Chapter 53: Investment 53— The Start of an All Out War
Three figures with profound bug traits (parts) stood at the top of a tree branch. Liam’s body floated beside them, suspended in air.
"Instructor, I am afraid I have to be taking that pretty head of yours with us."
The man with large housefly-like eyes adjusted the sleeve of his red suit.
"Don’t worry, your students will follow right after you."
The female with mushroom-like hair tucked a lump of hair behind her ear. The situation was looking pretty bad. Edith and Deria were impaired, Elliot’s and Seria’s mana circuits were still frozen solid, and Professor Neuman was in pretty bad shape after using that ultimate spell.
Crimson flames shaped like a dragon burnt the tree where the four Bug Lords stood.
"How about I reduce you bastards to bloody cinders?"
Red mana seared around Taumus’s body.
"Taumus?!" Elliot gawked.
August was nowhere to be found at some point in the fight against Liam.
"Elliot."
He threw a hand behind his head. He simply got lost in the fog.
A gust of strong wind blew across the entire area.
"Please save some for me."
Futaba, along with the rest of the student council leaders, stepped back into the battlefield.
"Clearing out all those students was such a hassle!" August threw his hands behind his neck.
"You must be the Four Bug Lords—" Rose placed her fingers on the hilt of her sword.
"You won’t be allowed or shown any form of mercy."
"Sorry we are late—"
"Don’t worry. Elliot will take it from here."
Golden lightning sizzled around Leonard’s body. Earlier, when they were all knocked down by Liam’s assault, the instant the council leaders came to, they ensured to evacuate all the students to prevent any form of casualties.
"More additional weaklings won’t make a difference. But—"
Thick dark smoke erupted and instantly obscured the vision of the student council leaders.
"Not that we ever intended to play fair!"
Ru’s voice rasped through the smoke. The student council members, Elliot, and the rest of them could barely see through the fog. The purpose of the smoke was to obscure their vision, but what Elliot didn’t understand was why they needed to do such a thing when they already had the advantage in strength and experience.
’Or less—’
He turned his left shoulder to the side on a whim—a sharp spike had flown past him and grazed his shirt.
’So that’s how it is...’
Elliot gained a handle on what their actual plan was.
"I didn’t expect Lords to carry out sneak attacks..."
He grabbed the hilt of his sword. A male figure with a pointed mosquito nose emerged from within the smoke.
"Hahahaha... I don’t think this is the time for silly jokes."
Ru’s voice rasped from every corner and side of the smoke that encased Elliot and Seria.
"What do you want with her?" Elliot said, his voice filled with fury.
"Ahhh, a smart one, are you not?—"
"It’s a shame you have to die."
The sound of long claws scratching against the ground carried through the air. Neither Elliot nor Seria were in a state to fight.
"El... Elliot."
Seria stuttered. Her breathing heaved—cold breaths came out of her mouth. Elliot looked at her with eyes of worry.
"Don’t worry—"
Elliot laid her on the ground gently. "I won’t fail you this time."
He crouched his feet against the ground.
"It seems you do have some moxie."
In a blur, Ru’s jagged long metallic claws met with Elliot’s blade.
"Nice defending," Ru smirked. "But you are gonna need to use mana to at least give you a fleeting chance of survival."
"Accel..."
Ru vanished and reappeared behind Elliot.
’A speed-up spell.’
Elliot wasn’t quick enough to react—Ru’s claws sliced several parts of Elliot’s body.
Crimson blood spilled forth onto the floor. Elliot fell to his knees, impaled. He couldn’t move a single muscle—he was nearly passing out from blood loss.
"A shame it has to end this way..."
Ru pointed a claw at Elliot’s neck.
’Seria!’
Elliot reached a hand towards Seria—he couldn’t even see her face properly, his vision was blurred by blood.
"Good ni—"
A violent burst of binding white light emerged from Elliot’s body and pushed Ru away.
[Your mana circuits have been unfrozen. Vassal Affinity +7 and Flame Affinity +7]
[+8 Wind Affinity. Congrats, you gained access to ultimate spells.]
Elliot’s end was far from happening—he rose to his feet stronger than ever and ready to protect his soon-to-be wife.
"So you still have some tricks up your sleeve, eh!"
Ru’s mana exploded through the ceiling. Red-black mana sizzled around his body. He was entirely out for blood and would stop at nothing until he claimed Seria.
And Elliot would not allow him to touch a single strand of hair on Seria’s head. Both of them had a motive they were ready to kill for.
They both vanished from the points where they were standing, leaving behind afterimages. Metal claws clashed against the edge of a steel blade.
Their clash sent tremors down the earth. The ground shattered, sending debris of broken rocks flying haphazardly into the sky.
"Rieron Vortex."
Ru spun his claws around, creating a giant maelstrom of slashes. His spell was just about to slice Elliot up like a pizza. A ring of water surrounded Elliot—the maelstrom simply bounced off like a rubber ball.
"Inner Mind: Variation."
Water swords encircled Ru and thrust down on him. He destroyed the swords with a dark energy wave.
The swords dissolved into blue mist that obscured Ru’s vision. Elliot came up from behind Ru and thrust a flaming sword into his torso.
"So that’s what you were after..." Ru sneered.
His body dissolved into a puddle of goo. Elliot then realised that he had just hit a double. The real Ru was looming over Seria.
Elliot’s eyes darted around to find their position. When he did, his body moved like the speed of light—he zapped to their location and launched a forward assault.
Ru blocked Elliot’s attack with his claws.
"Too late!"
He wrapped dark energy around Seria, and she vanished.
