Chapter 55: Investment 55—The Start of an All Out War III

"Hahahahahaha.... How’s that?—"

"Who’s the dimwit now? Huh?!"

Liam pulled his fist out of August’s torso, and the lifeless body fell to the ground. The body shattered into a bloody puddle on the ground.

Liam flapped the blood off his fist. He laughed very loudly — vividly enjoying killing his former classmate. He was simply elated. Now he could validate to himself that he was better than August.

"You never deserved those ladies — I did, I deserved better—" he yelped.

"I fucking deserved better!"

He started having flashbacks— despite being the prime minister’s son, Liam was always looked down upon by his peers. Nobody wanted to be his friend — even for his riches.

When he walked into a room, the other kids found their way out one way or the other. Even when he approached a lady — he would get an excuse, maybe a family emergency or trying to meet curfew.

The reason Liam was being avoided was completely oblivious to him. He just chose to victimize himself and paint the popular kids — August and Taumus, to be precise — as the bad guys in his story.

He hated them in secret, loathed every and all things they did or did not do.

Then, on a fateful day, Liam had forgotten his umbrella at home, and it was pouring down heavily. His clothes were completely drenched. At his acclaimed lowest of the low, Alex approached him with an umbrella and a question.

"Prince Alex," Liam blurted out.

"Discarded noble, I have but one question for you—"

"Do you hate Taumus Lix Havan, August Randtel, and my older brother, Leonard El Lingard?"

Normally, his question would have raised suspicion in anyone’s mind. But for Liam, it was another thing entirely— Hatred.

"With every fibre of my being. They are all pompous bastards that must be put down."

Liam answered with unsheathed rage.

"Then, my dear friend, we have a lot to discuss." Alex handed Liam an umbrella.

Ever since that day, Liam and Alex became best of friends. After all — "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," or so the saying goes.

They planned together to humiliate Liam at the ball. Liam joined the dark side because Alex told him to. He believed in Alex more than he did himself.

The flashback ended, and Liam was drawn back to reality.

"I suppose it’s time to move on to the other one."

Obviously, Taumus would be the next one to kill on his list.

"How long does he intend to laugh for? A"

Taumus’s tired voice echoed.

"Ehhh... Beats me. T"

August replied.

"Who the hell was that?" Liam’s eyes darted around, trying to look for who was impersonating August’s voice.

His gaze then landed on the supposedly dead August and the yawning Taumus standing side by side.

"How?" Liam shouted incredulously. He had just killed August, but yet he was standing firm, alive and devoid of any injury.

"I just simply dodged, or is that so hard for your infinitesimal brain to compute?" August sneered.

He knew Liam wouldn’t go down that easily and would attempt to launch a deadly counterattack on his main body. So he placed a double far away and switched places immediately after the spell struck the double.

"When facing August, put him down as quickly as possible—"

"Crafty sleight of hand is one of the things he is very good at — perfect, even."

The words Alex told him before the battle briefly replayed in his head like a disk tape.

’I would expect nothing less from A. Even I would have a hard time noticing a switch that fast. And that double also possessed the same mana reserve as him, making it very hard to distinguish from the original.’

Though Taumus didn’t show it, he was in awe. What August just pulled was something even a genius could only dream of doing.

Liam’s mana skyrocketed; he was ready to use every single drop of mana he had remaining.

"Let me see how you bastards will escape this!"

A giant spell circle that covered up to seventy meters of airspace manifested, with dark lightning sizzling around it.

’Does he plan to burn himself out?’

From the looks of things, from August’s perspective, Liam was ready to lay down his life to put them down.

"A," Taumus called out.

"T," August nodded.

"Let’s do this!" They joined both their hands together.

A large dual-coloured spell circle— half crimson red, half deep blue — appeared beneath their feet.

The mystical glow from the spell circle bathed their bodies as their hair and clothes fluttered softly.

For combo spells to work, the affinities involved must be compatible, and it was common knowledge that fire and water negated each other.

Both these two lifelong friends believed so much in their friendship that they knew in their hearts that they weren’t bound by logic.

"Ashen flames folded in still water," their voices carried in unison.

"Demonstrate my anguish, reveal my hatred!"

Liam’s incantation boiled with rage.

"Submerged in the suffocating sea with only a lamp of crimson fire."

Wisps of flames and water appeared around them.

"Let it be known to any and all who cross my path!"

Dark energy condensed little by little at the center of the black magic circle.

"There might be no path found in the deep sea, but the lamp shall blaze a path to Primal Succession!"

The flames and water joined, unleashing a violent gust.

"Don’t plead, don’t beg. I know no apologies!"

Liam clasped his hands together. The dark energy violently increased in size.

"Bubble and Burn. Wet and Dry. Together cascade into one. Two polar opposites. Enemies of an unbreakable bond!"

The mix of water and fire dissolved into one humongous mass of purple.

"Adeimin Gaganknov!"

Liam pulled his hands downward, and a devastating blast of darkness followed that tore through the air.

"Minous Ashen Nebula!"

The large purple mass shot up at the dark energy. The two forces collided, sending tremors down the earth and causing the uprooting of trees. The ground gave way to quakes and started crumbling.

The dark mass was overpowering the purple. Liam’s grin grew wider.

"We can do this," August and Taumus grunted.

The purple blasted through the dark mass and disintegrated Liam’s body to nothingness.

"Where am I?"

Seria woke up in an empty dark room.
