Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Treating Ian as Her Baby

"What’s not okay about it?" Nathan Fawcett asked, playing dumb.

Anne Sutton said, "Nothing about it is okay! Seriously, I’m begging you, don’t be like this!"

Nathan Fawcett stared at her. She was the only woman he’d ever been with, and the only one he felt comfortable with.

It was one thing when she wasn’t around, but the thought of having absolutely no connection to her from now on... Nathan Fawcett couldn’t do it.

’Not unless I decide to become a monk for the rest of my life!’

He looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "Weren’t you the one clinging to me when you were drunk before?"

"I mistook you for someone else! I thought you were Nathan. You can’t take things that happen when someone’s drunk seriously. Why do you keep bringing this up?!"

’It’s been so long!’

’And he’s still bringing it up.’

Nathan Fawcett said, "You can keep treating me as Nathan."

"..." Anne Sutton stared at the man as if he were some kind of pervert.

’He actually wants to be a substitute for his brother...’

’Who acts like that?’

’But he’s Ethan Linden!’

’It’s not like he’s short of women!’

Anne Sutton said, "Are you serious?"

Nathan Fawcett nodded. "Yes."

’Am I supposed to be joking with her?’

He still held a grudge against this woman for what had happened. He wasn’t willing to forgive her, and he certainly didn’t want to tell her the truth.

But she was his only woman.

Nathan Fawcett himself felt aggrieved. ’Out of all the women in the world, why does it have to be her?’

’Is that fair?’

Seeing him nod so seriously, Anne Sutton almost believed him.

However, the thought that he was Nathan Fawcett’s younger brother made her shake her head vigorously and refuse. "Don’t be like this!"

’He keeps tempting me like this, and it’s not like I’m a saint!’

’I’m having a hard enough time resisting as it is!’

Nathan Fawcett gazed at her, then suddenly leaned in close. Watching his face approach, Anne Sutton got scared and quickly shut her eyes.

She thought he was going to kiss her, but Nathan Fawcett stopped when he was very close, his face almost touching hers, and then let out a soft chuckle.

His laugh was tinged with mockery. "Hypocrite!"

’She’s clearly not rejecting me, yet she still has to put on an act!’

Anne Sutton’s eyes flew open. Seeing him, she realized he was teasing her and her face flushed with anger.

’This man...’

’Why is he being like this?’

’He’s so mean!’

Anne Sutton said, "What are you doing?"

Just as she finished speaking, Nathan Fawcett’s phone rang.

He took out his phone, glanced at it, and answered. The voice on the other end was Miles Prescott’s.

He glanced at her, then placed a finger on her lips, signaling her to be quiet.

Then he said, "Mr. Prescott."

Hearing it was one of the Prescotts, Anne Sutton immediately clamped her mouth shut.

"Alright! Tonight then. That works."

Nathan Fawcett hung up the phone. Anne Sutton asked, "Who was that?"

"Miles Prescott," Nathan Fawcett said. "He wants to go out for dinner, along with a few people from the company."

The news of Nathan Fawcett’s return could no longer be hidden, so Miles Prescott wasn’t trying to hide it either.

’That man always resorts to underhanded tricks!’

’He acts like such a good guy on the surface!’

Anne Sutton said, "Let me go with you."

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Anne Sutton said, "He’s not a good person! Don’t be fooled by how polite he is to you. He’s full of dirty tricks behind your back."

Of course, Nathan Fawcett knew all this.

He looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Do you think I’m as naive as you imagine?"

"But I’m worried!" Anne Sutton said. "You’ve never been here before, so you don’t know how things work. I’m going with you!"

"But why should I take you?" Nathan Fawcett looked at her curiously.

Anne Sutton: "Can’t I go?"

Her gaze was a little pleading. She really wanted to go, but she was afraid he wouldn’t take her, afraid of making him unhappy.

After hearing her out, Nathan Fawcett said, "You can. Give me a reason to say yes."

After speaking, he sat down next to her on the bed.

Anne Sutton: "..."

’This guy... why did he just sit on my bed?’

Being alone in the room together felt incredibly intimate.

Besides, they had a history of sleeping in the same bed.

Anne Sutton felt a little intimidated.

"I’ll go check on Ian!"

She started to get out of bed.

Nathan Fawcett watched her, then reached out and pulled her back. "Ian is napping. Don’t disturb him."

Anne Sutton stared at him. "I need to take a nap too!"

"Then sleep."

"...How am I supposed to sleep with you here?"

"Didn’t you sleep just fine at my place before?"

His words reminded Anne Sutton of yesterday...

’Why on earth did I run away from his house in the first place?’

She was back now, but it felt like she’d only treated the symptoms, not the root cause.

To her astonishment, Nathan Fawcett took off his jacket and lay down.

Anne Sutton said, "Ian is right next door. Aren’t you afraid he’ll see and tell Ms. Shields?"

Nathan Fawcett said calmly, "I have nothing to do with Stella Shields."

’I don’t need to explain to anyone who I’m with!’

"..." Anne Sutton watched him lie down on the bed, feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt toward Nathan.

’This was her Nathan’s room, after all. But now, she was with his younger brother...’

’It felt so wrong!’

Nathan Fawcett, however, fell asleep quickly.

But Anne Sutton didn’t feel the least bit sleepy.

Even though they hadn’t done anything, a "brother-in-law and sister-in-law" lying on the same bed... if word got out, it would look very bad.

She sat on the side, staring at Nathan Fawcett, wondering what he was really up to.

’He knows perfectly well I can’t resist that face of his!’

「...」

Anne Sutton really couldn’t sleep. Since Nathan Fawcett was already asleep anyway, she snuck out of the room.

But as soon as she stepped out, she saw the butler standing right at the door.

She felt a pang of guilt, and her heart skipped a beat, terrified that the butler knew Nathan Fawcett was inside. freewēbnoveℓ.com

’If the butler finds out, who knows what he’ll think of me!’

Anne Sutton said to the butler, "Hello."

The butler was very polite. "Good day, Madam."

Anne Sutton said, "Is Ian asleep? I’m going to check on him."

After speaking, she closed the door behind her and hurried toward Ian’s room.

’The butler couldn’t possibly know about me and Ethan Linden, could he?’

’No way!’

Clinging to a sliver of hope, Anne Sutton entered Ian’s room.

This was the room once reserved for her and Nathan Fawcett’s baby. It was filled with children’s things, and now Ian was in here.

Among the items were toys that Nathan had left for the baby before he passed away.

Back then, Nathan Fawcett had figured he wouldn’t have the chance later, so he had prepared gifts for the first several years of the baby’s life.

Ian was now three, so there were plenty of things for him to play with.

He was having a great time!

Anne Sutton stood at the door. Over the years, she had often found herself staring blankly at everything in here. She never expected that Ian would come and actually like the things here.

When Ian saw Anne Sutton, he said, "Auntie!"

Anne Sutton froze for a moment, realizing that she had unconsciously started to think of Ian as her own child.

She walked over to Ian’s side and asked, "Do you like all these things?"

"I do," Ian said. Then he asked, "Auntie, do you have a little kid in your family too?"

His question made Anne Sutton’s heart ache.

She nodded. "Auntie used to have a baby, but he passed away before he was even born."
