Chapter 56: Saving The Damsel

"Everyone! Run!" Alex shouted at the top of his lungs.

The elites frowned, and Julian stepped forward to question, "Is something wrong—"

A violent scream tore through the forest.

Everyone’s eyes widened because to them, it was a familiar voice. It was none other than Naria who was at the very rear of the group.

Their heads twisted to the back, and Mia shouted, "Naria!"

Intending to check what was happening, she took a step forward, but before he could walk deeper into the forest, the wind slammed against her face, and Alex appeared before her.

"Sir Alex?" She mumbled with a hint of surprise and confusion.

In the back, a bead of sweat rolled down Ren’s face as he remarked inwardly, I couldn’t see him move...

How’s that possible? Even the leader wasn’t this fast after reaching E.

"All of you return to the city," Alex ordered while peering deep into the forest.

"What? How can we just run away when one of us is in danger?" Mia complained.

He glanced at her and the other.

The two groups, specifically the eliters, weren’t that close to one another, yet to save Naria, all of them were prepared for whatever was in there.

Alex smiled slightly and shook his head. "You cannot handle the thing in there."

"We have to try!" Harley commented with a raised fist.

"She is right," Wanir added while grinning widely, bloodlust seeping through his eyes.

Alex let out a sigh and turned his head toward Sasha, who was frozen in her spot. "What do you think? Can they do anything to it?"

Everyone turned their heads toward her, and she slowly shook her head.

Her lips parted, and she mumbled while trembling, "W-We are going to die..."

"What are you talking about?" Lukas asked with furrowed brows.

"It... It’s a monster," she answered darkly.

Everyone’s expression instantly turned somber.

Unlike Players who, upon reaching level 1, were given the choice of Mana Pool or Aura Heart, beasts had a chance to form theirs after reaching E.

The beasts that managed to do so were either called Mana or Aura Beasts.

However, during the process, there was a great chance of them turning mad, and if they fell to madness instead of Mana or Aura Beasts, they were called Monsters or Fiends, respectively.

And now Sarah had claimed that a monster had appeared within the innermost layer of Nyxare’s forest, which isn’t just absurd but utterly impossible – however, Alex knew that she was right, and the only reason he wasn’t rushing there was that Naria wasn’t in danger yet.

"You heard her," he said as he took a step into the deeper forest. "It would be better for you all to return because none of you is strong enough to help me."

Mia’s lips opened to argue, but before she could even say a word, Alex glared at her and said sharply, "Do not waste any more time. Leave."

A chill went down all of them. ƒrēewebnovel.com

Mia bit her lower lip and muttered darkly, "Free Sword were are leaving."

Alex looked at Wanir and said, "Take them out of here... if they don’t want to, then you may kill them."

A cruel glint passed through Wanir’s eyes.

He pulled out his axes and chuckled ominously. "Heh heh. Alright."

The Lightbearers looked at Wanir with dark expressions before all of them reluctantly turned around and began walking toward the city.

Good. Alex remarked inwardly and rushed deeper into the forest.

Naria stood hiding behind the trunk of a thick tree with her palms pressed tightly on her mouth to make sure that no voice could escape her lips.

A dozen steps away from her was a four-legged entity the size of a horse with deep red fur full of scars, four jagged fangs dripping with slimy black, a whip-like tail, and two bloodshot eyes.

Faint black mist revolved around it as it looked around in search of its prey, which had managed to slip by.

A-Am I going to die? I shouldn’t have come here...

She thought as tears gathered at the edge of her eyes.

No... I’m sure others heard me. They must be coming to rescue me; I just have to stay hidden. It’s a good thing that monsters lose most of their intelligence and hearing.

She inwardly breathed a sigh of relief, and suddenly, a crunch resounded beside her.

NO!

Her eyes snapped shut, and a shadow dwarfed her before lifting her off her feet.

Huh?

She opened her eyes and looked at Alex’s face while being in his arms.

What’s going on here?

She blinked a few times and asked, "Sir Alex?"

He looked at her, nodded, and said, "Don’t worry. You are safe."

"Oh..." A smile appeared on her face, which soon turned red as she thought deeply about her current situation.

W-Wait! Isn’t he totally embracing me right now? Hah... Why is my heart beating so fast?

Embarrassed by her thoughts, she shook her head and mumbled, "Stop being a dummy, Naria!"

What’s wrong with her? Alex wondered and stopped.

Seizing the opportunity, Naria jumped out of his arms and landed on her feet.

"Hah! I nearly died from embarrassment." She took a deep breath.

Alex turned his head to the back and stared into the forest.

He had made sure to make enough distance – however, the monster was still within the range of his innate ability to sense shadows.

"Thank you for saving me," Naria bowed deeply toward him.

He turned to her and said softly, "I had promised Lady Allura to make sure no harm comes to any of her members – you don’t have to bow to me." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Naria straightened her back and replied, "It doesn’t matter. You still saved me, and I am very thankful for that."

"Do not think much of it," he muttered and added as he turned around, "Return to the city."

Naria frowned.

"What about you?"

His lips stretched into a wide grin, and he said, "We have to return tomorrow, you know? Someone has to keep the place clean."

Her face turned confused. "What—"

Before she could even finish, he was already sprinting toward the monster.
