Chapter 39: Days in the Grim Palace

I kept fainting in between. When I got back to my senses entirely I felt a strong pain in my stomach.

"Tsk..." I placed a hand on the wound and looked down. All sewed up... No wait, what? While there were stitches and bandages that I most certainly put on myself, the hole in my stomach was much smaller than I expected.

My gaze turned to the left, on the bed, sleeping next to me was Weiss. Her beautiful hair was splayed on the bed and she breathed peacefully. The top of the Grim Palace was... opened up.

"What happened?" I muttered to myself. Through many many problems, I had trained my instincts sharp enough to stitch myself back together even if I was going in and out of consciousness. Call it a hunger to live or whatever.

But this healing was more than I expected.

It was late afternoon.

The pain was much lower than I thought.

This was my room, not Miss Witch’s. Since there was no one in the Grim Palace, she had given even her butler one of the most lavish rooms in this place. Of course, the only real ’lavish’ room was the Witch Queen’s herself. The rest were like suites in a hotel, not like suites in the ’Grim Palace.’

The first order of business was clear. I pulled open the side drawer next to my bed and grabbed my weed and rolling paper.

After slowly stumbling through rolling a joint. I lit it up with the matches in the same drawer and took a few deep puffs.

The pain in my entire body started to ease up. Thank fuck.

"Should I make lunch?"

I was about to shuffle off the bed, when I noticed. Between Weiss, below her hands and above her knees, was a book. A cardboard piece stuck on its center.

"Hey."

I quickly yanked it off from close to her and tossed it away. The Grimoire fell to the ground. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

I got off the bed and walked toward it.

"Y-you good?" I asked, tapping it with my feet.

[Zzzzzz]

It flapped open and said on one page before turning to its back cover.

Hah...

My days.

Grim Grim days.

I took a walk around the entire Palace. The golems had worked to pile up the dead bodies of the CEF soldiers outside the palace. The Palace walls were broken slightly, and the insides were completely wrecked thanks to Weiss pulling her really cool magic.

What the hell was that.

I thought she would be weak and unfamiliar with fighting, yet her every move was insane. It sent a chill down my spine just thinking about it again.

What a powerful witch. My gaze went to the sky, the clouds up top and the soft sun kissing the air.

Wow.

Jake and John were asleep near the door, the outer door. On the inner door slept Treska.

They were probably shocked from the security breach and were taking care now.

I took a proper walk around the palace. It shouldn’t have been possible. Really, how did I heal so much in a single night? Did the Grimoire do something?

And as I walked the entire circle...

"It’s gone. Did they break it by any chance?" The Obscurer wasn’t around. My gaze went to the forest this time. "Hah... whatever."

The Forbidden Fairy Forest. Penetrable by the Republic’s treasure-The Obscurer.

Who would have thought.

I went back into the Palace after that. Little Delka was asleep too, in the living room. He had many wounds, a few more than Treska even.

There was something different about him. A feral sense of something, if you will.

I patted the boy’s head and walked over to the kitchen. Everyone worked really hard today, so they all deserved a good rest and a hearty meal.

My stomach hurt now and then, so I kept my joint in hand and went on with making lunch. Lamb Stew, Chicken Curry, thin breads, a bit of rice too, some veggies and a salad to go with it all. It was a grand feast by all means.

As some time went by, a voice reached my ears.

"S-sir!" Treska came into the Kitchen, running. "Are you okay!?"

"Treska. Go take a bath, lunch’s almost ready."

"S-sir...! Sir Phantom!!!"

Tears rolled down his eyes as he ran over and jumped on me. Treska hugged me with all his might and I fell to the ground.

"OUCH!" I yelled, but the crying Treska just kept going on.

"Uwaa! W-we were so worried! Some of those fuckers ran away, I would have bitten into their necks if I knew you were hurt! Oh thank god!"

The noise woke up another kid. Delka came to the door, wiping his eyes at first, and then breaking into tears as well.

"Aaah..."

"Can you guys stop crying you’re ruining my trip."

"H-how did those! Those motherfuckers! Gahhh!"

"Get off."

Emotional Treska gulped, got off me, and then started getting angry again. I took his hand to stand up.

Right then, through the door, two more came running. John and Jake, both of them came rushing straight for me just like Treska a moment ago.

"No no no no! I’ll dieee!!!"

I shrunk and crouched on the ground as the two living armors jumped right over me and fell to the Kitchen floor.

"WOOO!"

SHIT!

"....!"

"..."

"...."

"....."

"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Don’t worry," I waved my hands, "I am all good, see? Actually, you guys might have reopened my wound. Ouch..."

"...."

"....."

It felt like they were saying something much different, but no one could get that. I nodded at their words. Couldn’t the beastkin kids be like this as well? These armors made no sound!

Suddenly, Delka stopped crying. A hand was placed over his head.

Weiss came at the door, looking straight at me.

I smiled at her.

She stared in my eyes... then at my lips. For a second too long, at my lips.

"What’s for lunch, butler?" she asked.

Hah... This one was really good.

"A whole feast, Miss Witch."
