Chapter 30: Chapter 30 - Heroes
Vincent ignored the group and walked toward the cute barista. She was doing her jobs, preparing the coffee beans and arranging the cups.
When she noticed him, she performed a professional and yet clumsy smile.
Her face was round but her big eyes were the most recognizable feature of her face. She appeared to be around 16 or 17 but Vincent guessed that she was much older than that.
"Hi." Vincent greeted.
"How can I help you?" She answered with a honey filled voice.
"An ice coffee. As for the details, do as you please, miss?"
"Alright. Please, wait at the table, I will serve you there."
Vincent nodded and walked away from the counter to the group who were chatting.
They sat on the table of six so one seat left for him to take. They all sensed him coming up and looked up.
Vincent’s eyes moved quickly, scanning every face.
Three women and two men.
Two of them wore the face of wariness. While, the other two were interested in the new face.
Only one of them wore a shock expression which she quickly hid. Naturally, the face belonged to Dawnstar.
Since all of them were wearing some sort of masks, Vincent couldn’t fully read their faces but their eyes told him enough. He didn’t need detailed reading.
"Can I sit down here?" Vincent said, pointing at the vacant seat. "I am new here so I don’t know the rules about this establishment."
The friendlier woman smiled and nodded at him. "Of course."
Vincent happily took the seat and drove into their conversation. freewёbnoνel.com
They were talking about their missions. For some reason, Dawnstar was acting like she didn’t know him so he followed her lead and acted like a stranger.
"I am ElectricLady." The earlier woman said her hero’s name. She then started to introduce her friends one by one.
"Werewolf, Dawnstar, Stoniy and finally the B-Rank here called RavenHeart."
"You don’t need to call me a B-Rank, Ele. It is embarrassing." RavenHeart said, playing with her long black hair. Her entire outfit was black and the fabric appeared to be soft.
Since they introduced themselves, it was natural that Vincent did as well.
"I am Vincent. I am not a superhero like you all but a detective."
"You must be good at that job." Werewolf said. He was a tall and muscular man. Even with the mask, Vincent noticed the shape jawline and predator-like eyes. "And you are strong."
"He is?" Stoniy asked from the side. He was a skinny man. Out of the five heroes here, he was the one that could blend himself in the street due to his outfit.
He wore a black tank top and military pants but his face was covered with a rocky mask, uneven.
"Yes, my instincts are yelling." Werewolf answered.
"Did your instincts tell me that I am dangerous? Physically or mentally?" Vincent asked, his interest rose.
"Physically."
"Wow." ElectricLady exclaimed, covering her mouth. "Did you think he is stronger than RavenHeart?"
"Hey, don’t ask like that. It is rude." RavenHeart interjected from the side.
"It is fine. I also want to know how strong I am?" Vincent waved his hand. He probably knew why Werewolf could see him strong.
Afterall, he still had the ability he copied from Hera. That was the one probably alerting Mr.Werewolf.
"Don’t take it the wrong way, Raven." Werewolf smiled. "The danger level around him is stronger than you."
"Wow."
Surprises came from many mouths. The most interesting reaction came from Dawnstar as she choked on the drink.
"Are you sure you aren’t a superhero?" ElectricLady asked, getting close to him.
"No, I am not. I am just a humble detective, trying to make a difference in the world. I am here because I want to make a connection with the heroes like my teacher." Vincent said earnestly.
"Your teacher must be famous if he knew about heroes." ElectricLady said.
"Indeed he is. But enough about me, why are you all here? Don’t you have the district to look after?" Vincent asked.
"We all took a rest just for today." Werewolf said.
The cute barista came with his drink. Vincent thanked her.
He tasted the drink and nodded in satisfaction. The cold drink erased the hotness in his stomach and energized his mind and body. Not that he needed it in the first place.
"Is today some sort of a celebration?"
"Is this a deduction of yours?" ElectricLady asked, her eyes perked with sparkles of interest.
"Haha." Vincent chuckled and shook his head. "Your imagination of a detective must be a superhero. It is not a deduction. I am just stating the obvious question."
"Ah..." ElectricLady nodded, disappointed. "Yes, today is a celebration. A celebration for RavenHeart for achieving B-Rank title from Hero association."
"I see. Congratulations." Vincent said to RavenHeart.
RavenHeart nodded and timidly said. "Thank you."
The conversation resumed without a hitch. Vincent mostly listened due to him being the stranger in the group. But he still added something to the conversation.
He knew most of the hero’s activities from the conversation. ElectricLady was the most likely one here so every word she spouted out from her mouth was information to Vincent.
But slowly, Werewolf also melted by his presence and became active.
Stoniy and RavenHeart were introverts of the group.
As for Dawnstar, Vincent saw through that she was having stress.
After 30 minutes, Vincent noticed his drink being empty. And so were most of the drinks and foods on the table.
So he stood up. "I will treat you guys to something as a celebration of RavenHeart and the meeting of ours. Name the thing you wanted to eat here."
"Free food." ElectricLady clapped her hands in delight.
Werewolf licked his mouth as well, displaying his power trait.
The two introverts were modest, declining his offer.
Vincent stood up and went to the barista.
Dawnstar also stood up, gathering the eyes of the four heroes. She smiled awkwardly behind the mask.
"I will help him carry the food."
"Sure." ElectricLady said, sensing something.
Vincent finished the order and noticed that Dawnstar was beside him.
"Please don’t tell them that I work for the government as my part time gig."
"Why? Will they bully you for that?"
"No, it is a personal reason. Please."
Vincent looked at her and thought for a moment. Obviously, he had no intention of revealing that to her friends but he wanted to tease her a little. So, he acted like he was pondering.
"Please." Dawnstar grabbed his shirt and pulled to her side. "Please."
"Don’t worry. Don’t worry. I won’t tell them."
"Thanks. You are a life saver." Dawnstar smiled and walked back to the group.
ElectricLady stared at her return, especially looking at her empty hands.
"Where are the foods?"
"Crap, I forget." Dawnstar smacked her forehead and returned back to Vincent’s side.
