Chapter 190: Chapter 190 The Funeral

Amber’s POV

This week has been absolutely insane. We have been working on the schedule of the Kingdom roundtrip, and the castle has been on the other end in preparations for our departure. When we are gone, a whole army of different workers will take over the castle to do different reparations. Everything will have a full paintover, and a lot of the rooms are going to have new decor and furniture. Now is the perfect time for everything to happen, as we are leaving for the next 6 months, maybe even more if we decide to visit more than we originally planned - which both guys have insinuated more than once they really want to. Chase because he wants to show his face, and mine, and Blaze because he is utterly curious about how people are living, surviving and what we can do to help.

I have been divided between packing for me, the girls, the guys, the babies and myself, while being a fulltime baby mother, mate, Queen and mother to the girls. It has been crazy, but wonderful at the same time. We have worked together as a family and the guys have been so great at helping anyway they could. They know I’d rather have them take Callum and Ashilia, playing, changing and feeding them, rather than try to pack something. In that sense I’m very OCD, and I need to know everything is as it should be.

At the same time as we have had a crazy busy time here, I got word from my mother through the communications crystal, that there’s been a tragedy at the pack. I asked if they needed me to come home? But she smiled and said I was home. I shook my head, looking her in the eyes. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

"Mom! Do Maze need me there?"

"No, darling. He needs to grieve his loss, and so do you."

"But the funeral."

"Will be held, and we know you are here in spirit, but you have a Kingdom to run, and we all know this."

"Can I see him?" Her eyes cloud over, and a moment later my distraught and sobbing brother is in view on the crystal. My heart breaks at his loss, and I feel how the emptiness fills my own heart.

"Maze! Mom says I shouldn’t come back, but do you need me?" His tearful eyes look at me, his lips tremble and he breaks down completely.

After they all got back from our wedding the blessing of Callum and Ashilia, they landed in a battlezone.

Rogues had heard word that they were not there, and they tried to overrun the pack. Blaze threw himself directly into the fray, and mom and dad organized their warriors at the pack. In the forest he’s fighting three rogues at a time, when he hears the piercing scream of a woman. He recognizes her voice, and when he gets to her, her scent invades his senses. On the forest ground is Mira Rose, dying and bleeding. Maze picks her up into his arms, running towards the pack to get her to the healers, but it is too late. As he is running, she takes her last breath and the pain of their bond breaking completely almost kills him. Mom and dad feel him go unconscious, and I tell them at the same time exactly I passed out, out of nowhere here. Now we know what happened.

They find him in the forest, Mira still in his arms. They take them both back to the pack, where Maze has been grieving ever since, isolating himself from everyone and hiding within his rooms.

"I need you, Amber. But your Kingdom needs you more. I know you are here, and all I ask is for you to have your crystal on you at all times, please." I nod, a tear sliding down my cheek.

"I promise. In the meantime, Maze, I’ve heard how you have pushed everyone away and hid yourself from the pack! You need to stop doing that, and show your face. They all know who she was to you, and everyone understands, but you are their King for goodness sake. I gave you that power and title because you were born to lead and rule, but you need to stop feeling sorry for yourself, and start to be the King I know you can be. I will come back there and kick your ass!" He gives a small smile and promises to at least talk to mom and dad for now, which I have to accept.

"Amber, honey, are you okay?" Chase asks, looking at me in concern. Mom called the day after they came home, and it’s been three days now and I keep catching myself staring into space, completely dropping what I was doing. Chase and Blaze have noticed as well, forcing me to talk to them, listening with compassion and empathy. They did not know Mira, but they understood how she was my childhood bestie, and Maze’s mate. I have not been close to her since she abandoned my brother on his birthday almost a year ago, and in fact I have not spoken to her at all. Still it seems she has left a giant empty hole in my heart, because I at least knew she was alive somewhere and I hope she would come back to us at some point.

"Sorry, I was just thinking of my conversation with Maze and mom again." Chase puts Callum down into the crib, standing and hugging me tight.

The sob surprises me, but then I just break down. I have not cried yet, but the pain is just so real right now. I feel guilty. Guilty for not looking for her, not trying to get her back to Maze. I should have done more, and maybe she would still be alive and happy with my brother. I feel guilty for being happily married to my mates, a mother to both big girls and infants, while Maze is suffering from literal heartbreak. Every emotion from the last three days rakes through me at this moment, and Chase just holds me close, cooing in my ears and running his hands up and down my back.

The door opens, and in a rush of movement, I’m in the arms of both my guys. They hold me close between them, letting me get everything out. They don’t say anything, they just let me cry it out.

When I have no tears left, they lead me to the couch, sitting me down between them. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Are you feeling better, little moon? Do you wanna go to the funeral? We can postpone our travel until after." Blaze says, Chase nodding and looking at me with so much pain in his eyes. I know it’s killing them seeing me so sad, as I feel the same way the other way around.

"I’m better, and no. We are sending the bouquet, and I have my crystal on me at all times. I will go back there, but not right now. He needs to grieve and I can’t do anything mom and dad are not already doing." They nod, holding me close again. I sigh against them. We have had such a hurry to get things done, times like these where we are just together have been few and far inbetween.
