Chapter 294: Chapter 294 Aftermath
Kiara
I cross my arms, staring at the dark Goddess with pity and spite. I have had it with their entitled behavior and thinking only they matter! They can only exist when we do, and Keres is no different. She exists because of the shadows that dwell in us all, and I am not going to excuse what I did! It was necessary for the continued peace and thriving amongst my people, both of them, and everyone else in our weird and chaotic supernatural world.
"I did what was necessary. Do you have a problem with that?" I ask her in a deadly calm voice. The aura I let loose right now even has Havoc whining. I put my hand in his fur. I. Am. Done! She can scream and throw a tantrum as much as she’d like, but this is going to stop now.
"You don’t even know what you have done." Keres says, her voice hoarse from all the energy she used to get us moved to her realm. "You pushed the balance. You threw it off. You have interfered in matters that..." I hold up my hand.
"I have done nothing of the sort." I tell her. "We killed an enemy. Well, two actually, but who’s counting. And we made sure to protect our people. We did nothing wrong. You are mad because one of them was your daughter." Keres stares at me with venom in her eyes.
"You killed my Narine out of pure spite to me." She states and I have to laugh. I grab onto Havoc for support, laughing so hard.
"Goddess no. I killed her because she was a right bitch. I couldn’t care less whose daughter she was." I say, and Keres screams in fury.
"Well actually." Willow interrupts Keres’ scream. "We all had a part to play in the deaths of Narine and Magoth. And I must say, I am very proud of the young people, they were very creative in their way of killing. It’s noted." She gives me, Amber and Havoc a giant megawatt smile. Her mate, who has shifted back to his human form now, chuckles as he wraps his arm around her and brings her into his side. He is looking at Keres with his cool gaze, his demeanor ever the King of the Underworld.
"I would suggest you stop being a petulant child, Keres. You are still our Dark Goddess, and we need you to keep the balance strong, but you can be replaced. You know this." He says in a calm manner, and I have to hold my hand before my mouth to keep my laughter in. The look on Keres’ face is comical to say the least.
"First you kill my daughter and you come here and threaten me in my own home, Jax?" She asks with apparent anger. Jax just shakes his head.
"As far as I know, and I may be wrong, although I really don’t think I am, you were the one to drag us here against our will."
"Again..." I mumble, and Jax nods to me.
"For some of us we do not have time to indulge in your games, Keres. We have our own duties to our people to see to, so why don’t you just say what you want to say, and get it over with?"
Havoc growls suddenly, and I realize he is not looking at the Goddess. He is looking behind her, and that’s when I notice a cage. That’s weird. Was that cage here the last time I was here? I think back, but things are a little blurry. So much happened. I realize it was. The cage was here. Why would she have a cage here in her home? Something or someone moves in it. Thin long fingers grab the bars of the cage, strikingly blue eyes looking out at us.
’I told my aunt.’ Maze mindlinks me. I put my hand in Havoc’s fur to say I heard him. I guess by ’telling’ he means Willow read his thoughts. She is also looking in the direction of the cage now.
I tune back into Keres rambling about the balance and we cannot just kill people just because we feel like it. That all creatures have to be here to create the balance, and demons have as much right to the world as everyone else. Something suddenly hits me. The way she speaks. It’s a ted talk. Something she has tried to explain for deaf ears before. Maybe many times before. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"...should we have to hide just because we are different?" She finishes. Jax opens his mouth, but I quickly step up to him, and place my hand on his shoulder. I shake it and he cock his head to the side, looking at me with piercing eyes. Then he nods. He must have found what he looked for in my eyes.
’Are you willing to accept more changes, my love?’
