Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Is This Hell?

The Third Person’s POV

The shot rang out among the quiet people on the field. Willow had run from the safe room, needing to see if her sisters were okay. If Jax was okay. She ran and ran, until she reached the battle which was dying down everywhere, since Galaxy had ordered everyone to stop fighting and the enemy to surrender. freёwebnovel.com

A woman in the safe room told Willow and every young pub down there what was happening. She was in constant contact with the warriors out there, and when she told them how Galaxy had made the fight almost end, Willow had dashed out of there.

When she saw her sisters in wolf form, she felt an immense sense of pride. They were both magnificent, but Galaxy’s aura wasn’t anything she had felt before. The aura of the two Queens combined. Wow! The girl also discovered she can read the minds of the wolves in front of her, something she never could before. She was wondering how that was happening when a new thought reached her mind. Galaxy was talking, taunting, the evil witch in front of them, when the thoughts of someone seeking a life smashed her senses.

’Just a little more. Just a little more. Right there, little Queen. You won’t know what hit you. Just a little more.’ The voice was distinctively male, cold and calculated. Before she knew what she was doing, Willow was running towards the crowd. She jumps as the gun goes off and feels the hit of the bullet in her small body.

Everything turns black, then sounds and voices reach her ear. She recognizes both her sisters, then someone she doesn’t know, and then Jax. Her familiar. Her friend and her protector. Oh, he would think this was all his fault, but it wasn’t. She made the choice to jump in front of Abby. She made that choice to sacrifice herself for her Queen and sister.

"Why did you jump in front of me?" Abby asks when the eyes of the little girl in her arms slowly open, not focusing on anything specific as she answers.

"You are the only witch and werewolf Queen. We can’t lose you. You are too important. And you are family, and we protect our family." She closes her eyes once again, feeling tired of the effort of speaking.

When she opens them again, she’s in unfamiliar surroundings.

"Ah, there you are, Willow. I’ve been waiting for you." A familiar female voice calls out. As Willow turns around, she sees her mother standing a few feet away, a big smile on her lips, her eyes sparkling with tears of joy and sadness, arms open for a hug. She runs to her mother, getting smothered in her embrace once again. As the warmth of her mother surrounds her, she lets her tears flow freely. freёwebnovel.com

"Why did you leave me, mom?" Willow asks in a thick voice.

"I’m sorry, baby girl, but I had to. My time was up and nothing was going to change that. But I’m here now, however briefly." Mallory answers. Willow looks at her mother in confusion, and then it hits her. If her mother is here, that means she must be... Dead.

"Am I not staying with you, mom?" She asks, insecurity eating at her heart. She doesn’t want to be dead, but she also doesn’t want to leave her mom again.

"No, sweetheart. Your time is yet to come, and even though you are here right now, this is not death. We are in a limbo state, a place where spirits can visit those who are just there temporarily." Mallory answers with a small smile. She can’t believe how grown up her little girl has become. How grown up they all are now. And despite the current war between her children, she still holds a lot of love for Sylla. She is not evil in her heart, but her ambitions and misguidance have blinded her to what her life could have been had she stayed on the narrow path of light with her twin.

Mallory has been watching over them all, been there in every sorrow and joy. Cried tears of happiness for their achievements and sadness for their failures.

The mother/daughter pair sit down, looking at each other. Willow remembers the day her mother was brutally murdered, and she remembers Ellie telling her to always keep her eyes on the price. And in this case, not let hatred of the murderer make her blind to all the things their mother had taught them.

"I have missed you so much, mommy." Willow says in a small voice. The tears spilling down her cheeks again.

"But I never forgot what you taught us! Forgiving, love, and laughter. The three cornerstones to staying on the path of light." She continues. Mallory smiles, pride shining in her eyes.

"I know, baby! I have kept an eye on all of you ever since I had to leave you. I have seen it all." She smiles, but her expression turns serious.

"Willow, I need to talk to you and this is urgent, as we have little time. Your father was not a forest guardian, as I have told you. I am sorry for lying to you all this time, but it was important for me to keep you safe." Mallory says with an eye cast to her youngest daughter. Willow furrows her eyebrows.

"Then who is my father?" She asks, wondering if her mother is intending to tell her or keep her in the dark still. And why was she telling her this now? She could have come to her in her dreams, like she had done numerous times before and told her, or she could have not lied to her from the start.

"Well. your father and I met each other on a day. I was out walking in the forest. I felt sorry for myself, not for the first time, and needed a break from the twins’ shenanigans at home. They were being looked after by Winter, who was like a maternal figure to me. Guiding me in motherhood, as I never experienced it properly with Abigail, because the deal was for me to have the baby, but to give her up to be brought up in her pack. Her wolf, though dormant, had an imposing presence on her already. Now I know why." Mallory reminisce before continuing.
