Amber’s POV
I can hear people shouting orders, and some are shouting in anger, but I do not have time to react to them. Josephine keeps throwing fireballs from above, and she doesn’t keep to one position for more than a second. I keep deflecting them, not wanting to kill her or hurt her too badly.
"Is that all you got, huh? Some Queen you are. I will enjoy killing you and that devil’s hybrid spawn you are carrying." Josephine screams from above me. I froze for a moment. How did she know I’m pregnant? I didn’t tell anyone. Then I think back, and I did tell someone. I told my family. Perhaps one of them told someone, and then that someone told someone. My head is spinning. So it is common knowledge that I’m pregnant. Well fucking great. As if this wasn’t hard enough when I thought it was a secret.
’Amber! What are you doing? You need to fight! Fight for us, for our babies and for you. Comeone, baby.’ Chase’s voice screams in my head and I look around. The barrier to the outside is still in place, so how is this possible? I don’t have to ask to get an answer. ’When Josephine broke the rules, all of the protective magic preventing you from communicating with someone outside went down. Now DO SOMETHING! Show them who the Queen of Fire is!’
I shoot a look at my mates and my daughters, dodging another round of fireball from my new enemy. Before she was just a nuisance, but now?! She wants to kill me, my family and my entire species.
"So, this is how we are going to do this, Josephine?! I will give you one chance to surrender yourself, before I will kick your ass so hard the doctor will have to dig it out from your stomach." Josephine laughs that manically laughter again.
"You are not a Dragon, and only Dragons have the power of fire. What are you going to do, huh? Beg me with big doe eyes and tell me I’m a bad girl. Please. You are dead." She sends streams of really hot firelightning my way. This is it! I gave her a chance. I can hear the crowd roar with anger at her breaking the rules of a sacred challenge, and now is my chance to show these good for nothing purist snobs who I am once and for all.
"Everyone, I gave Josephine a chance to surrender. Now I’m going to show her and everyone else who doubts my reign as Queen of Dragons, Werewolves and Magic Folk." I call for my inner fire, making it spread through my entire body. Every inch of me is burning, and my eyes are glowing with magic. I then call for the divine silver magic, along with my family magic and the powers of a Queen. All the colors swirl together, blinding anyone who is looking directly at me. Josephine gasps when my fiery form looks at her. "I am the Queen of Fire!"
Shooting balls of magic fire directly at Josephine, she tries to deflect to discover too late she can’t. My flames do not react to anyone but me, and they always reach their target. They snake around her woman in the air like small orange, silver and purple snakes, burning and scorching her wherever they touch her. She screams in pure agony, begging me to call them back, but I do not let up. I made the mistake of being merciful to an enemy before, and it almost cost me everything.
I force my enemy to the ground with all my fire snakes. She can’t hold up the concentration to keep levitating while being burned and scorched. On the ground I call all of them back, keeping my fire visible for everyone watching. Josephine is panting on the ground, sitting on her knees and hands. She looks down, and I await what she’ll do next. I’m not naive enough anymore to think this little lesson will have her surrender, and I can feel the building of an attack within her. She keeps sitting on all fours, looking down and when ten minutes has gone by, I start to question my original thought. Ignis however is sure she’s not finished, and she has an idea what is going to happen.
I turn my back to my slayed enemy, wanting to address my people. Everything is still being transmitted to the other parts of the realm, and I need to talk to all of them. Explain and plead with the remains of the rebellion to stop this futile war against people who only want them the best. The second I turn my back on her, the pressure of her attack builds to another high. I know it is coming, and I am doing my best to ignore it. If I’m right and the crowd is really on my side, then they will warn me when she makes a move. I open my mouth to speak, when someone yells "watch out!"
I swirl around on my toes, my hands up and just as I face her again her final attack hits my hands. She’s conjured everything she has, but as soon as it hits my hands the fire recognizes me as the true yielder of the Hell Fire, and the only elemental in the realms. It greets me like an old friend, caresses my hands and turns on its caster. Before any of us can do anything the fire returns to Josephine and burns her to ashes. She doesn’t even scream, taken by surprise and then she’s gone. I know the threat to my life is gone now, but I never wanted it to end this way.
The crowd goes quiet, and I call my flames back. They disappear, leaving me to stand there all alone. I feel cold, even though I’m cold. Maybe it’s really a feeling of being alone. Then someone yells something, but the noise from what just happened has me deaf to all else. It’s not before I feel a hand on my shoulder, I hear the crowd and they are.. Cheering. I look around, Berion at my side. The crowd is cheering and yelling my name. When I face them, every single one goes down on one knee, even those who followed Josephine this morning. freewēbnoveℓ.com
