Chapter 218: Chapter 218

Mason POV

“Get up,” I shout, kicking a sleeping Carlos on the ass. “We need to move.”

“Fuck off,” Carlos grunts. “I’m battling a hangover.”

“Nobody told you to drink so much,” I smirk, looking at the two fools who passed out on the living room floor. Empty beer cans are scattered everywhere, and the room smells stale and rotten. If Elara sees her cottage now, she will have a fit. “And I don’t care. They’re on the move, it’s time.”

“Urgh, shit,” Tom croaks, grabbing his head as he sits up. “I’m going to be sick.”

“Be sick on the back of the truck,” I snap. “I’m leaving in five minutes. If you want your money, you’d better be there.”

I walk out without another word, knowing perfectly well their greed will urge them to join. I get into my truck, start the engine, and the doors quickly open.

“That wasn’t five minutes,” Tom grunts from the backseat.

“I wasn’t leaving yet,” I reply dryly, opening the window for fresh air. “You two better stay downwind, you fucking stink. They’ll smell you a mile away.”

“So, what if they smell us?” Carlos snaps. “They won’t care about two drunk bums.”

I only grunt in response. He has a point, but that does not change the fact that I am trapped with them in a truck.

I clench the steering wheel as we speed towards the facility. I lost a lot of time returning home to fetch these two assholes. If I could have done it alone, I would have, but I am outnumbered.

“Now what?” Tom asks as I park at the back of the facility.

“We move closer on foot,” I reply. “We wait for the she wolf, grab her and collect the bounty.”

We run closer and hit the ground when an explosion shakes the earth.

“What the fuck?” Carlos mutters, looking up and sees the smoke.

“Are they bombing the place?” Tom asks when another explosion goes off.

“They’re not here for cake and tea, boys,” I grin, stand up and run towards the facility.

“Are you insane?” Carlos asks as they follow me. “We could get killed.”

“Use your brain, numbnuts,” I reply, irritated. “They’re not on a suicide mission. The explosions are from the inside.”

I run to the fence and stare at the people pouring through the doors to safety. I squint my eyes, but I do not see Elara or my brothers.

Are they still inside or have they already fled?

“Fuck!” I snap when it hits me. They have a witch, and I bet they used a transmogrifying potion. There is no way in hell I can tell who is who.

Hopeless, I stare at the scene. The burning building and the terrified people. Finding Elara will be damn near impossible. Something catches my eye, and I squint my eyes to see better. That is Braden!

“I know how to find her,” I say excitedly.

Axel POV

I am on pins and needles by the time Kane and Mindy run towards us. The wait nearly killed me.

“Elara?” That is all I ask when Kane makes eye contact with me.

“Safe in the shelter,” he replies.

“Okay,” I nod, looking impatiently at the burning facility. It is going to feel like an eternity before we can rescue them from the shelter. I hated the plan from the very beginning, but it was the only way to ensure everyone got out alive.

“Did Braden make it out?” Maxim asks, holding Mindy tightly in his embrace.

“Not yet,” Kane shakes his head. “We’ll know as soon as he throws a bomb on the outside.”

“You mean like that?” Monroe asks, pointing to the building.

“Yeah,” Kane nods.

“I’m going closer,” I say adamantly. “Nobody will pay attention to us in this chaos, anyway.”

Everyone follows me as I run closer to the facility. I know I will not see Elara, but I might be less restless if I am closer to her. Hell, I might even connect with her via mind link.

“Oh, dear Goddess!” Mindy exclaims, pointing towards a car with big eyes. “Braden is in trouble.”

Kane and I shift immediately and run as fast as we can to Braden. My heart is in my throat as I watch him struggle with his pants. Kane lunges forward, pushing Braden onto his back, and I roll over his leg, smothering the flames. The smell of my scorched fur fills my nostrils, but I do not care.

“Fuck, that was close,” Braden chuckles nervously as he dusts himself off, looking at us. “Thanks.”

To my surprise, I pick up an unwelcome scent among the flames and burning flesh.

“Mason’s here,” I mind-link Kane.

“What the fuck?” Kane growls, sniffing the air.

“What’s wrong?” Braden asks, frowning when he notices our behaviour.

I growl a low warning as I scour the area.

“Over there by the fence,” Kane mind-links, stepping in front of Braden.

“Oh, shit,” Braden mumbles when he looks in the direction at which we are staring. “Is that Mason?”

I reply with a nod, which quickly turns into a growl when Mason sees us and smirks. freewёbnoνel.com

“Today is the day I kill that fucker,” Kane growls and sprints towards Mason.

“I’ll tell Mason and Monroe to meet up with you,” Braden says quickly, and I follow Kane.

Mason has already proven his strength, but this time, we will not underestimate him.
