Chapter 1: Chapter 1: The First Day at Magic Academy
The sun broke through the clouds and shone on the tall spires of Lancelot Royal Magic Academy.
Today was the day all the new students were most excited for, and also the most important one... the "Self-Created Magic" ceremony.
"Did you hear?? Today we can create our very first magic right in front of the Awakening Stone!!"
"I’ve meditated for a whole month. I’m definitely going to create a really strong ’Fireball’ today!!"
"Oh my god!! You can actually imagine the shape of fire?? You must be a genius!!"
"What about you??"
"My imagination is a bit limited. I can only barely picture ’a gentle breeze,’ which should be enough to blow some fallen leaves."
"That’s still amazing. That counts as a real 1st-Level spell!!"
Listening to the excited whispers around him, Arthur Voss rubbed his temples helplessly.
He let out a long sigh in his heart.
The people of this world really are poor in imagination, it almost breaks his heart.
One month ago, after a lab accident, he had been sent to a continent called Elderia.
Back on Earth, he was a hardcore fan of fantasy movies and video games.
When he learned that the magic system here allowed people to "create their own spells," he was so excited he nearly jumped out of his skin.
But he quickly found a harsh truth.
The mages here didn’t have any fantasy concepts at all.
Blowing a leaf, making a tiny spark—they thought that was already the peak of imagination.
If he suddenly pulled out "Melf’s Acid Arrow" or "Bigby’s Grasping Hand," wouldn’t they be terrified to death?
"Arthur, you can definitely do it!!"
A clear, sweet voice cut through Arthur’s inner complaints.
Arthur turned and saw a round, cute apple face.
Lilian August, the little princess of the Kingdom of Oran. She was shorter than 5 feet.
She had golden hair and blue eyes, looking just like a delicate, fragile doll.
"Even though your Mana Affinity and Mental Power are... uh, well, the lowest F-rank."
Lilian blinked her big green eyes and waved her tiny fists hard.
"But I believe, Arthur, you can definitely create a super powerful spell!!"
Arthur smiled lazily, looking very relaxed.
"Don’t worry, my dream is just to be a mage who hides in the back row and shoots people with ambush attacks."
Lilian let out a squeak of laughter, clearly thinking he was joking.
"Quiet."
A deep, old voice filled with authority suddenly rang out across the huge white marble plaza.
Headmaster Alberto Klein stood on the raised platform, his full head of white hair dancing in the wind.
As an absolute powerhouse at the Grand Archmagus level, just standing there made the magic around him resonate with wild energy.
"Creating magic is a dance between the soul and mana."
Alberto looked down at the thousands of new students below, his eyes full of hope.
"Children, take a step forward and put your hands on the Awakening Stone."
"Show this world the limit of your imagination!!"
"First up, Jack!!"
A boy with freckles ran nervously up to the platform.
He placed his hand on the man-sized blue Awakening Stone, closed his eyes, and shouted with sweat pouring down his forehead.
"Converge!! Light that illuminates the darkness!! Light Spell!!"
A faint white light, probably only the size of a ping-pong ball, appeared unsteadily at his fingertips.
"1st-Level spell, successful!!" The Archmagus announced loudly.
Instantly, the crowd below erupted into thunderous applause and gasps of amazement.
"This is incredible!! He actually created light out of thin air!!"
"Jack is a magical genius not seen in a hundred years!!"
Arthur watched that tiny white light, which wasn’t even as bright as a 10-watt bulb, and his mouth twitched slightly.
This is what you call a genius?
Over the next half hour, a series of miserable "spells" played out one after another.
"Water Splash," "Dirt Clumps," "Spark Spell"...
Every time a terribly lazy 1st-Level spell appeared, the crowd below would erupt into wild cheering.
Arthur stood in the crowd, bored, and let out a long yawn.
In his mind, an entire complete and huge D&D magic system lay waiting quietly.
From 1st-Level to 9th-Level, all the way to forbidden spells capable of destroying heaven and earth, he had it all.
"Next up, Arthur Voss!!"
The Archmagus’s voice fell, and the once-noisy plaza instantly plunged into an eerie silence.
Then, scathing laughter and whispering like waves spread out.
"That’s him! The famous Double-F Failure!"
"F-Rank Mana Affinity, F-Rank Mental Power. I wonder how he even got into Royal Academy."
"Bet he can’t even sense his own mana, let alone create a spell."
"Hahaha, everyone, get ready for a show!!"
Hearing these insults, Lilian puffed up her cheeks in anger and rushed forward to argue with them.
But Arthur reached out, pressed down on her small head, and gently stroked it.
"It’s fine."
He stepped forward, walked out of the crowd, and calmly headed toward the raised platform.
Under the gaze of thousands of eyes filled with disdain and eagerness for trouble, Arthur’s walk remained calm and unhurried.
Headmaster Alberto on the platform also frowned slightly, staring at this school-wide known "waste."
Arthur stopped in front of the Awakening Stone, slowly extended his right hand, and pressed it against the cold stone surface.
Double-F talent?
In the rules of D&D, as long as the caster builds the spell structure perfectly, the mana will obediently submit.
He gently closed his eyes.
The poor imagination of this world had tested his patience for a whole month.
Since they thought a tiny spark was a miracle...
Then he’d give these country bumpkins a little taste of Earth-shaking power.
Deep in Arthur’s mind, a particularly complex, gorgeous, and suffocatingly terrifying model suddenly lit up.
It was a 9th-Level spell at the very top of the D&D system, representing absolute destruction.
Arthur opened his eyes, and a cold smile curved the corners of his lips.
"Meteor Blast."
