Chapter 201: Chapter 201
Elara POV
Longingly, I look at the potions. We so desperately need them, but we cannot agree to terms which we cannot fulfil. Witches already have such a low opinion about wolves. If we cannot complete our part of the deal, they will curse us and our kind till the end of time.
“I honestly don’t know,” I say, looking her in the eyes. “I would happily bring you all the test subjects you want, but I have no fucking clue how we’re going to catch one and bring it to you. We only figured out how to kill them. We don’t know their weaknesses. We’ve only seen their strengths. And I must warn you, they can mind link with the Council. If we bring you one while the war’s still going, you’ll be in danger. That thing might tell the Council where to find you.”
“Then I guess you don’t want this,” Isolde grins sourly, lowering the bottles.
“I don’t get you,” I frown, folding my arms and glaring at her. “You know what we’re up against. Hell, you probably even know more than we do, since you have ears and eyes in the facility. You know what four of those things did at Stillwood, and still, you refuse to help us. I won’t make promises I can’t keep, Isolde. If you don’t want to discuss a reasonable payment, fine, but don’t come to us for help when the Council release those monstrosities to hunt every supernatural being the Goddess created.”
Isolde’s lips pull into a thin line as she stares at me, weighing her options.
“Fine,” she huffs, pressing the bottles against my chest, and I gratefully take them from her. “Do what you can. I still want one alive, but if you fail, bring me its blood.”
“Easy,” Kane says sarcastically. “We’ll only do a blood extraction while it burns.”
“Hold on,” Axel steps forward. “You want their blood to create potions, don’t you?” freēwebnovel.com
“No,” she exhales deeply. “I’m working on an antidote. We need a solution if one of those things bites anyone.”
“Yeah, right,” Kane chuckles. “They’re not going to bite; they’re going to devour. You’ll spend your time better if you work on an anti-death potion.”
“I’m not a moron,” Isolde says, glaring at my mates. “But I think I’m on the verge of something. We’ve been unsuccessful in creating a cure for vampire and wolf bites. The answer must be in the blood of a hybrid. But the hybrids went into hiding, and I haven’t found one who’s willing to participate. Except, if you’re willing to help, Elara?”
“No way,” Braden jumps forward, and we look at him in surprise. “I know what witches can do with blood. Sure, you’ll work on an antidote, but you can also place a spell on her, and anyone who shares her DNA.”
“Like Stella and Selena?” I whisper, shocked to my core.
“Exactly,” Braden answers firmly.
“It’s true,” Isolde nods, lifting her chin. “That’s why I didn’t ask her blood as payment. I’m not evil, Braden. I know what could happen, so I’m asking for a test subject’s blood.”
“But they were once related to other people,” I say, still trying to recover from hearing the information. “Wouldn’t it affect their loved ones?”
“I have no intention of placing a spell on anyone, Elara,” Isolde replies. “Just like you, I’m trying to help and contribute to this war. I’m asking for trust, the same way you’re asking mine.”
I look at her intensely. She has a point. Besides, she has been nothing but good to me, and Gabriela trusts her.
“Okay,” I agree. “We’ll bring you the blood of a test subject, or a hybrid. Whichever we can find.”
“Thank you,” Isolde smiles. “I wish you well.”
“One more thing,” Kane asks, and I look curiously at him. “Do you have a love potion?”
“What for?” I gape at him. I am his mate, and I love him. He does not need such a thing.
“There’s no such thing, Alpha,” Isolde giggles. “You can’t force someone to love you. You can merely trick them into feeling affectionate towards you for small periods of time. But I refuse to make that potion.”
“Why? Can it kill someone?” Axel asks, curiously.
“No,” she exhales deeply. “Dry mouth, headaches and sometimes diarrhoea are the only side effects. It’s the emotional toll on the recipient that’s against my morals. I’m not a fan of the confusion, and sometimes shame and guilt that the person must work through.”
I lower my gaze and stare at my feet. I vividly remember those feelings and the anguish of cheating on my mates. It is not pleasant.
“Tell me exactly how it works,” Kane growls, demanding, placing his arm around my shoulders.
“It’s a few drops in a drink or food,” Isolde replies softly, looking warily at Kane. “Once the recipient makes eye contact with the other person, it kicks in.”
“That motherfucker,” Axel grunts.
“Okay, this is weird,” Isolde says, taking a step back and lifting her hands defensively. “Whatever’s going on, I don’t want any part of it, and like I said. I refuse to make that potion. I don’t care what you’re offering.”
“We don’t want the potion,” Axel grunts. “We only wanted to know if you sold it to anyone.” freёwebnovel.com
“Well, that’s a definite no,” Isolde says firmly.
“Thank you for all your help,” I say, smiling. “And I’ll keep the end of my deal, I promise.”
“May I ask one more favour?” Isolde asks, and I nod. “If you hear that the subjects are on their way here, or sniffing out witches, would you warn me?”
“We would’ve even if you didn’t ask,” I smile, turn around and leave.
“Rhiannon should be happy Mason killed her,” Kane mumbles. “Because I would’ve killed her much, much slower.”
“Agreed,” Axel replies. “The same way Mason will die.”
