Chapter 103: Chapter 103: What If I Insist?

Nathan Fawcett watched Miles Prescott’s hypocritical act. The man always managed to put on a friendly face with everyone.

Before Nathan Fawcett could say a word, Anne Sutton cut in. "Even if he didn’t come back then, he’s still Chairman Fawcett’s son. His own flesh and blood! Isn’t that closer than an adopted son like you?"

Anne Sutton wasn’t holding back with them at all anymore, saying whatever came to mind.

Miles Prescott’s expression darkened. He looked at Anne Sutton. With Ethan Linden living here now, if Anne was here too, there was no telling what she might say in front of him.

Miles Prescott had never found her so infuriating.

He began, "Anne, I still haven’t settled the score with you for aborting Nathan’s child just to be with Charles. Now that our Charles is unwilling to marry you, you fly into a rage out of humiliation and deliberately say these things. That’s not very appropriate, is it? Thankfully, Ethan is a reasonable man and won’t be swayed by your attempts to stir up trouble. We’re all family here. I’m naturally very happy he’s back. Charles and I are only helping to manage the Fawcett Family temporarily. If Ethan wants it all, we won’t fight him for it."

With just a few words, he instantly painted Anne Sutton as the villain.

And made himself out to be the good guy.

"Don’t talk such nonsense!" Anne Sutton retorted. "What’s this about me flying into a rage because Charles Prescott won’t marry me? Even if your son begged me to marry him, I wouldn’t do it. Got it?"

Miles Prescott countered, "Then what about his engagement to Mia Shaw? Weren’t you the one who went and ruined it?"

"Are you still dreaming?" Anne Sutton said. "It was clearly your own son who was indiscreet. He has an illegitimate child, yet he still tried to trick Mia Shaw into marrying him. And you’re blaming me for that? Wasn’t Sylvia Warren the one who ruined their engagement?"

Seeing he couldn’t win the argument, Miles Prescott said, "Fine! You’re right about everything. Say whatever you want! For Nathan’s sake, and as your elder, I won’t bicker with you. But Ethan isn’t the type of person you think he is—he won’t be fooled by a few of your words!"

Nathan Fawcett, who had been listening from the side, spoke up. "Since Mr. Prescott has said so, I’ll take your word for it. I’ll have someone contact you later to handle company matters."

Miles Prescott froze. He glanced at Nathan Fawcett, but he couldn’t take back what he’d said. He could only force a smile. "Then I’ll be waiting! Welcome back, Ethan. I have some other business to attend to, so I won’t disturb you any longer."

With that, Miles Prescott walked out.

Anne Sutton remained seated, watching his retreating figure. Her gaze then shifted to Nathan Fawcett. After a brief glance, she lowered her head and continued eating.

...

After dinner, Anne Sutton went upstairs. She had nothing else to do, so she was thinking about taking a nap.

Suddenly, Nathan Fawcett walked in.

Seeing him suddenly enter her room, Anne Sutton asked, "What are you doing here?"

Nathan Fawcett replied, "I came to see my older brother’s room."

He was playing the part of Ethan Linden very convincingly now.

At times, he almost forgot he was Nathan Fawcett, fully immersing himself in the role of Ethan Linden.

"There’s nothing to see," Anne Sutton said.

Nathan Fawcett glanced around and saw that nothing much had changed. Aside from the new things she’d added by living here, all of Nathan Fawcett’s original belongings were still in place.

Nathan Fawcett was a little surprised. "You’ve been living here all these years?"

"I have," Anne Sutton said.

"Why didn’t you throw all his things away?" Nathan Fawcett asked.

Hearing his question, Anne Sutton gave the man a surprised look. "Why would I throw them away?"

"He’s gone now. Don’t you think it’s bad luck to keep all his things?"

"He is not bad luck!" Anne Sutton clenched her fists. "Don’t say such things!"

Nathan Fawcett watched her defend his memory so fiercely. He’d originally thought that after getting together with Charles Prescott, she had forgotten all about him. Now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.

The fact that she hadn’t rushed to erase every trace of him brought Nathan Fawcett a small measure of comfort.

He stared at Anne Sutton, his gaze sharp as a needle, pinning her in place. Uncomfortable under his scrutiny, Anne quickly stood up. "How are your and Ian’s rooms coming along? Let me go check. The housekeeper might not have arranged things perfectly."

After speaking, she tried to flee the room like a deserter.

But Nathan Fawcett didn’t give her the chance.

Just as she was about to leave the room, he grabbed her by the arm. freeweɓnøvel.com

Anne Sutton looked at the man, startled by his action. ’It’s over. The very thing I was most afraid of is happening again! Why is this man so persistent? Yesterday, I thought that once I got back to Westhaven, I’d finally be able to get rid of him. But I never expected he’d not only follow me, but actually move in here! On one hand, with him back, Charles and Miles Prescott have someone to keep them in check, and I won’t have to worry about a repeat of what happened with Charles today. But... having him live here feels so dangerous!’

She looked at Nathan Fawcett and forced a smile. "Ethan, since you’ve moved in, I think there are a few things we should get straight up front."

Nathan Fawcett shut the door and leaned against it.

Standing there, he was like an immovable statue, completely blocking her escape route.

"Go on."

Anne Sutton mustered her courage. "You’re Nathan’s younger brother, and I’m his wife. Even though he’s been gone for a few years, you should still call me ’sister-in-law.’ Maybe you’re used to a more... chaotic love life and don’t care about these things. But given our relationship to each other, it’s necessary that we maintain a proper distance. Don’t you agree?"

Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett’s lips curved into a smirk. "Is that so?"

Anne Sutton nodded. "Yes, exactly! So from now on, don’t just come into my room whenever you please, don’t casually grab my hand, and... definitely don’t get into my bed! It’s not right! If anyone saw, who knows what they’d think!"

"And what if I insist on coming into your room, holding your hand, and getting into your bed?"

He advanced on her, one step at a time, as he spoke.

As he drew closer, a frightened Anne Sutton scrambled backward.

Finding her reaction amusing, Nathan Fawcett continued to press forward...

Soon, he had her backed up against the bed.

Anne Sutton’s foot caught on the bed frame, and she tumbled onto the mattress.

Terrified, she tried to sit up, but Nathan Fawcett gave her no chance. He leaned down, bracing his hands on either side of her, and stared down at her with a suggestive gaze. "My brother’s been gone for so long. Sister-in-law must be very lonely all by herself. It’s my duty to take care of you in his place. You don’t have to be so formal with me."

"...Not like this!"

’This is absurd! Absolutely absurd!’

"This really isn’t right," Anne Sutton said.

’I can’t tell if he’s serious or not,’ she thought. ’A normal person would have taken the hint by now! But I never expected this man could be so shameless! He really has no respect for Nathan Fawcett at all!’
