Chapter 211: Chapter 211 Honest Lunch

Kiara

My head is spinning. Just yesterday I was certain I would never accept or be accepted by Maze. And now we have done just that. I’m still unsure what to think of it all, but all I know is that he needed me and I reacted instinctively by rushing to him. Winter is over the moon. Her mate finally accepted her on both sides, and she has been bugging me with when we’re going to mate ever since this morning.

Maze promised we would talk some more at lunch, and I left him with his parents after making sure he was okay again. He swore he was, and he would mind-link me if there was something. He hasn’t, and I have been working. When I came in I discovered his thoughtful present, which must have been costly. I have no idea how he managed to get all this in just one day, but it seems my mate has secrets I still don’t know about. Not that I mind this secret.

In my locker, which has got a name tag, I found a new doctor coat with my name on it. And all the necessities for me to do my job, so I don’t have to borrow from the hospital anymore. All the things have my name engraved on them, and they are beautiful. From the stethoscope to the watch I can have on my coat to measure pulses etc. I absolutely love it, and I mind-linked a sincere thank you immediately. He told me it was nothing, but for me it was everything.

I had a talk with the head doctor today, and told him about my speciality studies to become a pediatric doctor, and he was more than happy to be my mentor. Especially since everyone in the pack felt our acceptance earlier, and knows I am the future Luna now. There’s no hiding it, and I have to face this sooner rather than later.

My patients were mostly sweet and welcoming, but there’s always those who feel the need to tell you they would be so much better at being Luna than you. I had a few of them as well today, but most of them seem like really jealous women who need to find a mate of their own.

As lunchtime rings near I go to the breakroom to meet with Maze, but instead I come face to face with two identical twins. They bow to me, and present themselves as the Beta’s Leon and Kristian.

"Welcome to the pack, Luna. We are sorry we haven’t presented ourselves before, but the Alpha didn’t want to force people on you. And Kristian has been helping a Beta in another pack and just came home last night." Leon says, and I smile at them.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you both. I had no idea the pack had twin Beta’s, that’s amazing." They both give me a dazzling smile.

"Well, we have triplets as Gammas as well, so yeah. There’s a lot of ranked members. My brother and I will share a mate and as will the triplets, so don’t worry. There won’t be too many women when we find them." I laugh.

"Well then. What can I do for you? I thought I was meeting Maze?" The guys shake their heads.

"He asked us to escort you to lunch." I furrow my eyebrows. That’s weird, but I might as well do as they say.

"Am I coming back any time soon?" I ask, and they shake their heads again.

"We already told Quin." They say together, and I laugh. Okay then. I hang up my coat without further questions, although my head is swirling with them.

We walk outside, and the twins ask me a lot of questions about my old pack and myself. I answer as well as I can, and ask them back about this pack and Maze. I am curious about my mate, and they tell me about their childhood. Kristian seems like the jokester of the two. He is always cracking a joke or telling a funny story, while Leon is more quiet and reserved. He only opens his mouth when he has something well thought of to say. I have immense respect for both when we arrive at a picnic area.

We’re down by the stream, but further into the pack lands than I’m used to be. I look at the blanket, where Maze is sitting and waiting for me. He is out of breath, so I assume he just arrived.

"Welcome to an honest lunch, gorgeous." He greets, getting to his feet to take my hand. He puts it to his mouth, and kisses it. He then leads me to the blanket and sits us both down. I look over my shoulder, but the twins are nowhere to be seen. freēwebnovel.com

"Well, thank you. This is beautiful, Maze. You didn’t have to."

"I know I didn’t, but I wanted to. I want to show you I am not an asshat all the time." I giggle, looking at the blanket. A lot of small dishes are there, with desserts and drinks as well.

"What is all of this?" I ask, looking at the food.

"A little of this and a little of that. Bread, cheese, small pies, chocolate covered strawberries. I didn’t know what you like, but your friend Ryan helped me pick it out." My eyes meet this, and the warmth I see in there takes me by surprise and my breath away.

"You said welcome to an honest lunch?" I ask, not knowing what else to say. This gesture is so sweet, and so opposite to the Alpha I have known the time I’ve been here. Though that’s not that long.

"Yes. I thought we could alternate asking the other a question, and we have to answer truthfully." I think about it, and I actually like the idea.

"Alright. You start." I say, and he nods, while gesturing for me to take some food. I do, and it’s delicious.

"I spoke to your father, and he said you were rejected before? Why?" I swallow the food. Right to the case huh.

"He was the pack’s Beta’s son, and he felt I would be a weakness. He already had a girlfriend, a Beta’s daughter from another pack. He rejected me in front of her and the whole pack on my birthday. Dad was livid and wanted to kill him. Mom talked him down, but he won’t be taking over as Beta anytime soon. Dad refuses to have him as his second in command, and my adopted brother is ten." I giggle at the thought.

"Mason was so mad when dad announced he and mom had adopted an orphan Alpha’s son, because that meant he would never have a chance of being the Alpha of our pack, although he would have actually been just that had he accepted me. But he was too disgusted by my wolfless status to think about that. I renounced my claim to the title with my acceptance of his rejection. Which was definitely salt to the wound." Maze laughed with me.

"Wow, the audacity of some people." He says, and I just nod. "Okay, your turn."

"Is it true you are not over your former mate?" I ask, and Maze’s eyes become sad for a moment. Maybe that was too personal a question so early to the conversation? But his question was pretty personal as well.
