Chapter 273: Chapter 273 Our Species Is Doomed!

Maze

The BBQ went well and people were talking amicably amongst each other. They also included Kiara a lot, asking her endless questions about being a fox shifter and the pros and cons of being one. This led to an academic discussion about the similarities and differences between werewolves and foxes, and why one saw the need to hide away as the other didn’t. Kiara laughed and said it’s because foxes are more introverted, where werewolves cannot help to want to be the center of all attention. This earned another discussion and a lot of laughter. She seemed to bond well with the others, especially with the shy Luna Hannah, who stayed near either Kiara or her mate all night. Suddenly there’s a break in conversation and one of the other Alpha’s clears his throat.

"I actually have a question, if you don’t mind Alpha George." He says with a small smile, and I could feel where this was going immediately. Luna Hannah must have felt it as well because she whimpers slightly besides her mate. So I interrupted quickly.

"I think it’s getting late now, and further questions and discussions must wait until morning. Goodnight everyone." People took the hint, and dispersed without a hitch. I took Alpha George aside and told him we need to address this in the morning, and our stance on the matter or there will be more questions. He agrees, comforting his Luna on the way back.

"Babe, come on. We’re going to be late for breakfast." Kiara says from the bedroom door and I look up. I was so immersed in thoughts about yesterday I hadn’t even noticed she was ready to leave. I jump to my feet and hurry to the door. I take her hand in mine, kissing her fingers.

"Sorry, baby, I was far away in my own thoughts." I tell her with a small smile, and she kisses my cheek.

"No kidding, I’ve been calling your name for almost 5 minutes." She says, her eyes twinkling. I shake my head. Yeah, I was far away in my own thoughts alright. "What is going on?" She asks, looking at me with worry.

"Luna Hannah..." Kiara stops and turns to me fully.

"She may not have an active wolf, love, but her wolf is in there. She just needs time!" I raise an eyebrow.

"She is not wolfless?" Kiara shakes her head.

"No, she is stuck or something. Winter communicated with her yesterday, and she doesn’t know how to come forward. It’s like Hannah is blocking her. But not on purpose or anything. It’s like she had a trauma at some point and her wolf got trapped inside of her." I furrow my brows in deep thought.

"But then why can’t I feel her?" I ask, and Kiara shrugs.

"I can feel her if it helps." Kiara says, and something hits me.

"Babe, what if she is not a wolf shifter?" Kiara’s eyes widened in understanding. Then a sad smile appears on her face.

"That actually explains everything." She says, leading me forward again. "We need to get this underway, and we need to implore the importance of acceptance." She says with determination. "I think she may have shifted early like me, and her parents were horrified about her counterpart, shaming her and making her scared of shifting. Maybe she even pushed the memory down from that night to a point where she believes it was a dream and not something that happened." I nod, thinking everything over as we walk into the downstairs conference room, which is the biggest we have, and where we will be dealing with this meeting and meals.

Everyone is gathered there waiting for us, and the rooms go quiet as we walk in. Luna Hannah is crying silently in her mates arms, who is staring daggers at a young Alpha who is smirking in response. Kiara looks around, and then rushes to Luna Hannah’s side. She asks something quietly and the Luna shakes her head. Alpha George has not taken his eyes off the young Alpha.

"Will someone please explain what is going on?" I ask, walking to my place at the end of the table. I look at the others and point to my uncle, who is also giving the young Alpha a disgusted look. My aunt is being held back by him, and it’s clear he hit a nerve with something. "Alpha Daemon, would you please be so kind?" I ask, gathering the attention of the crowd. Kiara growls right then, and is around the table before I can move. The young Alpha recoils as his Queen gets in his face. I raise an eyebrow. Woah he fucked up if my Kiara is this pissed off.

"Are you going to tell him yourself, you little piece of ignorant shit?" Kiara asks, her voice calm and absolutely dangerous. He crosses his arms.

"Are you going to strip me of my title as well, Queen?" He asks, emphasizing Queen to antagonize her.

"No." She says. "I am going to just kill you outright." She continues, and the man swallows now. "Since I am a lowlife, feral and stupid creature, I do not have to play by the rules of polite society. Do I, Alpha Greg?" His eyes flicker to me for a brief second before he raises his hands.

"I meant no offense, Queen Kiara, but a wolf is more intelligent."

"Keep digging your own grave, dude." Someone to his right says. Alpha Cian. "He called the Queen for those things and urged us to have her removed as our Queen as we cannot possibly be ruled by someone like her - his words not mine. And then he called out Alpha George’s mate as wolfless. He called her useless, an abomination and disgrace to our species and she should have been drowned at birth when it was clear she had no wolf." Alpha Cian continues, shaking his head. "To say he is not exactly popular in here right now is an understatement." Alpha Cian looks at his mother with slight amusement.

"When your father lets me go, I will make sure he is corrected for his mistakes!" Luna Isadora says fiercely.

"Which is why I am not letting you go, darling." My uncle says with a chuckle and kisses her cheek. I shake my head.

"Alpha Greg, your views have been heard. If you are only here to spew nonsense and ignorance, you can leave. I will not ever tolerate someone speaking off or to my Queen as you did, but I will not take away her fun either. If you keep this up you will answer to her, my mother or my aunt, and believe me, you would wish for death before they are finished with you." At that point my parents walked in, as if they knew they were needed. Mom takes one look around the room, and rolls her eyes. She sits down besides aunt Isadora, who sits down as well. Dad and uncle Daemon follow suit. "If you didn’t know before, you will all know now; this pack is run by the females. They are the bossladies, and we are perfectly fine with that. And you can ask all my uncles; they feel the same way about their mates." Uncle Daemon snorts. freёwebnoѵel.com

"Didn’t have much damn choice." Mom leans forward with an eyebrow raise.

"Are you complaining?" Uncle Daemon quickly shakes his head.

Kiara is still in Alpha Greg’s face, and she is not backing down. He looks around the room and lastly at Kiara.

"Our species is doomed!" He says, sitting down and scowling. Kiara hauls him to his feet, bringing him close to her face. That was a stupid mistake on his side. Again. My mate’s eyes glow, and she growls again.

"Alpha Greg, you are found inadequate. Either submit or fight for your title!" Kiara and Winter says together. I would rather not have any more fights for titles, but I understand where she is coming from. And she is right. He has stepped over several lines, and Alpha George is in his right to challenge the moron. I mindlink him to ask what he wants to do. He says that if he doesn’t submit to Kiara, he will challenge him on behalf of his Queen and his Luna.

Alpha Greg’s eyes shift. His wolf is present.

"Forgive the human, my Queen. He doesn’t know better. We would never go against you or the King. I apologize for his disgusting behavior, and I will do better in guiding him." The wolf says, bowing his head to Kiara. "And I apologize to Alpha George and Luna Hannah. He was over the line!" Both nod and sit down. Luna Hannah still seems shaken up about the whole ordeal.

"Alright, now that that’s been taken care of. Please enjoy some breakfast, and we will start this Alpha meeting with some news my mate and I just discovered ourselves. We also have some old enemies on the surface once again, and we need to band together to take care of them. And lastly we need new treaties drawn up between our packs. But for now we will eat and strengthen ourselves." Kiara leaves the confused Alpha to his own thoughts as she wanders to me and sits down in my lap to eat. I chuckle at her antics. She doesn’t care who sees us like this, and I actually love it!

’We also need to help Luna Hanna and her counterpart.’ She mindlinks me, and I nod showing I heard her.
