Chapter 193: Chapter 193 He’s Not Worth It

Amber’s POV

In the late afternoon we arrive at the first inn, but do not manage to do so before the rain starts pouring down. I mind-link Chase and Blaze to get the kids inside and to our rooms. I’ll be right there when I have made sure Aslan is taken care of. I take him inside the stable with the others, not worrying to announce myself or make anyone aware of my presence. The stable boys hurry to Tristan and some of the other officers, offering to take care of the horses. Tristan looks at me when no one offers me the same courtesy, and I laugh.

"You can just go Tristan, I’ll make sure Aslan is alright and have a good rub down and some food before I go in." He shakes his head.

"I’ll help you." He offers, as the head of the stable wrinkles his nose.

"Women should not be in the army. They are too weak and now the Captain has to help her get the horse clean and dry." He spits on the floor, making the boys laugh. All the men remaining the stable growls, not liking what this man says. He raised an eyebrow. "And she has apparently slept with all of them to make sure to have protection. Typical whorish ways. How about letting me have some of that ass later." He says with a smirk, as Tristan steps in front of me. I’m not afraid of the man. I’ve dealt with more terrifying creatures while I’ve been here. I cross my arms. He clearly does not know who I am or he doesn’t care. Out of the corner of my eye I see Chase and Blaze enter the stables, and I suspect one of the men mind-linked them. I wonder if they don’t think I can handle the man or if it’s his safety they are afraid of.

"What do you say, girl? Give me a good round in the hay later? I’ll pay good money to see what all of these fools have seen." Tristan has his hand on his sword, his eyes switching between his own and his beasts.

"I’ll go about my way if I were you." I tell him with an eye roll, turning my back at him and bending for a brush for Aslan. The man steps forward, probably to slap my ass, but before he can even raise a hand, Chase has him in a chokehold. Blaze is growling fiercely, and the entire stable has gone quiet now. They recognize their King and Prince, and I smile at my mates. This is absolutely not necessary, but I admire their proactiveness.

I put down the brush, stepping around Tristan and putting my hand on Chases. The one on the man’s neck. He’s gone deadly purple in the head, his eyes bulging out of his head. He splutters something incoherent, while eyeing me. I ignore him and kiss Chase’s cheek.

"Let him down, my love. He’s not worth it. I had it handled btw." Chase’s reptile eyes meet mine, and I know Calor is five seconds from killing this idiot. "Come on my dragon. He’s not worth the trouble! I’m okay, I promise." I reach for Blaze on the other side of Chase, making them both listen to me. Chase’s eyes change back to his normal color, while Blaze still looks rather murderous. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Come on, let him down now." I say again, smiling. Chase releases the man, who in turn crashes to the ground and heaves to get air down his lungs.

"M.. My King.." Someone says with a shaking voice from behind us. A woman is looking deadly scared to be addressing the King, but Chase gives her a tender look.

"Yes?" He asks, prompting her to speak.

"He.. Uhm. He didn’t mean to offend you mistress, my King. He just..."

"MY MISTRESS?!" Chase roars, making the girl cower in fear. I roll my eyes. These men and their temper. I reach down and tuck the woman to her feet, smiling kindly at her.

"I am not his mistress, neither of them actually. My name is Amber. What is yours?" I ask, and she blushes deeply.

"You are the Queen." She states while the entire staff gasps. I sigh but nod. "I am so sorry, my Queen. He was inappropriate towards you and nothing can forgive that." I narrow my eyes. frёewebnoѵēl.com

"But it was okay when I was a common woman or the King’s mistress?" I ask, and she shakes her head.

"N.. No.. I just.." The man, who clearly has gotten his lungs to work, jumps to his feet and slaps the woman across the face so she falls to the floor. I swirl around and punch him in the face, breaking his nose in the process.

"If you ever hurt another woman while we are here I will kill you myself! Am I in any way clear, Mr?" He screams in pain, angry tears rolling down his cheeks. He gives me the stink eye, and I bow down coming face to face with him. "Am I unclear in any way?" I ask again, and he shakes his eyes.

I help the woman to her feet, wrapping an arm around her. I turn my head towards Tristan.

"Would you mind terribly to take care of Aslan today, Tristan?" I ask, and he smiles.

"Of course not, my Queen." He answers, while everyone gives me a surprised look. I walk towards the door, my mates following me with smirks on their faces.

"And stop smirking, you two." I tell them sternly, but I know they will not be listening. I told them to not hurt him, and then I broke his nose. I groan. Fucking great.

We cross the courtyard, going inside the inn. The woman fidget with the hem of her dress, and looks nervous when we enter the large and dimly lit room. It serves as the dining, drinking and living room in one. By the fire there are a few VIP tables, and all around us people are drinking and eating before a good night’s sleep. The inn is big enough for almost all of us to sleep in a proper bed, but I know some of the horse people said they would rather sleep in the stable with the animals.

The innkeeper, who looks very similar to the unpleasant man in the stable, hurries forward. The smile on his large face freezes a bit when he notices the woman at my side, and disappears completely when we tell him about the events in the stable. He apologies on his brother’s behalf, and tells us the woman is his wife, who he rents out to travelers for money. He has told him time and time again it is not right, and I am vibrating in anger.

I turn my gaze to the young woman, trying to look friendly, but I know the anger is present on my face.

"May I know your name, please?"

"Alma, my Queen." She replies with a small voice. I nod.

"Do you want to come with us as my personal assistant or do you want to stay here?" I asked, and her eyes widened.

"I’ll come with you any day, your Grace." She answers, and I nod. Chase is already mind-linking the people who have to know, and I send for a warm bath for me and Alma to my room. I tell the guys we’ll be down when we are clean, and both of them kiss my cheek. They know better than to argue with me.
