Chapter 1949: Chapter 1949: Mirror World (26)
"Mhm."
The woman’s voice was clear and cold, dispelling the summer night’s heat.
"Have you finished changing?" Cheng Mu gritted his teeth and asked, feeling uncomfortable in this position.
"Yes."
Cheng Mu first took a cautious glance, confirming that Chuzheng had indeed finished changing, and breathed a sigh of relief before propping himself up by the bedside.
He rubbed his slightly aching leg, "Were you doing that on purpose?"
She knew he could see, yet she didn’t bother to cover up!
"If you think so, then sure."
"...What do you mean if I think so? The more he thought, the more upset he became. Cheng Mu asked aggressively, "Would you do the same for someone else?"
"No."
Those two words seemed to make Cheng Mu feel a bit better, "What... what did you mean by what you said earlier?"
"Which part?"
"Just..." Cheng Mu felt a little tense, "You said from now on I..." the last few words came out quickly and were indistinct.
Chuzheng understood.
"We’ll be together, is there a problem?"
"Why?" Cheng Mu raised his voice instinctively.
"Cheng Mu, why are you yelling in the middle of the night instead of sleeping? Come out and eat your meal, I’m afraid you’ll starve to death!"
Father Cheng’s voice followed soon after.
"I’m not hungry, I don’t want to eat," Cheng Mu responded to appease him, Father Cheng said a few things outside, but seeing Cheng Mu didn’t open the door, he finally had to leave.
Cheng Mu waited for Father Cheng’s footsteps to disappear, then looked at Chuzheng, "What gives you the right to say that? Did I agree?"
Chuzheng thought for a moment, "Do you agree?"
"I do not agree!"
"Oh." Chuzheng replied leisurely, "It doesn’t matter; as long as I agree, that’s enough." Anyway, your opinion is just for my reference.
"You..."
Cheng Mu probably had never met someone so brazen yet calm; he couldn’t utter a second word for a long while.
Have some shame!
Aren’t you supposed to be a girl!!
Cheng Mu took a deep breath, "From the beginning, you weren’t surprised by contact with me; you investigated me thoroughly, you... do you truly not have any other intentions?"
Chuzheng pondered for a moment, "Does wanting you count?"
Cheng Mu’s heart skipped a beat.
Looking across the mirror, Cheng Mu felt she was standing right in front of him, within reach.
Suddenly Cheng Mu said, "What’s the difference between you and Qu An?"
"No difference," Chuzheng’s fingers tapped lightly on the edge of the table twice, "We both want you, but I am more skilled than him." More importantly, you like me.
Even if you have no memory, you’ll come to like me again.
This is both my reliance and my luck.
Cheng Mu fell seated on the bed, asking blankly, "Then what am I? An object?"
Am I just something for you both to compete over, can I not belong to anyone just because they’re more skilled? Is my opinion not important? Can my future be decided by just a word from you?
"You’re very important to me," Chuzheng said softly, "Important enough that I can pay a price equivalent to life for you."
She wanted to know who this person was.
She wanted to have him.
Chuzheng had always been clear about what she wanted.
Her silence doesn’t mean she doesn’t care.
Cheng Mu stared at her blankly, through the mirror, clearly seeing into her eyes, finding his silhouette in the darkness there.
A sudden realization struck Cheng Mu’s heart, as if something had bumped into it, stirring waves of emotion, flooding to his limbs and bones.
In his daze, he heard the person across him speak slowly, "You are not an object, you are the mystery I wish to unravel."
"Get some sleep."
The mirror darkened as Chuzheng turned off the light.
Moonlight from outside fell in, faintly showing some outlines in the mirror...
Cheng Mu sat for a while, before lying down on the bed.
What is this supposed to be? Marking the territory, giving a slap and then a reward?
Cheng Mu, have some ambition!
Cheng Mu covered his face, feelings in turmoil, but he seemed to... like her.
-
Year 2030.
Chuzheng needed to go to the company, and when she got up Cheng Mu was still asleep, resting on his side with the air-conditioned blanket on his waist, seemingly not sleeping soundly.
Chuzheng exhaled, foregoing the bathroom in the room, going out to compete with Father Yuk for the bathroom.
Father Yuk was standing in the hallway with foam on his face, looking puzzled.
"Don’t you have one in your own room?"
"It’s broken."
"How could that be, let me take a look..."
"Dad, I’m done, you can use it," Chuzheng quickly finished and returned the bathroom to Father Yuk.
Father Yuk: "..."
Chuzheng went to the company for a meeting, and Dai Mi did not dare to bring up minor matters, not wanting to give a raise to his nemesis, who now smiles at him, making him wary.
After the meeting was over, it was noon, people left the office, and Chuzheng remained seated, looking through her phone.
She instructed someone to keep an eye on Cheng Mu’s situation at all times.
Just then, some messages came through with news on Cheng Mu.
Since Cheng Mu was not taken by Qu An, the entire future changed, leading to Cheng Mu’s appearance.
Chuzheng sifted through the photos sent from the other side.
Twenty-seven-year-old Cheng Mu, dressed in a suit, mature and steady, even more charming in appearance.
There was also an airport photo, showing Cheng Mu looking down at the documents in his hands while someone beside leaned in, saying something.
Very much a business-like photo.
But handsome enough.
The Good Person Card sure is good-looking.
Chuzheng saved the photo and casually set it as a screensaver, leaving the office in good spirits.
Dai Mi was still standing outside, and when Chuzheng came out, he trotted over obsequiously, "President Yuk, your previous work has been shortlisted, next you need to prepare for the subsequent competition piece, you..."
"..." Chuzheng sighed internally.
People bustling around, the sound of pages turning, the sweet fragrance floating through the air vividly reminded Chuzheng that it wasn’t over yet!
Chuzheng intuitively pulled out the main storyline from the game.
[Main Line: Player progresses to become an internationally renowned designer at 25%]
Chuzheng was stumped.
Chuzheng was about to close it when she noticed a small map had appeared below.
A green dot labeled ’Teammate’ was clearly marked on the small map.
Chuzheng: "..."
Forgot about that part.
Still have to help them find the president.
Why is it so hard for me!
Can’t you just leave the helpless and pitiful alone?!
This... doesn’t seem to be in the country?
Chuzheng hadn’t checked this out before, so she couldn’t be sure when this map appeared.
Anyway, when she first saw the task, it wasn’t there.
Chuzheng didn’t even know who this teammate was now, nor did she really care; after all, it wasn’t her duty, finding them would depend on luck.
Chuzheng sent Dai Mi away and then took care of Yu Shi’s follow-up before returning home.
Chuzheng didn’t need to do anything to Yu Shi, as long as she didn’t return her phone and recorded some things, Yu Shi wouldn’t dare act out in front of her.
Of course, for precaution, Chuzheng still had someone keep an eye on Yu Shi.
Anyway, spending money to resolve Yu Shi is not a bad thing, right?
Yu Shi seemed to have been scared by Chuzheng, not thinking about doing anything, locking herself at home once she returned.
