Chase’s POV
I can’t believe she went away with that fake mate, and then she comes back with not only him and his bromance, but also some unknown girl who claims to be a princess. She won’t tell me where she’s supposed to be royal, or what kind of supernatural she is. She just follows my mate around like a lost puppy all day, trying to avoid the guardian and being polite to me and Aquaboy. Stupid water dragon. And he blamed his banishment on me, but I don’t even know him. I knew OF him, but up until Amber was basically being dry humped by him, I didn’t know HIM! Ugh!
What’s even worse is that Calor refuses to speak to me, and has gone deep in hiding in my mind. He’s angry at me for pissing off our mate, twice, apparently, at the stunt my father tried to pull at the mess and at the ’new’ mate coming in from the side. He told me he needed some time to think, and has had a block up ever since.
I toss and turn in my bed. Ever since Amber switched rooms, I haven’t been able to sleep properly. I can’t hear if anything happens in the night any more and it worries me. As much as I love my people and my family, I do not trust them with her. They are dead set in their minds about me following tradition and getting a chosen mate - chosen by my father. Someone like Glaciel. But she’s my friend. Or so I thought. Now she seems to be friends with Amber and has found her way into Amber’s inner circle with that Merida girl. They often sit by themselves to talk - girl stuff, they say.
They did that last week, which reminds me there’s so little time until the trial month is up. Fuck! She has to prove herself to my people, AND my father. She has to show she can be a good Queen, or I will be forced by any means to reject her. I won’t do that though. I made up my mind. If I can’t be King with Amber by my side, then I am not going to be King at all. This is the one thing me and Calor are in agreement on.
I give up on sleep, feeling my sweet Amber’s feelings. She is thinking about something that makes her feel everything at once; sadness, anger, and confusion. I lay there, swelling in feeling my mate and getting a plan together for the rest of the trial month. I need her and me to be on the same page, and for that, I need to show her I’m the perfect mate and she’ll only need me - ever.
’We can’t just make her reject her other mate, dude. She needs the both of you.’ Calor says.
’Oh, so you’re speaking to me now, huh?’ I ask sarcastically.
’Stop being a self entitled idiot, Chase! I had my reason to put up a block. Our mate is part of a bigger plan, and she needs both of you and Blaze. So, you need to get your act together, because right now he has the upper hand here.’
’Don’t tell me what to do, you overgrown reptile. She doesn’t need two mates, she only needs me. We’re her original mate - her first! And I WILL show her she only needs us.’
’Do not take me into account. I’m not going to take part in any such scheme. She’ll reject your ass, and you will deserve all the heartache you get from that!’ Calor retracts again and puts up another block. Fucking dragon. Why is he so against me winning over our mate? You do that, and I will leave your sorry ass!’ He snarks back at me, before disappearing completely. What the actual hell?!
Suddenly I feel Amber’s feelings switch completely, and now all she’s feeling is contempt, loved, and safe. What happened while I talked to Calor? Then it hits me. Fucking Blaze.
I get out of bed, walking to her bedroom. I don’t even knock, but just walk right in. She’s my mate too!
As I enter the room, Blaze has Amber in his arms. She’s sleeping in his arms with a small smile on her face, and I feel like my heart is shattered into a million pieces. I give them a death stare before turning on my heel and walking out.
"Chase, wait!" The moron to Blaze calls after me, but I will not! I hear someone run after me, and as I turn around the imposter himself stands behind me.
"It’s not what you think! I would never do that to her or to you. Her first intimate time should be with us both, but you and I need to start working together." He says with a sigh.
"I’m willing to put the past behind us if you are?" He continues, while thrusting a hand out. I look him in the eyes, my aura building under my control. I really don’t want to hurt him, but if he continues this charade I will.
"She can’t have us both. It’s not natural! And I know what I saw, Blaze. She was sleeping in your arms, and before that, her feelings had been all over the place."
"I know, dude. That’s why I went to her room! They kept being all over the place, and I wanted to comfort her and talk to her. I didn’t feel like you were there or on your way, so I did!" He says in defense. I shake my head.
"It doesn’t matter. I will not ever accept my mate to have another. And I know Amber would feel the same way if it was the other way around." I turn and leave the man hanging in the corridor, a plan forming in my head.
She made her choice, and I will make mine. I will never reject her. But she needs to feel how I am feeling at the moment - and I know just how to do that.
