Chapter 289: Chapter 289 Heart Of The Enemy’s Camp
Kiara
The warriors Maze mindlinked come to the site where they think they are moving Mira’s body, but we quickly explain what happened and ask them to follow us instead. We do not order them, because we know where we are going is not a place where you can be sure to return alive. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"We will not order anyone to follow us, but we do ask as your leaders, your friends and your equals in battle to follow us and help us end this once and for all. I will not lie; we’re going to the enemy camp to chop the head of the snakes leading this war against us. We can be heroes today, but the possibility of dying is very likely." I stare at all the warriors, wolves and foxes and Lillith. She smiles, but then she kneels down and drops her head, and I quickly share a confused look with Maze.
"Queen Kiara, I owe you and the King my most sincere apology for the pain I have caused you. I never wanted to stab any of you, especially after the kindness you all showed me when I first came here. I can say my hands were forced, because they were, but I chose to do it. I did it with my two hands, and no one was there to lead them for me. I apologize, and will take my punishment however you see fit." Out of the bushes crashes a panther and Willow, the fox warriors are in front of me and Maze in the blink of an eye, ready to defend us, but I tell them to stand down. Willow immediately asks for Lillith to stand, but she stays where she is on one knee, facing the ground.
’Your call, baby. I support whatever decision you make.’ Maze mindlinks me, nodding with a small smile. I look between all the people, trying to think hard and quickly. We need to move soon.
"Why were you brawling with Mira just before?" I ask Lillith, who in her surprise at my question lifts her head and stares at me, before she seemingly remembers something and quickly lowers her head again. Willow and the panther, who I assume is Jax, are both staring at me, but I ignore them.
"She was trying to get into the packground and into the safe rooms. She knows people who are important to Maze and his parents are hiding there, and she wanted an upper hand on you. I followed her as she snuck out of camp after failing to get permission from Magoth to pursue her own selfish route. She has been bragging about knowing all about the packgrounds for days, and I heard her more than once mumble about how she is going to force the Queen to surrender her crown and matebond." Winter is growling in my mind, pacing and wanting for Mira to come back to life so we can kill her all over again, but more slowly this time.
"So you followed her. What then?" Lilith sighs.
"She kept raving to herself about getting revenge on the King for choosing you over her, and on you for being a usurper. She sounded absolutely crazy, more than she used to. Then she heard sounds of fighting, and she followed the sound. I followed her. We saw you and the King fighting, you used your powers and then other foxes bowed down to you. The King’ wolf and your fox had a moment. Mira was fuming and calling upon dark forces to attack you, and I jumped her. She was not going to hurt any of you. Not on my watch. I already did more than enough damage on my own." I nod to myself, Winter agreeing where I am going mentally and the decision I have made. Everyone else is staring at us. We can hear the fighting all around us, but so far we have been left alone in the clearing - except for Willow and Jax finding us. Maze can feel I found a decision, and he walks to my side, kisses my temple and intertwines our fingers.
"Please stand, Lilith. What you did to Maze and I with the dagger was painful, but also necessary. No matter how much I resent the fact that it was what tipped the scale and forced our enemy to show their hands, I am also the first to forgive such a decision, knowing that you only did what you had to in an impossible situation. You had to stay on Magoth’s good side, and I know a certain someone visited you and told you what to do." She sighs, and I send a silent threat to Selene. We still have unfinished business to attend to when all of this is over. "My mate never lost his trust in you, and neither has Willow and Jax. I would be a fool if I lost mine." I reach out a hand, which she takes with tears in her eyes. "Will you help us in our time of need and show an unseen way into the camp so we can stop this madness?" Lilith nods.
"I will do anything in my power to help or die trying." She says, making her promise to me.
Afterwards we gather around Lillith. Maze and Willow are both thanking me for making this decision silently. And I tell them it was not that hard to see that she was forced by the Goddess to do what she did, and she kept up her charade at the same time.
’But you still made that decision to trust her despite everything, Kiara. I am proud to be your mate, my love.’ I blush under his praise, but we do not have time for me to respond. Everyone is ready and the fighting is moving closer to our current location.
"Lead the way." I tell Lillith, and we follow her in our human form, except Jax who has not shifted back yet. His panther moves silently through the forest ground, and we’re on our way. My heart rate quickened. This is it. We are going after the snake’s head.
After running through the forest for quite some time, dodging battles all over, and keeping out of sight, Lilith signals for us to stop. She points forward, and we see a small group of hastily pitched tents.
"Magoth and Narine are bound to be here. They weren’t going to come out before the end of the battle where everyone was weakened from fighting. I can feel Magoth’s presence there, but I am not sure about Narine."
"She’s there." Willow says through gritted teeth. I open my mouth to ask how she knows for certain, but she just points at Jax’s panther, whose eyes are shining ice blue. I nod.
"Let’s move in quietly. We’ll kill anyone we get in contact with, but make sure they do not make a sound. I want this to be a surprise for them." Everyone nods in agreement, and we are on the move again.
As we arrive in the enemy camp, we have not encountered anyone. I start to get a bad feeling, and Lillith leans in with a whisper only to confirm my suspicions.
"This seems to be a trap, my Queen." She says in my ear, and I nod. If it is indeed a trap, we might as well just walk into it with our heads held high. I mindlink everyone to keep together, and be aware of anything out of place. freewёbnoνel.com
We move to the middle of the five tents, and dark purple, almost black, fire traps us in. Someone tut’s their tongue, and out of the shadow our two biggest headaches walk out. With them comes warriors of different species; demons, rogue wolves and dark witches. They are all snickering at their leader’s words, but I just ignore them and tell the others to do the same. Maze moves closer to me, wrapping his arm around my waist, so we are in physical contact. He needs the contact to keep himself and his wolf calm, whereas I need it to share the strength between us. We are one, and right now we are thinking and deciding as one.
"And here I thought you would be a smart cookie. How disappointing." Narine says with a small smirk. I raise an eyebrow, crossing my arms, as everyone stands around me and Maze. What a cocky bitch.
’Remember, we take her down together.’ Willow mindlinks me, knowing I have something up my sleeve from how calm I am. How calm everyone is.
’Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten.’ I link her back, before setting my eyes on Narine and Magoth. He is even uglier than I remember, and that’s saying something.
"What’s the matter, dear? Cat’s got your tongue?" Narine asks, taunting me, but I just chuckle, which takes her by surprise.
"No, but he might take yours soon." I answer, smirking at the flash of fear in her eyes.
