Chapter 55: Naria’s Melody
Following Naria’s lead, Wanir took out his twin axes and rushed towards the confused wolves.
He raised his axes and they began to glow red as he brought them down onto the nearest wolf.
His axes dug deep into its skull prompting it to let out a pained cry before its body fell to the ground like a marionette.
Wanir pulled out his axes, and blood spurted out of
The wolf’s skull and he moved toward the next wolf with a faint red mark on his forehead.
At the same time, Mia and Julian appeared within the pack of the Wolves.
Julian raised his hand toward a wolf and shouted, "Bind!"
A translucent chain shot out of his head and wrapped around the wolf’s leg.
The wolf instantly came out of its confusion but as it tried to move it found itself unable to do so because of Julian’s D-Rank Shackle Seal talent.
Mia leapt at the nearest wolf with her knight sword and as she closed the distance, a translucent golden layer with black cloud-like patterns appeared on her armor and sword.
A gale-cutting sound resounded throughout the area as Mia’s sword cut through the wolf like butter.
Almost immediately, a wolf lunged at her from behind with its maw wide open.
Julian saw it from the corner of his eyes and pointed at it. "Bind!" ƒreewebɳovel.com
A translucent chain shot out of his finger and coiled around the wolf’s maw.
The next moment, a sound similar to a vacuum space being suddenly filled echoed throughout the area following which the wolf’s head exploded mid-air.
Naria looked at her hunt with a wide grin and shouted playfully, "What do you think, Sir Alex?"
Alex shook his head and looked at Wanir with gleaming eyes.
Is it charged yet?
The faint red mark on Wanir’s forehead deepened with each wolf that he killed and after he killed three of them, the mark widened and red steam emitted out of his body.
"RAHHH!" Wanir roared, his foot dug into the ground and he shot forward like a red bullet with his axes gleaming scarlet.
A group of three wolves lunged at him at the same time however before they could even understand anything, Wanir’s axe chopped all of them into multiple pieces.
As expected of B-Rank Juggernaut talent. Alex remarked inwardly.
Though it seems like Mia still hasn’t unlocked the full potential of her B-Rank Spartan Blessing talent.
A few minutes later, the four of them finished the remaining wolves and returned to their previous spots.
"I did well, didn’t I?" Naria muttered proudly with her hands on her waist.
"Yes, yes," Alex mumbled and turned toward the elites.
"All of you have now seen each other’s talent in work, so what I want you to do is build strategies and synergy with one another because just reaching E won’t be enough to defeat the Dark Wolves."
"Huh?" Terror spread across Ren’s face and he muttered in panic, "I-I have to do all of this again?"
Alex flatly glanced at him.
"Yes you do, Ren."
Ren’s shoulders slouched down and a lost expression appeared on his face.
"Why must my life be so hard..?"
Hearing Ren, the others looked at him with annoyed expressions. Even Cassie who had felt bad for him was now staring at him as though he was a dirty rat.
Feeling the air turn tense, Alex clapped once and said, "We’ll continue from tomorrow."
Everyone nodded and turned around as they began their way back to Nyxare.
How are the talents even ranked? Alex thought while looking at Julian’s back.
According to Villain’s Ascension, talents were classified based on the amount of environmental mana they used for activation but that didn’t seem to be true for all.
Wanir and Mia both had B-Rank talents and anyone could tell that Mia’s talent was much superior to his.
I’ve always had this question since I started reading the webnovel...
Is there something else that determines a talent’s rank? Something like compatibility with the Player?
The more he tried to understand this, the deeper his frown became and suddenly, Naria asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Huh?" Her voice pulled him out of his reverie and he blinked twice before shaking his head.
"Nothing... I was just wasting my time thinking about something useless," he stated with an embarrassed smile.
"Oh!" Naria’s eyes became bigger with excitement and she said, "I do that all the time!"
He glanced at her with a smile and mumbled, "You do?"
"Yep." She nodded profusely and added, "I always keep worrying about my parents and little brother even though I know that three months here is just one month for them."
His expression darkened for a moment and he forced a smile.
"It must be because you love them so much that you can’t help but worry about them."
She blinked and scratched her cheek. "You are right..."
She observed him for a while and asked, "What about you, Sir Alex? Do you miss your parents?"
He froze in his steps.
She frowned and asked in a worried tone, "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing." He shook his head and sped up.
"W-Wait!" She called out with a dumbfounded expression and mumbled under her breath, "Did I ask something I shouldn’t have?"
Everyone flinched in surprise as Alex moved past them with clenched fists and a furious expression.
"What’s wrong with him?"
"How the hell would I know?"
"Maybe Ren should ask?"
"Are you stupid, Ren?"
A few steps ahead of them, he slowed down and took a deep breath.
"Isn’t it funny that even though this is my second life I am still an orphan and the people who are supposedly my parents are nothing but swindlers?" He mumbled under his breath, his tone furious.
"Calm down..." he whispered and closed his eyes for a moment.
The cold breeze of the near dusk cuddled his body and suddenly, his eyes shot open.
He swiftly turned his head to the back causing everyone else to halt.
"Was I mistaken?" He mumbled to himself.
His eyes opened wide as he sensed a monster much stronger than anything that they had witnessed till now.
"Everyone! Run!"
