Chapter 151: Chapter 151 The Trial

Chase’s POV

After a good night’s sleep, all three of us feel refreshed. We rescued Amber late in the afternoon, the day after that fateful dinner, and then we went back to our room after Blaze and I took care of my father. He went to one of the magical enforced cells, just like Gia. I made sure Tristan knew only to station loyal members of the royal guard outside their cells, so we don’t have a repeat of past events. I need them to stand a fair trial in front of our people and the other royals. Both Queen Mina and Daron’s mother were in cells with magical enforcement as well.

None of them knew what had happened, other than we came back with an unconscious Gia and then the next day a defeated Callus. My aunt made sure to reach out to the rest of the rebellion, telling them we had apprehended Callus, and that I was willing to meet with all of them and make a treaty. We need peace in our Kingdom, and with Amber and Blaze by my side, we will ensure there will be peace from here on out.

We also made sure to start an investigation to find those guard members who had helped them to flee in the first place, and so far we had found five members. They were apprehended and put into a regular cell, also to face trial.

After Amber fell asleep with me and Blaze, I got out of bed, while Blaze cuddled her closer so she didn’t wake. Being marked by both her mates, and marking us back while mating with both mates. She was an absolute rock star and I was so proud of her!

I went to the guest rooms down the neighboring hallway, got to Abigail’s and Matthew’s door, and knocked. Matthew opened with a smile, and gestured for me to come inside. In the bed, both of my daughters were sleeping like angels, and I lifted an eyebrow at them. Abigail shrugs, a small smirk playing on her lips.

"We couldn’t just let them go back to their room, which is right next to yours, and be sure you were finished. I see the transfer of the royal powers has been completed. So, you boys marked her at the same time, huh?" I chuckle, not knowing what she is talking about and how she knows.

"Our rooms are soundproofed, like every other room in this castle. And how did you know about the marking?" She gestures at the mirror in the room, and when I go there I see my eye color. My eyes are now a mixture of their own color with light purple around the outside edge and orange around the pupil. I lift an eyebrow again, while Matthew laughs.

"Does Blaze have this as well?"

"He does. He is her mate as much as you are, and you are both royal by blood so you will share a fraction of her soul each and have different magical powers from our bloodline now."

Matthew clears his throat, chuckling.

"As we weren’t sure when you’ll be done, and didn’t want them to overhear anything, we thought they would interrupt if they heard."

"A valid point your Majesty," I answer, while they both give me a look of disapprovement.

"It’s just Abby and Matt, Chase. You are our daughters’ marked and mated mate, and these two cuties are your children. When are you adopting them?" I laugh and say I already had the papers drawn up. We just need to sign them.

The next morning I awoke to giggling from the adjacent door. Amber is sprawled out across both Blaze and me, and then I feel the bed dip. The girls crawl up to us, waking both Amber and Blaze as well. We lay there for a couple of minutes, cuddling and enjoying each other’s company before the day had to start. I explain what I discovered with our eye color and mate bond and right enough -Blaze’s eyes are also tri colored now.

After dressing and breakfast, Amber went to Oron’s room. She comes back just in time for the trial and she is seething in anger. I try to mind-link her, but she shakes her head.

’I’ll tell you during the trial. There’s something else at play than just being part of a conspiracy.’ She links back. I can see on Blaze’s face he heard her as well.

We are sitting in the trial room. Blaze, Amber, the girls, and I are placed to one side in the chairs for the reigning royals. All Kingdoms have a room like this in one wing of the castle, but they usually stand empty as they are only in use when the criminals are noble or royal.

People are finding their seats, the other royals, Abigail and Matthew included, are sitting in the front, and then the nobles behind them, and at last some of the regular people from my Kingdom, amongst them my aunt and her associates. They look around the hall, and their eyes land on me and my family. I bow my head at them to show respect, and they seem surprised at my gesture, bowing their heads back and mumbling together.

The whole room stands when the Judge enters the room. He’s an old dragon who loves the law more than anything. He has been one of my father’s allies, but as I talked to him yesterday he made it clear he did not condone my father’s behavior as it was in direct contradiction to the laws.

"All rise for Judge Blackstone." The clerk says, even though the whole room is standing. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"Sit down." He barks, as he does the same.

"We are here to stand trial of alleged traitors of the West Dragon Kingdom, but first I have something to say. I have been a close associate to the former king for many years, but as I have heard of his recent actions, I will distance myself strongly from that former friendship. I have never been a big speaker for breaking tradition, and I have always said we need to stick to our own." He sends a side eye to me and my family, and I feel my heart sink into my stomach. Maybe it was a mistake to bring him into this trial, despite him being the oldest and highest of our Judges. I couldn’t bring in Berion, as my father’s supporters would claim unfair play. This is why I asked Judge Blackstone. He has always been very strict, but fair. As a kid, I was a little afraid of his hard exterior but as I grew older that fear changed to respect.

"But as I have watched our new King with his Queen, I must retract my statement. She’s been thrown to the fire and walked through it with grace and respect. She knows about our ways, and has been nothing but friendly towards those who wanted to remove her. She’s truly, in my opinion, a Queen worthy of ruling the West Dragon Kingdom." He looks at Amber with respect, and she bows her head to show her appreciation knowing she can’t show any more emotion than that.

At this moment I couldn’t be more proud of her! Of us! We’ve come so far in such a short amount of time, but the troubles and tribulations are not over yet. We need to work together, and this trial is the first step.
