Chapter 148: Chapter 148 Attack and Rescue
Blaze’s POV
As we wait for the hour to be up, dragon mages and witches arrive with small cloth pouches of different uses. They are color coded, and we all get a belt with two of each; pink for itching and rashes, yellow for blinding, green for vomiting violently, blue for sleep and black for instant death. We are cautioned to only use the black ones in absolute danger, and never to get hit ourselves. They will kill anyone and anything that comes in contact with the powder.
After the mages, Merida shows up with some men I haven’t seen before, and with her is Glaciel.
"We are not sitting this one out! She is our Queen and our best friend! We are fighting." Ezra seems reluctant to let Merida participate, but that is only until one of the men informs him she is the fiercest fighter they have in court. Glaciel looks at Chase.
"My powers can help!" She pleads, and Chase sighs.
"Stay with Merida, and out of trouble. I don’t want to explain to Tristan how his mate got herself killed down here." She nods gratefully and goes to stand with Merida and her entourage.
On the ding of the hour, Chase tells us it’s time to attack, but then he pales.
"Chase?"
"The doors are made of solid rock. We need.."
"Let me through peasants. It’s time to shine." Ezra bellows from the back of the crowd waiting with us. Tristan has sent more fighters to our location, making sure to have enough with him as well. One of them brought a little crystal ball for communication - I call it the ball call, but not sure that will go well with Chase at the moment, so I kept my mouth shut. Loch however appreciated my wit wholeheartedly. I was not sure we needed more, seeing the crowd we had already gathered down here, but I guess the merrier, so we could get our mate home safely quickly.
We soon find out it was not necessary for Tristan to take anyone with him to the border. The guard there forgot to mention Abigail and Matthew had brought a small army of their own, because; "no one kidnaps our daughter and grandchildren without reaping the consequences!" I chuckle when he relays the information through the ball call, and then chuckle again at my name for this weird thing.
Ezra shifts into his massive bear/wolf mix, and we all move back to give him space. He is giant, and has to stand hunched to fit into the underground corridor. Then Tristan says they are going to the doors above ground, which is carved into the side of the cliff. We end the ball call, and Ezra goes to town on the rock doors on our end. After a few minutes resisting his efforts, the doors come crumbling down into small heaps of dust and stone. Ezra growls and kicks one of the piles. He keeps kicking until there is a path for us to go.
The noise must have been violent inside the rock fortress, because as Ezra runs first, his roar of anger echoes down to us, and we prepare ourselves for the encounter of the defenders. Chase has his aura on full blast, making everyone in close proximity sweat bullets.
We ran in head first, only to find the hallway empty.
"Didn’t any for us, big guy?" I laugh, while looking up at Ezra. He snorts an answer, and I shake my head with a smile. Then yelling from all around us sounds through the hallways and corridor inside.
"They are inside. Coming from the underground."
"No, they are coming from the cliff side."
"We’re surrounded."
"Get the prisoner." At the word prisoner, Chase takes off in the direction of the last voice. I yell for the others to capture as many as they can alive and kill those who resist too much. Running after Chase, I imagine every outcome possible, even then one where Amber is dead. I don’t want to, and I don’t think she is, but I have to prepare myself. I have to have the thought actively in my mind, so I can support Chase in that case. I know he hasn’t thought about it, and I know he will be devastated and out of reach in his grief if that is the outcome at the end of all this. I just hope I underestimate her and her powers.
As we round the corner in the direction of the voices, some of the defenders round on us. They were running in the same direction, but at the sight of us they decided to stop and fight. Chase burns everyone he comes in contact with, and I stay behind him, calling for the water just outside the walls. It listens to me, coming in force and breaking more of the mountain side in the process.
I blast the enemies with the water, knocking them unconscious and leaving them on the floor.
As all the enemies are eliminated for now, we move forward, but stop dead in our tracks when a scream so loud it shakes the ground echoes through the air. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"WHERE IS SHE? SHE IS OUR LEVERAGE OUT OF HERE." We exchange a look, and run even faster. If Amber is gone from the cellar it can only mean one thing, she’s escaped or kidnapped for the third time. Goddess I hope it’s not door number two.
We round another corner when Chase stops and stands like a statue. I almost ran into him, it’s so sudden. His eyes are clouded over, and I wait rather impatiently for him to finish this kind of rude min-link. Keeping an eye out for more enemies to take down, and occasionally checking if he is done.
It feels like a lifetime before Chase finally relaxes, and smiles. His eyes find mine, and the unspoken questions are many.
"My aunt is with Amber. She caught my father and killed Gloria. We need to go to them."
"Your aunt? As in my aunt as well?"
"Yeah, aunt Rose. She’s the leader of the rebellion."
"There’s a rebellion? Hold up one fucking moment...."
"I WILL NEVER GIVE YOU BACK THAT POWER! NEVER!" The cry is not to be mistaken, and then the ground shakes again. "WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTERS?" The question is followed by a sinister and cold laughter that stops abruptly. Once again I find myself running, but before we can get there, Abigail yells again, "COME BACK YOU COWARDS!"
As we enter the prison side of the fortress Abigail and Matthew come out to face us.
"She’s not here." Chase shakes his head.
"My aunt is with her, come on." We speed walk to where Amber allegedly is at, all the while reports of victory reach our ears.
Loch, who has been on the forefront of my mind through the battle growls in satisfaction and settles in the back. His antenna is out for his mate, and as we get near he moves in circles. Crazy bastard. In a sideway to a main corridor we see a large figure laying over a smaller one, and then one sitting to the side. It looks weird, but then her scent hits me. She smells heavenly, more so than usual and Loch is going crazy in my mind. freēwēbnovel.com
’She’s going into heat.’ He growls, and I suck in a breath. Oh fuck no! Chase’s eyes are clouded again, but this time it’s lust and not a mind-link.
"She’s almost in heat." I whisper to Abigail before I feel myself get lost in her. She’s in her wolf form and despite that, she’s the most sexy thing I ever saw! I don’t care what she looks like, she’s mine, ours, and I need to sink my teeth and my dick into her, not necessary in that order.
"Matt, go to Amber, boys you are staying here." With that I feel wind chains tie me to my place, and Loch growls and snarls in my mind. We want our mate, and we want her now!
