"I can walk by myself, thank you very much." Kiara’s voice states from the hallway, putting a shit eating grin on my face! She is up and as feisty as ever. Not even a minute later she staggers in with my mom and Frida trailing after her. They are both trying very hard not to laugh, and the reason for that comes on as the last one; a very sour looking nurse. Kiara makes a choking sound when she sees me sitting upright in my bed. Dad and Alastair are by my bedside as they have been filling me in. The others are out preparing for the upcoming war. We know they are coming, and we need to get ready to give them a very warm welcome when they do.
"Oh Maze!" Kiara says, grabbing my hand, sitting down in the chair the nurse pushes behind her. She gives her a grateful smile. "Sorry, but I am not going to be a liability now, so I need to walk by myself. But thank you for the chair." The nurse nods, her expression softening just a smidge before she bows to the both of us and leaves the room.
"Hi baby!" I say, lifting her hand and kissing each finger. "Did you miss me?" She purses her lips, raising an eyebrow.
"Not even in the slightest." She says, taking her hand back and crossing her arms. I fake shock and sadness before asking her if she didn’t even miss me a little bit, but she just narrows her eyes. "No!" My eyebrows shoot up, actual concern sets in. What is going on?
"Kiara, what is going on?" I ask her, and she just stares at me for the longest time.
"We were just together, and I didn’t miss you but I was shit scared you didn’t come back with me. Why on earth did you get stabbed in the first place?" I sigh. Oh, so we’re back to this thing. Before I can answer though someone bursts into my room, looks at me, poles their head out and hollers for someone else.
My aunt and uncle look frazzled and scared, but when they see us both in here, both of them release a breath. Then something hits me; they were making a deal of some sort with Selene. What is she hiding? Kiara taps her foot on the ground, her eyes boring into me. I sigh.
"I didn’t think she would hurt me. I saw the knife Kiara, but I thought it was for protection. I never would have guessed. You heard Selene. She put the knife in Lillith’s hand, and there is not going to be any blowback." Kiara narrows her eyes, stands from the chair and walks out of my room without another word. Fuck! "Kiara, wait. Baby.." She’s out the door, and I just stare at it as if it has insulted my entire family at once. What the hell happened? Why is she so mad at me for following what we were told by Selene?
"You are such a fucking moron." Aunt Willow states as she punches me in the arm. Ow! That fucking hurt too. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Why are you hitting me? She is the one who just upped and left." I say, rubbing my arm where she punched me. Mom, aunt Willow and Frida exchange a look and simultaneously roll their eyes.
"You seriously have no clue how to speak to your woman, Maze." Frida says, crossing her arms, her eyes dancing in amusement. "Kiara doesn’t care about why you were stabbed for Goddess sake. She wanted you to apologize for letting your guard down, and promise to be more careful around Lillith from now on." She shakes her head, heading out the room as well.
"Where are you going?" I ask, exasperated already. Frida looks back at me over her shoulder.
"Making sure my best friend does not get herself killed going after a woman she absolutely sees as a threat now." Aunt Willow jumps up, running after Frida.
"I’m coming with you. I can’t have Kiara kill Lillith, they are both family." I stare after them, and then shift my look to my father.
"Well?" I ask, knowing he probably has something to add here, but he just shakes his head.
"You fucked up, son." He says, smiling when mom also punches me in the arm. What is with the women around here and punching someone who has just woken up in the hospital.
"Mom seriously, not you too?!" She just points a finger at me, her silver/purple eyes narrow and angry.
"You got stabbed with a cursed blade, got kidnapped by Selene and Inari to the Wildflower Field, AND you come back here and insult your mate. What the fuck is the matter with you? How did we raise such a dumbass?" I cross my arms, my own eyes angry now.
"Easy mother. Remember who is in charge here." I warn her, but it does nothing to dim her anger. She growls fiercely, her eyes start to glow and she glares at me with a look that can kill.
"Don’t you ever try that tactic on me again, pup, or I will beat you into submission in front of our pack and people." Mom and Galaxy talk together. Havoc whimpers in my mind from the power of them. I might be the King, but my mother is the leader of the Star Wolves and rightful twice over Queen. She is as powerful as ever, and I need to never forget that because she will actually beat me into submission and disgrace if I tried. I bow my head. I know when I am beat.
"I’m sorry. I messed up, but Selene did explain that Lillith had little to do with what happened. She was being played by her and Magoth both." Mom closes her eyes, and when she opens them again they are no longer glowing menacingly.
"You still shouldn’t have put it that way, Maze. Kiara does not deserve you defending someone acting like that, especially not a female. How would you have felt if the role had been reversed?" I think for a second, and if Kiara has defended a male like I defended Lillith, I would have killed him for good measure in fright that she might choose him over me.
"Oh.."
"I know you didn’t mean it that way, son, but you hurt her." Mom sighs, and I nod, finally understanding what happened.
As we were speaking, people had cleared the room, so only mom, dad and I were in there. After mom explained everything with Kiara, I know what I must do - grovel. I need to explain myself, and make her see how I meant it and tell how much of an idiot I am. I swing my legs out of the bed after removing all the monitoring pads from my body. Mom shuts down the machines when they go crazy from the lack of contact, and I’m about to stand from the bed when a presence appears within the pack border. The presence is powerful to say the least, dark and allconsuming. I barely have time to wonder about it before my matebond with Kiara almost goes dormant, and I actually fall from the bed in agonizing pain. I crumble on the floor, my hands trying to protect my heart as it feels like it’s being pulled in a hundred different directions, stomped on and poisoned at the same time. My whole body feels like it’s on fire, and I don’t know how long I am on the floor. Someone is screaming. People are shouting. Someone picks me up and places me on the bed again, and then I realize I am the one who is screaming. The pain is almost too much for me. Darkness threatens to take over, but I fight it.
Waves of nausea overpowers me, and I throw up from the intense emotions running through me.
"Maze! MAZE!" I recognize the panicked voice as my mother’s, and I grunt to let her know I heard her, but I am not in any state to answer her. "Darling, what happened?" She asks, but I do not have to answer her as running feet skid to a halt in my room, and my aunt yells for my mother.
"Abby! SHE’S GONE!" Mom lets me go, but someone else, dad from the scent of him, takes over holding me.
"Who, what and where, Willow?!" Mom asks, her voice serious and angry. More angry than I have ever heard her.
"Kiara. She was down at the stream, we were talking. Keres came out of nowhere and grabbed her. She’s gone. We need the Star Wolves." Mom growls so the hospital shakes, and I’m finally able to push the pain aside a bit.
"Oh that fucking bitch is going to pay for this." Mom states as she runs out of the room. A moment later we hear a piercing howl penetrating the afternoons bustling chaos. Havoc calms down in my mind, telling me everything will be alright. Mom has called for the other Star Wolves. They will get her back. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Kiara. My beautiful mate is gone. It’s all my fault. I lost her. The pain consumes me again, and this time I let the darkness overtake me and drag me from this hell on earth. What have I done?!
