"I’m Maddox and father to Maple." The only elder says. Then he points to the others. "Those are Hera, Penny, Cian and Holden." He sighs. "All of them are unmated, which is the only reason they were allowed to leave the camp. I argued that Maple and I needed to go and see if we could start over. The young man she was with is the son of the Chief and chose Maple as his future breeder. They were not married because he is marrying someone else, but she is not good enough to have children with. I tried to get my daughter out of that toxic environment." A knock on the door makes him go quiet and good the same. The tension in the room right now is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
"Come in." Madeline opens the door, walking in with her arms filled with baskets of drinks. She takes a step inside before she stiffens. Her eyes widened. One of the young men, Cian, jumps to his feet and takes the baskets from her arms and places them on the table. His eyes are clouded in confusion, but he doesn’t take them off Madeline for one second. Kiara giggles.
"Uhm, Madeline, I think someone is trying to get in contact with you." Kiara says with amusement, but Madeline ignores the poor man.
"I don’t have time right now, Luna. I am sorry." She says practically fleeing the room. Cian looks crestfallen.
’Get your butt back in here, Madeline!’ I order her, and she can do nothing else than do what I say. The others finish and leave the room as she enters again.
"You called for me, Alpha." She says with an attitude. I raise an eyebrow.
’If you don’t want the young man as your mate, you have to reject him, but he seems like a good guy. And he hasn’t taken his eyes off you since you arrived.’ I mindlink her and she stiffen again.

’My parents are never going to accept such a match, Alpha. They are going to disown me if I ever accept someone they think is beneath me. ’Yes, Alpha. And I have nothing to pay for a room or anything. My parents take my wage for food and rent.’
’This is a Ryan situation all over again!’ Kiara says, growling in anger. ’You can have a room here for free. Is this why you are ignoring that poor young man? He is heartbroken. He looked like the sun had been stolen from the sky when you just left the room.’ Madeline blush.
"I’m sorry for my tardiness, Alph, Luna." She turns to Cian and gives him a small smile. "Hi." He lights up like a Christmas tree.
"Hi! My name is Cian, but you can call me whatever you want!" He says in a hurry. Madeline giggles.
"I’m Madeline. And I am not going to reject you, but I really do have to go back to work now." Cian looks crestfallen again.
"She works in the kitchen, Cian. You can go down there after we’re done here." I tell him, and Madeline leans in and kisses his cheek. She turns completely red, running from the room again with a wave.
"I have the most beautiful mate in the world." I laugh.
"You’ll have to fight all of us about that because we all think that!" I tell him with a smile, urging people to eat. Looking closely they look like people who haven’t had a proper meal in some time.
We urge them to tell us about their life in the camp as they call it, and what we gather is a tale of a rough life. A life where the most ruthless survives and thrives and those with empathy and a heart suffers. They tell us about punishments, starvation and a Chief who is merciless when he wants something. A way of life he has instilled in his son, who we had the displeasure of meeting. Maddox says it wouldn’t surprise him if the Chief joins Magoth’s side just to kill Kiara and I and be King himself. I roll my eyes. Well he has to get in the fucking line of people who wants my crown by now.
As we are finishing up, Kiara and I welcome all of our new people into the pack. They say they are fine with sharing a house or something for now, which is something either Elena or Callie will have to take care of. Kiara mindlink them and they both arrive a second later. Maple opted to live with Callan in his small cottage, while Cian wants to be close to Madeline. I’m sure she’ll have no protest whatsoever of him sharing her room here in the pack house.
"Willow, we have a request for you." I explain the situation and she sighs deeply.
"Of course I’ll help. This is getting out of hand and something that fucking bitch can use to her advantage. Both of them." She continues before Kiara can ask, making both of them laugh.
"Let’s get people settled and we’ll do the pack meeting in a couple of days. We also have the Alpha conference coming up soon. And the blue moon in two weeks." Time is flying all of a sudden. We lead Cian down into the kitchen where Madeline is arguing with another kitchen Omega about something food related. They stop when they notice us, and the other Omega quickly scurry off. Madeline rolls her eyes.
"She is going to tell my parents." She says with tears in her eyes.
’Elena, do we have vacant rooms in the pack house for a couple?’
’We have one on the Gamma floor, Alpha. The one’s on the floor under are smaller. It’ll be okay, but...’
’Prepare it for Madeline and her mate. They’re moving in today.’
’Okay, I’ll have it ready in an hour.’
’Thank you!’ I turn my attention back on the conversation at hand.
"We’re getting you things now, and your room is going to be ready in an hour." She shakes her head.
"I can’t just leave..."
"Madeline, they are in the wrong and we are going to help you! Do you trust us?" Kiara asks and she nods. "Then let us help you."
This is going to be yet another long ass day, but we’re moving in the right direction even despite this setback. Slowly, but surely. We will get there working together.
