Chapter 37: Chapter 37 - Waiting for a warrant

Vincent dressed very plainly this time in the morning. Part of the reason for that was he wanted to while the other part. He came out from his room and greeted Katherine and Nathan.

Nathan was still resting and decided not to take any work for this month. He only did it because of Katherine’s constant complaint.

"How is today? Are you going to be late?" Katherine asked.

Vincent nodded, his mouth filled with the fresh egg and fried rice Katherine cooked earlier. He coughed.

"Don’t speak yet, here." Katherine frowned and gave him a cup of cold water.

Vincent took the cup with a smile and drank it. "I think so. After I get the information from Silas, the captain will decide."

"Be careful." Katherine said with a worried filled face. She didn’t want to see another injured man in the place, especially someone she grew attached to.

"I will."

"Don’t forget about the C-Rank package I gave you." Nathan said from the side.

"I won’t." Vincent nodded. Vincent told them everything about his plan. He thought they all would reject the fact that he will now work with a criminal but surprisingly they agreed.

Nathan even gave him advice in dealing with that kind of person. Vincent took the advice to his heart. He was grateful for all the things the two did to him.

The lessons from Nathan were valuable. While, Katherine showered him with a motherly embrace.

Even in this world, he was blessed with wonderful people.

Vincent smiled and finished the meals quickly. He then grabbed his coat and left the building.

"Great work, detectives." The captain said, not looking up from the mountain of paperwork.

"The higher ups are asking me endlessly about it now we will have the result. I will give you two bonuses for this."

"Thank you, sir." Vincent smiled.

Jason was indifferent and aloof.

Ring....!

Vincent’s phone rang, the ringtone sounding throughout the office.

The captain put down the paperwork he was looking in and stared up. Jason also straightened his shoulder and waited.

Vincent quickly took out the phone and looked at the caller id. It was unknown but his instinct told him that it was from Silas.

He picked up the phone and put it closer to his ears.

The captain frowned and walked up from his seat and came closer to him, trying to pick up the faint conversation of Silas.

Jason was also doing the same.

Looking at the two middle-aged men trying to act like kids, Vincent smiled and chuckled inwardly.

"Are you alone?" Silas asked from the side.

"You know about it." Vincent answered. "Same old shenanigans."

"Alright, I will be brief." Silas muttered. "The best time to capture or kill the drug lord is this week. I will send a file right now. Goodbye, detective."

The connection cut off abruptly.

Vincent looked at his phone and smiled at the captain and Jason.

Captain Hugle sighed, rubbing his head.

Vincent looked down at his phone and got the file immediately after that. He yelled.

"I got it."

"Let’s chat. Connect your phone with the computer." The captain ordered, slapping his shoulder harshly.

Vincent flinched in pain and nodded. After connecting, he opened the file and saw a series of pictures.

The drug lord’s name is called Eric.

"That bastard." Jason cursed, remembering the drug lord.

Vincent refrained himself from asking and focused his attention on searching the file related to the killing of the high school students.

"There." The captain pointed at the picture.

50 pictures of Eric dealing with his henchmen. And the same henchmen going to the orphanage and killing.

"I can’t believe that kid got this kind of thing." The captain muttered.

"I told you, boss. Newly made drug lord influence is no joke." Jason sighed. "So we got the evidence of Eric being the mastermind. Issue a warrant for us, boss?"

"I know." Captain Hugle nodded with a low frown. "Vincent, sent those pictures to me. As for the rest, make a file in separate order. You can do it right? Well, it isn’t like you have a choice."

"I can, sir." Vincent said.

After sending the pictures to Captain Hugle, he left the office and went to his desk, boosting up the computer.

Vincent cracked his fingers and neck, preparing to glue his ass to the chair for a long time and started working seriously.

Captain Hugle hung up the phone and looked at Detective Jason.

In that second, he seemed to catch a whiff of the impending storm. No, he didn’t catch it, he invited it when he took the order from his superior.

"There will be a battle." The captain said.

"Tonight?"

"I don’t know. The higher up are checking the pictures I just send as we speak. Since the matter is delicate, it is going to take some time before the warrant arrives."

Jason nodded, clenching his fist tightly. It was to quell his emotions that had been left in an upheaval.

It was a rare event that involved capturing or killing the drug lord. His heart was spewing with agitated emotions. He was certain that the captain was thinking the same as him.

"If the warrant arrives, how should we proceed? To be honest, I think it is best to do it with fewer people. Eric is a big drug lord and his network spread deep into the government. I suspect that a lot of detectives here are in his pocket."

Captain Hugle sighed. He didn’t want to blame his men for doing this kind of thing. He understood the hard part of the job.

The pay and the work load of the detective was vastly different. It was a hard job, spending time and soul into the worst hell of humanity.

What if the detectives died on the field? Who will take care of their family?

They had to make some money even if that money came from the most despicable people.

But part of him wanted to yell at those detectives. Strange, how humans had two different emotions about the same topic.

His heart understood but his head rejected completely.

"Let’s wait for the warrant for now. Go to Vincent and help him sort out the file."

"Sure, boss." Jason nodded and left the office.

"Fucking hell." Vincent cursed. His voice booming loudly on the floor, earning him a yard glance of his co-workers.

Vincent smiled at them but Jason flipped them a middle finger.

"Done?" Jason asked.

Vincent nodded, standing up and stretching his stiff back, making a satisfying bone cracking noise.

"Yeah. How long did it take?"

"About 5 hours."

"Seriously. Curse that bastard. I hope he rot in hell." Vincent sighed.

"How many lists did you get?"

"Almost everything. The bastard did everything illegal in the world." Vincent said, pulling up the short lists of things Eric had done.
