Chapter 127: Chapter 127 Hurt
Amber’s POV
The next morning I am awakened by Merida and Glaciel storming into my room. Behind them is the lady’s maids Chase assigned the day I came here in a more calm manner. They look at me, as they always do, as if I am a usurper of the throne and they are only helping me because they think I will tell Chase if they don’t. To be honest I would love for them to leave me alone.
"Where’s the fire, ladies?" I ask groggily. Glaciel is paler than normal, which for her is a feat, and Merida looks like she’s going to kill someone.
"Uhm, did you and the Prince have a falling out?" Glaciel ask, her eyes wide and her hands trembling.
"No? We haven’t talked since dinner last night, and then he had ’important work’ to do. It didn’t require my presence, so I came here and couldn’t sleep. Blaze came in the middle of the night to talk, but I guess I fell asleep." I tell them, sitting up now. Something about the way they are looking at each other is setting Ignis and I on edge.
"What happened while I slept?"
"Miss, we really need to get you ready. The King and Prince have requested your presence in the throne room at once." One of the lady’s maids says with an attitude. I shoot her a glare, that is not lady like, but I don’t care at this point. Something’s going on here. Merida and Glaciel seems scared and angry, and the lady’s maids seems smug.
I roll my eyes, getting out of bed. ƒrēewebnovel.com
"I will get myself ready. Get out!" I tell the maids, not wanting to look at their smug faces while getting clothed. They courtesy with a smirk, turning to walk out.
"And please tell the King and Prince that I kicked you out because I refuse to be helped by unprofessional and racist maids." I say as I slam the door in their faces.
I hurry to get myself ready, without missing a beat on how to dress in formal court. They are obviously trying to blitz me to be underdressed and unprepared. Ha! They will have another thing coming.
"So, what made you two so murderous today?" I ask, while braiding my hair.
"My mother and sister arrived at court around sunset. They say the Prince personally invited them to stay here for a while, and he has not left my sister’s side since they walked through the door. My mother is acting as if she is the Queen, bossing the staff around and trash talking the other nobility." I freeze as the words leave my new friend’s mouth. Ignis growls in my head, her whole body is tense and she is already prepared to kill the bitch.
’Easy, Ignis. We need to know what’s going on before coming to conclusions.’
’You do that, then I’ll take care of that mate stealer.’
’We can’t kill her. She’s Chase’s guest, and we are going to be grace itself. If he thinks he can get under our skin by flaunting a new girl in our face, then he has the wrong person.’
’Uh huh. One wrong step and she’s dead.’ Ignis retracts into the depths of my mind to observe, but I know she’s on edge. So am I.
"Why would he invite her? What’s her name, and your mothers?" I ask in a hurry as we walk down the corridor. People stop and courtesy at me, but not without snide remarks as I walk by them.
"I heard he catch you with your other mate in the night, and the two of you seemed cozy." Glaciel starts.
"So he’s jealous and trying to make you jealous as well?! That’s a petty move even for him." Merrida pipes up on my other side. Glaciel nods, agreeing.
"Their names are Gloria and Gia. Gia is my half-sister, and very sneaky and cunning. Always able to play the innocent, and insulting so hidden you don’t know what happened until it’s too late." Glaciel says, while we reach the doors to the throne room.
Blaze is waiting outside, his expression blank. I can, however, feel the turmoil inside him. He’s feeling angry, sad and guilty.
’He came to your room after you fell asleep. I was tucking you in, but he took offense to us having alone time, even though I tried to explain the situation to him. He stormed away.’ Blaze mind-links. I lift an eyebrow, silently asking him if he wants to escort me to the King and Prince. He smiles, understanding where I’m going with this. Two can play this game, and the Prince chose the wrong lady to play it with! I grew up at court and have encountered every snake and sweet talker in the textbook - including scorned females who think they deserve more than they do.
The doors open, and Blaze takes my arm in his. Merida and Glaciel walks behind us, showing their support to me.
As we walk down the long way to the thrones, I take in the two new women sitting on smaller chairs beside the King and Prince. The girl is as dark as her sister is light. Glaciel is a natural platinum blonde, fair skin and pale blue eyes, as her sister has tanned skin, dark curls and dark eyes. She looks like a mixture between the King and her mother.
The girl smirks as I walk towards them, her hand going to my mates. Chase doesn’t take his hand away, and I feel like a hot knife pokes through my heart at the sight. I refuse to show it, but Blaze squeezes my arm in reassurance, probably feeling my emotions clear as day. I search my mate bonds, and I find the one to Chase blocked, which is another gut punch.
"Your majesty, your highness." I greet as I enter before the four of them, completely disregarding the women.
"Princess..."
"It’s Queen Amber, actually, King Callus." I interrupted him. His eyes go wide, and he looks at his son. So Chase did keep my secret. Well, secret out the bag then.
"Queen Amber. May I introduce Lady Gloria and her daughter Miss Gia!" The King says, trying to keep composure. freewebnøvel.com
"Ladies." I say, as I turn around and walk away. They only summoned me to the throne room, they didn’t say specifically why.
"Such impeccable manners, for someone so... Different." Gloria says, as I am walking away, and I turn again facing the woman. My enemy.
