Chapter 22: Chapter 22 - Alone and Deep kiss
Vincent and Hera sat in the white room. They both closed to each other, touching the shoulders but none of them voiced out and let it happen.
The tension between the two was visible.
Hera sighed and began to talk.
"Before I got pregnant with my daughter, I was a hero. A very good hero, I might add." She smiled. "I was flying through the clouds, covering the sky like the sun. I was the best and most powerful among them. I felt like I could take everything head on."
"And I take everything head on for the first time. And the second. The third. I thought I was invincible after that. I really did. But an incident occurred..." Her lips trembled and she closed off her ears. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Her entire body went cold as she was responding to the traumatic episode of her life. Vincent felt sorry for her and hugged her tight.
"I am here." He whispered.
He whispered.
"After that incident, I got pregnant. Life hit me hard back then. I don’t know what to do with myself. I try even ending myself right there. But Nathan came up to me and said, he wanted to help me." Hera smiled.
"Obviously, he didn’t even know who I was. And he is only a small-time private investigator who can’t even support himself. That is how we met. I sold everything I own and moved here, living alone with my daughter. From there, I managed to build a life for my daughter. Life far away from heroes."
Vincent nodded. He couldn’t dare to imagine the incident she was talking about but he knew that it was a very important moment of her life.
"I think I know a few things about you already." Vincent said with a smile of his own.
"You are kind. You appeared to be a bit of a free spirited person but you know how heavy the duty you carried and make sure to do it well. I can see the one you poured into your daughter. Every single one of the pictures showed how happy she got you as a mother. Now, tell me what is worrying you? Once again, I am here."
Hera nodded with a soft smile. He made her feel like she was important more than anything. It felt like he saw through everything about her.
The way he looked at her and how large his hand was as he hugged her. But no, she couldn’t. She was too old for him. Push away those desires, Hera.
"I am afraid that the same incident would happen again?"
Vincent nodded. He didn’t say blindly and contemplated instead. She must have wanted to hear his encouragement as soon as possible but Vincent wasn’t the type of man who gave empty promise.
"Can you stop it from happening?" He asked seriously.
"I...." Words stuck on her throat as she struggled to comprehend the answer.
’The incident is most likely tangible, something concrete. A person? Why? Who is that person?’ Vincent tried to find the answer from her eyes.
"If you can’t stop alone.... What about stop it with me by your side. Imagine the scene, Hera." Vincent said, looking ahead.
His eyes determined to uncover her past and protected her. He chuckled inwardly. But then again, Hera was strong. Strong enough to bounce back from the traumatic incident and move on. And now, even considering facing that past.
Could he do it like her? The answer was no. Because even right now, he was running. He felt like running.
"No...no..." Hera shook her head.
Vincent tilted his head and smiled. "Is it because I am weak?"
She looked up, her eyes widened in surprise. Apparently, he hit the nail.
"N..."
Her words were cut off by his sudden advance.
He locked his lips with her.
Vincent was fully expecting to be pushed away but the push didn’t come. He could feel his heart hammering inside his chest now as he reached his hand to grab her head softly.
He almost felt so sick in the stomach but he was also so aroused and excited by the act he pulled.
He paused and deepened the kiss. Then she parted his lips with her own and slipped her tongue into his mouth, and her taste came on heavy and strong.
She hugged as she pressed against him harder. Suddenly she broke the kiss with surprised eyes.
She couldn’t believe she just did it. Sure, Vincent initiated it but she was the one who got on it.
’I am a terrible woman, looking at a young man.’ She cursed at herself and felt more worthless about herself.
She noticed Vincent stood up and walked away. That made her even worse. She didn’t know why but she didn’t want Vincent to leave her side. She still wanted to listen to his stories and laugh. His charming smile.
When she looked up to grab at him, he was on fire.
Stunned, her jaw dropped to the floor.
Vincent was floating in the air with his hair lit with fire the same as her. But he appeared to be in more control.
"How?" One word managed to crawl out her throat.
"My secret, Hera." Vincent said softly. "I am telling you my secret. The secret I am planning to hide."
He had used his ability Soft Copy. As soon as he kissed her, the ability’s condition was fulfilled and he copied her ability.
The sensation he was feeling was strange. His mind was screaming at him that his body was caught in fire, literally but his body was cold, not affected by it.
He lowered the intensity of the output and landed on the ground. He stumbled forward but managed to stop himself from becoming an embarrassment in front of Hera.
The reason he revealed Hera was because of the condition. He still needed to kiss her to copy the ability.
"I have a superpower as well." He said.
Seeing her dumbfounded expression, he grabbed her hand and guided her outside.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
Vincent didn’t answer but lifted her up like a princess. He immediately activated his newfound power and channeled the energy in his heart.
The ability worked better with emotions but he didn’t need to rely on that. He had another superpower given by Eris, the god who transferred him to here.
Unlimited stamina he had finally shown its true potential.
He pushed the fire underneath his feet. Just a small push and yet he flew through the sky like a rocket, immediately surpassing everything.
"Woah, slow down. Slow down." He said to himself and finally came to stop, maintaining the energy output to stay afloat.
"I can’t believe the view is beautiful up here." He said.
"Isn’t that right, Hera?"
"Yeah." She agreed, smiling, reminiscing of the past. Immediately she frowned, hiding deeper into his chest.
"Let’s go." She said quietly.
"I can’t." Vincent shook his head. "We are in the sky."
"Then go to the ground."
"I can’t."
"Reason?"
"Because you still think you are alone in this world."
"Huh?" Hera asked.
"Yes. Deep inside your heart, you still think you are alone with no one else to carry your burden. You said Nathan asked to help you but you never said how he helped you. The deduction was a giant leap but I came up with the conclusion that you denied the help and picked yourself up." Vincent said.
"That is why I am showing you this. I am telling you my secret. I can copy the ability of anyone with a condition. The condition is a kiss. I am ashamed to say but the kiss is not like those peck on the cheek but the one with the tongue. Right now, I just copied your ability."
Vincent lifted up his hand, supporting Hera with one hand. Her breast pressed on his body but he ignored the sensation. He tried to.
He compressed the fire and poured out a shit ton of energy into it. He then fired it to the sky, to space.
The ball exploded, creating a temperature similar to the sun.
"See, I can also fight beside you this way. You don’t think you are alone. Because you are not. I am here." Vincent smiled.
