Chapter 224: Chapter 224 New Perspective
Kiara
Back within pack borders, I shift back into myself, throwing on the oversize t-shirt Amber throws at me. I haven’t been in a hurry to shift back, as I’m expecting a huge argument with Maze. He probably thinks this is all my fault, and angry his precious ex mate got caught in the fire. Although she seemed to be there with the enemy, but he probably didn’t see it that way. He is blind and stupid. Two things I cannot find in myself to handle at the moment.
’He said he still wants us as his mate, Kiara. He called us baby. That has to count for something.’ Winter whines, but I disagree. What he said in the mind-link doesn’t add up with how he has acted since that day in the pack house. He just believed whatever Mira told him, and even though it was obvious the dude was there to create trouble, he still didn’t believe me. He dismissed me.
Old wounds of distrust and betrayal swell up inside me, and I practically run for my room. I need to be alone. I need to think. Maze is going to be busy with the prisoners we took with us back, and explaining what happened to my dad. I need to call him beforehand so he knows the truth. I don’t know what Maze has planned on telling him, but I bet it’s not going to fall out to my advantage.
In my room I grab my phone, calling my parents. Tears are streaming down my cheeks, and the anxiety attack overwhelms me the minute mom picks up on the other end. It took me a full five minutes, and a lot of encouragement from mom to drag myself out of it. That is when I hear the commotion outside my room. I locked the door when I got back here, wanting solitude, but someone was banging on it like a madman.
"Kiara! Open the door. Please! Come on, open the door. I can feel you.." Silence. I hold my breath, some part of me hoping he is gone, some part hoping he’ll come bursting in any minute like a knight in shining armor. Nothing happens. Mom is still talking to me on the phone, urging me to breathe and ensuring me she is still there.
I take a deep breath when I’m sure he is gone.
"I’m okay now mom, thank you for the help."
"Where is your mate?" The questions almost send me back in the depths of anxious hell, but I keep my composure.
"He is busy elsewhere. Is dad there?" Mom scuffs, knowing that is not the full truth.
"I’m here, sweetheart. What is going on?"
"Did you know Mason came here to seek me out?" I ask, and both are silent for a long time. "Mom? Dad?" I ask, worried they actually hung up on me.
"No! We knew he took some personal time, and left the pack. But we didn’t know he was going to see you. I would have ordered him to stay away from you if I knew." Dad growls. I sigh.
"Well, he did come here. And he was thrown out. But that is not why I am calling. I can handle that idiot myself."
"Then why are you calling, Kiara?"
"Mira showed up with Mason. And she got to stay. She’s been here a week, but today she helped Mason to kidnap me." Silence. "I’m obviously back, but Mason is taken prisoner by Maze and the pack. We kinda need you to come here, dad." Silence. "Uhm, are you still there?" A deep sigh, a rumble of a growl, and glass shattering. I just look at my phone in utter confusion, when the lock on my door clicks open and Maze rushes in. He stops dead in his tracks when he sees me on the floor, my eyes red and puffy and phone in my ear. freёweɓnovel.com
"Your father is on his way. I have to get someone to fix the office window." Mom says matter of factly. "Are you okay, darling? How did you get back?" I hesitate.
"Can I call you back mom?" I ask, knowing I need to warn Maze about my dad. He obviously shifted in the office and left. He’ll be here soon.
"Sure, but take care of yourself! Tell Maze I said hi." I don’t have the guts to tell the truth about me and Maze, so I just promise to do that and hang up. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Maze keeps staring at me. After a couple of minutes of him not moving and still staring, I got up from the floor.
"Listen up Alpha asshat, my dad is coming in wolf form. And I would appreciate it if you stopped staring at me like a moron and either said something or left. This is getting tiring, and I do not have enough energy to handle your idiocy right now." Maze still doesn’t say anything, but in a blink of an eye I am in his arms and he hugs me close. I’m so surprised by his actions I don’t know how to react, so I just stand there like an idiot myself.
"I am so happy you are okay!" He finally whispers in my ear. Anger swirls in me. Happy? He is happy I am okay? What the actual fuck! He has not spoken to me in three days, and he thinks I have cheated on him. How can he say he is happy that I am okay? I am far from okay. Not even close to it as a matter of fact. But how do I tell him without blowing up? Winter purrs in my mind, and it’s so difficult to keep my mind clear with her constant yearning. I gently push him back, his impossible attracting eyes drawing me in again. I blink. Focus for goodness sake, Kiara.
