Chapter 17: "Ninety more to go...!"

"Boy...!"

Leo called out as he jumped down the tree.

"Time to go home..."

He informed the small boy as he picked up the two fowls and strung them over his shoulder. By then,it was already dusk.

Back in the lair, the two enjoyed the remaining baked sweet potatoes and the last two pieces of roasted meat from days ago.

After the meal,Leo decided to loot the two fowls.

"Finally,some eggs..."

Leo carefully stored the six eggs in the ordinary chest and left for his crafting corner. He picked up a circular large stone, and smoothed the surface, before finding a smaller stone that perfectly fit in his palm.

"Boy...!"

Leo called out.

"Bring me a bowl of grain from that sack..."

"Here..."

The boy brought over the grain, and Leo poured some on the bigger stone, before using the small stone to grind at it.

Ten minutes later,he had half a bowl full of a mixture of both chafff and flour.

"I did not think it would work..."

Leo was happy that the system had recognized the grinding stone. With the grinding stone,he could now turn some of the grain into flour.

"Boy..."

"I want you to grind a big bowl of grains into flour and pick out the chaff before heading for bed..."

Leo instructed the quiet boy.

"Tomorrow we are going to have pancakes..."

Leo announced as he helped the boy move the grinding stone next to the fire.

As for him,he went back to crafting.

He found two broad stones. Hours later, both of them were shaped into a perfect circle, but one was thick with a hole at the centre while the other was thin without a hole.

"It seems the system is yet to recognize the pan..."

Leo realized as he carried the thin circular stone to the small pit fire and placed it over the stones.

He waited for it to partially hit up,before he smeared some animal fat on it. As the animal fat sizzled,he took a small bowl and bit to eggs in it.

He also added some squeezed purple berries juice and half a chopped onion.

He bit the mixture before pouring all of it on the stone pan, letting it cook.

"Ninety more to go...!"

Leo exclaimed as the system recognized the successful crafting of the cooking pan.

"Have some of these..."

Leo served half of the scrambled eggs to the boy while he helped himself to the rest, before unrolling his sleeping hides and calling it a night.

System Alert: You have dealt critical damage.

The two system notifications were the first thing that Leo saw upon waking up,at first,he was confused, but he soon figured out the reason, which scared the hell out of him.

"Two uncommon ranked creatures..."

Leo felt a chill.

The last time an uncommon ranked creature had fallen into the pitfall,it had not only jumped out,but led other goats to chase him to his lair, putting up a tough fight.

Though he was not as strong back then as he was now,Leo did not think that he was in a position to tackle two uncommon ranked creatures at once.

"One problem at a time..."

Leo decided to not check on the pitfall trap. If he were right and the creatures that had fallen in were of the uncommon ranked, the two would be long gone. All he would find were traces of blood and probably broken stakes.

He let the boy sleep a little more as he busied himself with breakfast.

He took a big bowl, bit four eggs in it,added half a cup full of squeezed purple berries sap, some chopped onions and two small bowls of grinded flour.

Leo bit the mixture,as he added some boiled goat meat at intervals, untill he came with a thick consistent paste.

He lit one of the small fire pit and took out the stone pan.

He smeared some animal fat on the stone pan,and scooped some of the paste on to the pan.

Leo let the pancake cook to a golden brown on both sides. Minutes later, the boy was woken by the aroma of pancakes. There on the makeshift stone table was a small pile of pancakes. frёeωebɳovel.com

On the other small fire pit,Leo was currently boiling some grain into a thick gravy. He had used some goat milk and the red berries sap for taste.

He planned on having gravy and pancakes, for both breakfast and lunch.

"Morning..."

The boy greeted Leo as he rubbed at his eyes.

"Morning..."

"Go wash up and seat for breakfast..."

The boy quickly did as he was told.

Leo poured the thick gravy into two wooden bowls and placed them beside the pancakes. Steam rose slowly from the mixture, carrying a warm, rich smell through the small lair.

The boy rubbed his eyes as he sat up.

"Morning..." Leo said calmly.

The boy nodded sleepily but his eyes widened the moment he saw the food.

"Eat. We have work today."

The two sat on the hide-covered floor and began eating. The pancakes were thick and slightly sweet from the berries, while the gravy was creamy from the goat milk.

For a moment, the lair was silent except for the sound of chewing.
