Chapter 132: Chapter 132: He Came for Her

"You’re the one who said you weren’t interested in her! That’s the only reason I even thought about getting with her! If you had just said something sooner, I never would have pursued her! How could I dare to cross you? Right?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at him but said nothing.

Justin Shields said, "But... does your mother know about this? She hates everything to do with the Fawcett Family, won’t she be furious? Besides, there’s a Linden Group meeting in a couple of days. You have to go back for that, right?"

Nathan Fawcett checked the time and realized he really did have to go back in a couple of days.

He wasn’t just in charge of the Fawcett Group. As the Head of the Linden Family, he had his own responsibilities to attend to.

...

In the afternoon, before her shift ended, Anne Sutton went to change her clothes.

Just then, she overheard some people talking about her. "Did you hear? I heard Charles Prescott was about to get engaged to Mia Shaw, but Dr. Sutton ruined it."

"Uh, I don’t think it was that serious, was it?"

"Why not? I heard it’s true! Dr. Sutton has a thing for Charles Prescott. Weren’t they engaged before?"

"But she married Nathan Fawcett later!"

"Nathan Fawcett died, so now she’s going after Charles Prescott again! But she’s a widow now. Why would Charles Prescott still want her?"

"If she knew it would turn out like this, she should have just turned a blind eye back then! Why did she even break up with Charles Prescott? She really thought too highly of herself."

Anne Sutton opened the door, saw the two colleagues gossiping about her, and said, "What are you two talking about?"

Seeing Anne Sutton, the two women jumped. "Dr... Dr. Sutton, we didn’t know you were in here."

"And because you didn’t know I was here, that gives you the right to gossip about me?" Anne Sutton said, her face cold. "Do you think I’ve gotten too good-tempered?"

"No." She was their superior, after all. Scolded by her, the two women didn’t dare to say another word.

Anne Sutton said, "I’m docking both of your pays by two days."

"..." The two women’s faces darkened when they heard her words.

Coming out of the locker room, the two women were still upset. "On what grounds? We just said a few things about her and she docks our pay. Who does she think she is?"

"Forget it, forget it! We can’t afford to mess with her! Just try to be understanding. Her husband died. It can’t be easy for her."

"Hey, who’s that man?"

The two of them walked into the lobby and saw Nathan Fawcett standing there, with Ian by his side.

Seeing the handsome Nathan Fawcett, both women were stunned.

Although Nathan Fawcett had come to their hospital for treatment before, he looked completely different then compared to now.

The old Nathan Fawcett was just intimidating; you couldn’t see anything handsome about him at all.

But the man before them now was the type to make their eyes light up.

That’s why no one recognized him as the same person.

Anne Sutton came out from inside, her mood already soured by the two women. When she saw Nathan Fawcett, she froze for a moment too.

She had left last night, and Nathan Fawcett hadn’t looked for her. She’d thought he must have understood her meaning and gone to contact Chairman Grant.

’I can’t believe he actually came all the way here!’

The moment he saw her, Ian shouted, "Mommy!"

He was ecstatic, waving at Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton was speechless.

She wished she could cover her face and run away from them.

She turned around and left through a different door.

Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Why doesn’t Mommy want me anymore?"

Nathan Fawcett watched the woman slip out the back door and said, "Don’t worry. She’ll be back."

...

With that, he picked up Ian and walked out of the hospital.

The two women who had been standing to the side glanced at each other, dumbfounded. What was going on? That little boy just called Anne Sutton ’Mommy’?

And his father was that handsome?

Holy crap!

All this time, they had thought Anne Sutton was just an unwanted widow, desperately fawning over Charles Prescott. They never imagined she was with such a handsome man!

...

The moment Anne Sutton stepped out of the hospital’s back door, she was stopped.

Butler Walters stood to the side, looked at her, and smiled. "Madam."

Seeing Butler Walters, Anne Sutton said, "What are you doing here?"

"The Master asked me to wait for you here. He said he wants you to have dinner with him tonight."

Anne Sutton said, "I have plans, I can’t make it. And besides, can you please tell him to stop coming to find me? What Chairman Grant said that day was perfectly clear. He might not mind, but I do. I don’t want people talking about me like I’m some kind of homewrecker."

’As if it’s my fault he’s neglecting the Fawcett Group now!’

’What’s more, I don’t want to see Charles Prescott looking so smug.’

Butler Walters said, "You can tell the Master these things yourself, face to face."

Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "Just tell him for me! You know I can’t get through to him. You’re a reasonable person. You know that me being with him is bad for him!"

Listening to Anne Sutton’s words, Butler Walters frowned. "I know, Madam, that you want to leave the Master because you don’t want to drag him down. However, what you think is best for him might not actually be what’s best. He hasn’t had a woman by his side for all these years. You know that whenever he gets close to a woman, his body has an allergic reaction. It was a rare fortune to find you, someone he can be with without having a reaction. As a normal man, if he can’t even have the simple joys that any normal man should have, what’s the point of all his wealth?"

"Uh..." Anne Sutton looked at the butler, not expecting him to say all this to her.

Even she felt a bit awkward listening to it.

’Sir, could you please not talk about such things with such a serious tone?’

Butler Walters looked at Anne Sutton and said, "The Master is still waiting for you. Let’s go."

Just as he finished speaking, a couple of raindrops began to fall.

It looked like it was about to rain.

Anne Sutton was at a loss for words. She had no choice but to follow the butler to see Nathan Fawcett.

The door to Nathan Fawcett’s car was open.

He sat there, his cold eyes fixed on her, watching as Butler Walters brought her over, an unwilling look on her face.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "Go on, run. Why’d you stop?"

The way he looked like he was waiting to laugh at her made Anne Sutton feel a little embarrassed.

She denied it. "I wasn’t running! I just didn’t see you guys just now."

Ian said, "Oh, so that’s why. I thought Mommy didn’t want Ian anymore."

"..." Seeing that the little guy actually believed her, Anne Sutton felt a bit awkward.

’Could he please not be so easily fooled by me! Jeez!’

Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Get in the car."

Anne Sutton said, "I drove here. I can just go back on my own."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "Then you can just stand there. If you like standing in the rain, that’s fine with me."

’If I don’t keep an eye on her for one second, she runs off!’

’I’d like to see just how far she can run.’

Anne Sutton looked at his domineering expression, and then at the subordinates standing by, completely blocking her escape. She had no choice but to get into the car.

Only after she was seated in the car were the others dismissed.
