Chapter 215: Chapter 215 Moving Forward
Maze
I only move just outside the room, so I can still hear everything that is going on in there. I mind-link Kristian and thank him for helping me out today. He says it’s not a problem and asks how things are going. I tell him I think it’s going well, and how Kiara decided we should share a room. He offers to contact the Omegas to move her things, and I thank him again. He and Leon have been by my side ever since childhood, and even through this period with depression and brooding, they have stayed loyal and friends. I don’t know if I could have done this without them and my Gamma’s. Although I would never admit so to any of them.
I can hear Alastair explaining his situation, which is even more complicated than my own. And yes, that is actually possible.
He was a fae prince, second to the throne, after his big brother. But then he found his mate, who was a wolf. Her family didn’t want him, and his family didn’t want her. They both tried to force them to reject each other, but Alastair and Frida wanted to be together, so she approached me. It was brave. I wasn’t quite approachable at the time, but when I heard her story, I had to help. No one should ever be forced to reject someone they love. I offered them a place in my pack and a rank. Both her father and his parents told I was a fool, and it would never work between them, but I told them to fuck off and leave them alone. Alastairs family denounced his claim to the throne, declaring him dead to their world. I was heartbroken on his behalf, but they showed their true colors.
I walk into the room again, watching how they are working and talking at the same time. Alastair is charming Kiara and vice versa. They seem to be good friends already, and I just look on with a strange feeling of being proud and at a loss all over again. I am moving forward, which is a blessing. The darkness inside me is not so intense anymore, but I am also afraid. I know what I told Kiara at lunch. If Mira should ever decide to show up I have all the intentions of throwing her out again, but I also know it’ll be very hard to do so. I’m not actually sure if my heart is truly over her. Then my eyes land on the way the sun plays in Kiara’s hair, the movements of her body and when she notices me her face lights up in that beautiful smile, and all my doubts go out the window. I will never take Mira back. I made a promise to Kiara of not breaking her heart. A promise I have every intention to keep.
A couple of hours later Kiara and Alastair have everything planned out. The drawing she has made of her vision, and his ability to find exactly what she wants, makes me wonder if they should have free range to redo the entire pack house. I think I am going to ask them to do my office next, if this place gets as cool as the pictures seem. I’m sitting on the couch, and when Alastair bids us goodbye, she plops down beside me with a happy smile on her face. I lift her like she weighs nothing, which she doesn’t to me, and put her in my lap instead.
"Maze! I am way too heavy to be on your lap. Put me down." She seems genuinely concerned, but I just shake my head.
"You’re light as a feather, baby. And I want you here. You have not been in my arms for hours!" She snorts.
"Goodness me. A liar and a flatter all in the same sentence. I’m impressed." I give her a big smile, and pull her face down to mine pressing my lips to hers again. I will never get tired of kissing her luscious lips.
"Mmh. This was much better." I say, loving how her eyes are totally unfocused and the slow smile adoring her face. "How about we get you settled in our room, and then we can join my parents for dinner?" She snaps back to reality, nodding with a serious expression.
"I hope the pack won’t hate having me as Luna. I don’t want you to suffer, Maze." I hate that she sounds so broken and concerned.
"They will love you, baby! I know it. Alastair and Frida are excellent at judging people, and they both love you already!"
She smiles, standing up and reaching her hand down. Ugh, I had kind of hoped she forgot my suggestion of going anywhere. I loved having her so close to me.
"Alastair seems like a sweetheart, but you two didn’t seem that close?" She asks, as we leave her office. I close the door behind us, and lead the way down the hall.
"He’s like an annoying brother. You see we all talk to each other like this when we are informal." She nods, her eyes guarded. "Tell me what is going on in your pretty head." I plead. I can’t read her when she guards herself like this, and it is driving me crazy.
"I just... It’s very different from my fathers pack." She says, not looking at me. "People are not close, and you never know when someone you consider a friend turns on you. It’s awful." I can’t believe this. Why would her old pack be like that? Uncle Benjamin seems like a good leader.
"It’s not my fathers fault, but my grandfather created a lot of internal fights and corruption. Dad is trying to rectify it, but some of those pack members are very powerful now, and not that easy to take down. He is trying though, and it is lots better today than it was when he took over. He told me stories." I nod, deciding not to press the issue.
We enter our room, and I mind-link mom if her and dad are up for a family dinner tonight with me and Kiara, which she promptly answers yes. The small squeal in my mind tells me how excited she is. I think her and dad are honestly really relieved that I am finally coming back to my old self.
Kiara immediately starts unpacking her belongings, and I help wherever I can. Half the walk-in is cleared for her. I did that the second I knew I wanted her as my mate and I just had to get myself together. Now I am helping her to move in, and I realize she needs all sorts of things and a thought hits me.
"Hey wildflower?" I ask, and Kiara quicks an eyebrow at me.
"Wildflower?" She asks with a giggle, and I shrug.
"I’m trying things, okay." I answer with mock annoyment, and she just lifts an eyebrow.
"Uh huh." I smile, pulling her to me. frёeωebɳovel.com
"How about I take my Queen out on a shopping date tomorrow?" I ask, dipping her and pecking her lips. She giggles again.
"I have what I need, Maze. But you are very sweet for offering." She replies, and I shake my head as I bring her up again.
"No, you barely have enough underwear for a week, Kiara. You need more. And I will give you everything. Also, I need enough to be able to rip your clothes off in the future." She raised an eyebrow.
"Is that so? Cocky much, Mr Alpha?" She asks with a teasing tone, and I smirk.
"For you? Always." I’m interrupted by mom mind-linking the both of us that dinner is ready. I groan. I’m an idiot for suggesting this. I had her in our room. Fucking hell! Well, I’ll just have to pick this up when we come back. Kiara laughs at my expression.
"Don’t look so disappointed, babe. We’ll get back here." She says coyly, as she drags my ass with her. Oh, she has no idea what she just set into motion.
Challenge accepted little mate, challenge accepted.
