Chapter 194: Chapter 194 The Innkeeper and His Brother

Amber’s POV

After the bath, I take Alma back into the inn room, leading her to the table where Chase, Blaze and the girls are sitting with Tristan and Haldon. Haldon is Tristan’s right hand, and he’s a good man. Alma eyes the guys nervously, and I smile kindly at her.

"No one is going to hurt you. Alma. I promise they are all good men!" She nods, but doesn’t look completely convinced. The girls give Alma a big smile, before digging into their meal again, clearly pleased with being indoors and eating freshly made food. I look around. freewёbnoνel.com

"Where’s the twins?" I ask, as Ezra joins the table.

"Where do you think if neither Glaciel or Merida is here?" He asks with a small grimace, making the other laugh. I chuckle, gesturing for Alma to sit down with us.

"Right. Sorry, Ezra." I apologize, but he sends me a big smile.

"No need. I get all the attention I need, but she is quite smitten with your youngest." He says, smiling. "We even talked about having our own." He continues, and Tristan tells him Glaciel has been asking him the same. They venture into a discussion about babies and the best time to have them. I only listened with half an ear, as one of the girls serving around the room scurried over.

"Ma’am, if I may?" She asks, eyeing Alma. I lift an eyebrow, nodding for her to continue. "Master Jodun said we are not to serve her." She nods to Alma, and I narrow my eyes.

"Master Jodun?" I reply as a question and the girl nods nervously. "And why isn’t he here to tell me himself?" I continued, my eyes still narrowed in anger. Chase wraps his arm around my shoulder, asking me silently to calm down. The girl swallowed.

"He is getting his nose fixed, ma’am." She answers with a small curtsey. So this Master Jodun is clearly Alma’s husband, which reminds me.

’Gail, I need a divorce drawn up ASAP. I have hired a new personal assistant, but she is unfortunately married to some duche who rents her out to guests who frequent here. I need her freedom. Oh, and a contract to hire her as well. She is getting normal pay, with a monthly bonus for extra work, and an annual bonus like the rest of the close Royal staff. She’ll need an advanced payment, not affecting her monthly payment, for clothes, shoes etc. In good quality.’

’Right away, my Queen. The divorce I have ready in 30 minutes, the other will take at least a day.’

’That’s fine. Thank you Gail!’

’I’ll bring it down shortly.’

I switch channels, while Chase is telling the girl to fetch the innkeeper instead of Master Jodun. We’ll only need him when he is forced to sign the divorce. I’m not leaving without Alma!

’Doc, I need your assistance. I have a new hire, and I need her looked over. Maybe one of your female healer colleagues should come with you, she has been mistreated badly.’

’We’re on our way.’

I zone back into the conversation, knowing I’ve been a bit rude to the poor girl. Chase is smirking at me, while Blaze is giving me a thumbs up.

"What did I miss?" I ask, as Chase shakes his head at me and kisses my temple.

"I ask the girl to get the innkeeper, and let Master Jodun know he is not welcome at our table before we ask him to." I nod, thanking him for handling the situation.

"You looked occupied." He answered, nibbling on my ear.

"Papa, why are you biting mommy’s ear?" Melody asks, and I giggle. Busted. Chase turns his head, smiling at his daughter.

"Because I wanted to." He answers with a laugh, and Melody narrows her eyes.

"No, bad dragon! It’s not nice to bite." She says, flicking his nose after standing up. Everyone busted out laughing, as Chase looked at his daughter with wide eyes. Melody sticks her tongue out, taking Elina’s hand and telling us they are going to bed. One of the nannies rises from a nearby table to escort them to their room. Chase is still looking utterly confused. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"Did she just??" I nod while laughing so hard that tears run down my cheeks. Goddess, that girl is going to be the death of us with all her sass and attitude. Where the fuck did she come up with calling her papa a bad dragon? Then my eyes catch Ezra, and the glint in them gives me all the answers I need.

"You didn’t.." I say, and he smirks.

"I have no idea what you are talking about, dear Amber." He answers, putting his hands behind his head.

The innkeeper approaches the table as the laughter dies down, and I put on my stern face again. Alma laughed with us, and seeing her laugh just told me how much she needs help! Her face became younger and more carefree, but as soon as the laughter died down, her whole body language changed to be closed, nervous and fidgety again.

"You wanted to speak to me, my King?" The innkeeper says, looking at Chase. He shakes his head.

"No, my mate wanted to speak to you? What is your name?"

"Master Jordan, my King. Jodun is my twin brother, before you ask." Chase nods, looking at me.

"Amber?" I take a deep breath, the man giving me a curious look.

"Why ain’t Alma allowed to eat?" I ask, going straight to the point. Jordan sighs.

"We never serve her. She is not our responsibility. She is married to Jodun, and he decides what she can and cannot do." I shake my head, anger vibrating through me.

"She is not his property." I answer angrily, but Alma clears her throat.

"I actually am, my Queen. My father sold me to Jodun to be his wife. We were married the day I met him, and they made a marriage contract stating he owns me and can do to and with me what he wants." I raise an eyebrow.

"Get your disgusting brother and the contract here, now! And get us, all of us, something to eat and drink. I do not care what he says, Alma is under our protection now, and she will have proper food." Jordan nods.

"I hope you can help, my Queen. We have many females who are sold to low creatures like my brother, and I have long wanted to get rid of him, but I’ve let him stay because of Alma. Goddess knows where they would go if I kicked him out." I nod.

"Get him here, and we will solve this. And we are going to make contract marriage illegal. Don’t worry. Good change is on the way." Jordan bows, going back to the serving counter. He speaks to two of the girls, who get trays ready, before he goes into the back room. Why does trouble always find me? I shake my head, a small smile on my lips. At least we are doing some real good here.
