Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Second Uncle Is Back
After Anne Sutton said this, she laughed to herself. "Maybe it’s because I’ve met your mother before, so I didn’t get a very good impression of her. But thinking about it, why would she treat you like that? She just dislikes Nathan Fawcett, not you."
’At the Linden family home, she had seen how Anna Linden treated Ethan, and it was quite good—not harsh like she used to be with Nathan.’
Nathan Fawcett heard her but didn’t respond.
Sometimes, when you go through something yourself, you don’t necessarily feel wronged.
But when someone else points it out, that’s when the feeling of grievance really hits you.
...
Nathan didn’t continue the conversation.
Anne said a few more things, but she was so tired that she fell asleep on his shoulder.
Ian knew she was exhausted, so he didn’t make a fuss.
He just spoke quietly to Nathan beside them.
When they arrived home, Nathan woke Anne, and she got out of the car.
The family of three walked through the door, only to see Stella Shields was there.
She hadn’t been here in a long time.
Ever since Nathan had left, she had never returned to this place.
Anne, walking beside Nathan, was also a bit surprised to see her. "Ms. Shields."
Stella glanced at Anne, then her gaze fell upon Nathan. "Ethan," she said.
Nathan said, "Are you done with all your work? I’m surprised you have time to come here!"
Stella said, "The way you spoke to Auntie today really upset her. You should give her a call and cheer her up!"
Nathan turned, glanced at Anne, and said, "Why don’t you take Ian upstairs first?"
He had something to say to Stella and didn’t want Anne to hear.
Anne gave him a look, then said to Ian, "Ian, let’s go upstairs and put our things away."
Ian heard this and nodded.
Only after they had left did Nathan sit down. He looked at Stella and asked, "Do you also think I shouldn’t get involved in the Fawcett family’s affairs?"
Stella knew he had grown up in the Fawcett family and that everything here belonged to him.
If he wanted to take charge, she naturally had no reason to stop him.
She said to Nathan, "It’s not that I think you shouldn’t get involved. It’s just... the Linden family has so much going on right now, and isn’t the Fawcett Group doing just fine? With Charles Prescott and his father managing the company, there’s no need for you to step in. I also don’t want to see you make Auntie angry over something like this."
Nathan said, "If she’s going to get angry just because I get involved in the Fawcett family’s affairs, then there’s nothing I can do. I’ll apologize to her after I’ve handled things here."
Stella looked at Nathan and said, "Nathan, are you back now... for her?"
As she spoke, she glanced upstairs. "I heard from my brother that you and she are together now. Is that true?"
Nathan said to Stella, "Yes."
Hearing this, Stella’s fingers clenched tightly. "What happened back then..."
’To think that just a few days ago, Nathan was denying it, and now he’s admitting it so freely!’
’Has he really forgiven everything Anne Sutton did so quickly?’
"It’s all in the past," Nathan said. "Ian needs a mother."
Stella asked, "Have you told her?"
"Not yet," Nathan denied.
He looked at Stella and said, "When you have time, go spend it with my mother. Try to talk some sense into her. No matter what she says, I am taking back everything that belongs to the Fawcett family. It’s been so long since the whole thing with her and my father, and my dad has been gone for so long."
Seeing that Nathan had made up his mind, Stella knew that anything more she said would only annoy him.
She said, "I understand. But whatever you do, you should still discuss it with Auntie. Don’t take a hard line with her, and don’t make her angry."
...
Nathan was silent.
Stella glanced upstairs and said, "You all haven’t eaten yet, have you? I’ll get going then."
Butler Walters asked, "Ms. Shields won’t be staying for dinner?"
"No, I’m on a diet," Stella said. "Since it’s still early, I’ll go back and check on my mom."
With that, she walked out the door, and the butler saw her off.
...
Anne and Ian had already gone upstairs and changed into comfortable clothes. Seeing that Stella had left, Anne came back down.
The housekeeper was preparing dinner.
Nathan was sitting on the sofa, his long legs crossed, his expression cool and distant.
’These past few years in Veridia, after his surgery, he had taken on Ethan Linden’s identity.’
’As Ethan, he had spent a few years by his mother’s side, enjoying a life of being doted on.’
’Aside from needing to constantly emulate Ethan in every way, his mother had been very good to him.’
’As a son, he had experienced the difference between being Ethan and being Nathan Fawcett.’
’But now, it seemed his return here was fated to cost him his mother’s love.’
’It was quite ironic, when he thought about it.’
Anne said, "Ms. Shields left so soon?"
Nathan glanced at her but said nothing.
Anne asked, "Did she come looking for you because of your mother? Is your mother unhappy that you’ve come back here?"
"..." Nathan glanced at the dinner the housekeeper had prepared and said, "Where’s Ian? Let’s eat first."
"Dad," Ian quickly responded, hearing Nathan call for him.
Anne smiled as she watched the little guy.
Ian ran over, and Nathan picked him up, placing him in a chair at the dining table.
The family of three sat down to eat together.
Before, when Nathan wasn’t around, it was always just Anne and Ian eating.
Now that he was here, the dinner table suddenly seemed much livelier.
Even though he didn’t say much as he sat there.
...
The butler, having seen Stella off, returned.
Nathan looked at him and said, "When Charles Prescott or his father gets back, tell them to come see me."
His expression was very serious as he spoke.
Anne looked at Nathan. "Why are you looking for them?"
"It’s just some business," Nathan said.
He picked up his bowl and continued eating seriously.
When Charles Prescott got back from work, he parked his car at the gate and saw the butler.
’Seeing Butler Walters, he knew Ethan Linden was back.’
He asked, "Mr. Linden is back?"
The butler nodded. "Yes! Our master said that when Mr. Prescott returned, he should go see him. He has something to discuss with you."
"He’s looking for me?" Charles Prescott recalled the last time he tried to kick Anne Sutton out, and how that ended...
He’d not only failed but had also been taught a lesson by Ethan Linden.
He said, "Alright, I’ll head over right away."
’Since Ethan Linden was back, it was the perfect opportunity to talk to him about the ownership of this house.’
’Now that Anne Sutton was with Ethan, he had the right to make them move out!’
Charles Prescott went home, had a drink of water, and came right back out.
Anne and Nathan were nearly finished with dinner.
Charles Prescott walked in, saw Nathan, and said, "Second Uncle, you’re back."
Nathan raised his eyes and looked at Charles. Since Charles hadn’t been kicked out of the company last time, he showed no signs of apprehension toward him now.
