Chapter 152: Chapter 152 Serious Allegation
Amber’s POV
As the Judge is talking I feel Chase’s heartbeat rise slightly. He’s nervous. Wait, how did I know that? It’s as if I can feel the guy’s heart rate through my body. Like a second and third pulse running through me. I wonder if this has anything to do with their new eye color as well? Dad explained this to me when I was a little pup, telling the story of where mom marked him and how he gained the status of King through her and her powers of magic. I always adored and looked up to both my parents, but especially my father. He kept being the calm, collected, and grounded man he always was throughout our childhood and teenage years, when mom became more and more distanced. No wonder if she was keeping my mates from me - that’s pretty strong magic to keep going through the years.
I zone back in when the Judge talks directly to me, and I bow my head at his praise. Not really sure if it is praise or just old sane logic. But whatever the case, the oldtimer seems to have gotten himself into the modern day.
"With this said I call forward the former men of the royal guard, who are here to be tried for having released royal and noble prisoners, brought to prison for treason." Judge Blackstone says, his voice hard as the stone his family is called after. Tristan and two of his men escort the prisoners to the courtroom, and people mumble together. Mom follows them with her eyes, her facial expression dark and murderous. I wonder how she’ll look when Gia and Callus are brought forward.
"Jasper, Hallan, Nexus, Esras, and Merion, you are all here under the claim you helped the former King and his associates to flee from prison. How do you plead?" They all look to our side of the courtroom, some of them with a guilty look, and two of them looking hateful.
"We freed the King and his Queen and her daughter." One of the hateful ones says in a confident voice.
"Some of us hadn’t a choice." One of the guilty looking says, getting an elbow in the ribs from his comrades.
Melody stands looking intently at the men, then she turns to me with tears in her eyes.
"Those three..." She points to the hateful ones. "They drugged the other two because they needed to be five to have the mission to work. They used the imperial flower to make a mind drug that had the two over there think they were saving you mom. They are innocent. They only woke when they were apprehended and sobered up in prison." Judge Blackstone sends Melody a piercing look, as if he is not sure how to handle his Princess having interrupted his courtroom.
"That is a serious allegation, young lady."
’Melody, how do you know?’ I mind-link her. Perks being a royal and her legal mother. We signed their papers this morning, and had them legally adopted! The girls were over the moon, and we had a small celebration over breakfast. No one else than my parents and Berion knew we were doing this, so it’ll be a surprise for later.
"Their thoughts are clear as day, mom.’
’You are telling me you are reading their minds?’
’No, of course not, I’m reading everyones.’ She states this and gives me a pointed look. Already so sassy. I’m kind of dreading what’s coming in the future when they have acclimated completely.
"Mom, their souls are clear. There is no shadow." Eline whispers to me, pointing at the two from before.
"Queen Amber, an explanation please." I sigh and rise. I trust my daughters completely and if they say those two are innocent, then that’s what they are.
"I apologize to your excellency, for the interruption, but my daughters have special powers. As I am sure, you have heard Melody and Elina are shadow dragons." A gasp travels through the crowd. I guess not all knew that. "And they are gifted beyond what we can imagine. Melody has read the thoughts of the three sending me death stares." Chase stands on one side of me, as Blaze does the same from the other side, both having a hand on their daughters.
"She says they drugged the other two with the imperial flower, which is a mind drug.."
"I know what it does, and I know it is highly illegal and banned from the dragon lands. Are you sure it was the..."
"They have no shadows in them.." Elina says, her eyes blazing with impatience. The Judge lifts an eyebrow.
"Shadow?"
"They have no evil. Them.." She points. "Are full of the shadow. But they have none." Tears flow down her cheeks, and I pick her up.
"My Lord, if I may. My mother is in the crowd today, and she has the ability that none can lie in her presence. May she help with this issue?" I ask politely, and Blackson drums his fingers on the table.
"Alright then, if she must."
Mom stands before the men and they spill everything. As my daughters have said, the two; Jasper and Merion had not known what they were actually doing before being thrown to prison and going through withdrawal from the drug.
"Hallan, Nexus, and Esras, you are all sentenced to death by hanging and burying. Your souls will never find their way back to our ancestors." Judge Blackstone announces, and their mates are crying for justice, but in my book they already got it. Then there is the sentence about Jasper and Merion. They are technically innocent, but they also did help Callus, Gloria, and Gia to escape.
"My Queen, since you were the one affected by the escape, I will allow you to come up with a sentence that isn’t death for those two." Judge Blackstone says, and I nod seriously.
I mind-link with my mates for a couple of minutes, before concluding together.
"We, The King, Prince, and I, agree on giving them the freedom to be with their families. They have to do community service for the children and elders where they live, and they are prohibited to come near the castle for the next twenty years." I say, as I look at the men. We laid extra weight on Elina saying they have good souls. The Judge looks at me like I’m crazy, and shakes his head.
"You are lucky our new royals are decent beings. I sentence you to do community service, while living with your family. You also need to repay a fine to the royal family."
’Give the money to the community where they live, My Lord. They have paid enough being in prison and in this courthouse.’ I mind-link Blackstone, and he relays the altered terms. freёwebnovel.com
The men thank us, and I tell the guards I wish to meet them after the trial is done, so they are not sent away immediately.
I look at my watch and the court has already been going on for three hours. Time goes both slow and fast - if that even makes sense. The Judge seems to think the same thing.
"We’ll have a small recess before Helenius, cousin of the King, will be tried." So, he did get caught. Interesting.
People scatter, and my parents walk with us to the small private room for the local royals.
