Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Han Soi becomes flustered again!
Yue Yue huffed, still eyeing the black mud outside the tent door. She wanted to test her powers! But Han Soi was already busy.
He pulled out a self-heating lunchbox...one he had prepared earlier and opened it.
The rich, savory scent of food filled the small tent, a sharp contrast to the rotten smell of the forest outside.
"Eat," Han Soi said, placing a small piece of meat in front of her. "Once you are full, I will let you look around, but stay close to me."
Yue Yue looked at the delicious food and then at the "mysterious" soil outside. She decided to eat quickly. The faster she finished, the sooner she could start her secret gardening project in the middle of this death zone.
Han Soi sat cross-legged on the floor, watching Yue Yue with an intensity that could melt ice. He had come prepared.
Before leaving the estate, he had packed several high-grade, vacuum-sealed lunch boxes filled with the food he had cooked, trying to imitate her cooking skills. He knew that even in a death zone, his little female couldn’t survive on the disgusting nutritional tubes they usually drink.
It was no hectic task for him at all, as Lulu was always with her, so she had noted down the recipe and had helped him cook it.
He placed a tiny, bite-sized piece of steak in front of the little white snake.
Yue Yue looked at the meat, then looked at her tiny snake body. She tried to take a bite, but it was awkward. In this form, her mouth was too small, and her stomach was even smaller.
If she ate more than two tiny shreds, she would be completely full, but her heart would definitely starve. She wouldn’t have any energy left to explore the soil or do her missions. freewebnovёl.ƈom
She looked up at Han Soi and nudged his finger with her nose.
"I can’t eat like this!" she complained in her head.
Without a second thought, she gathered her energy. A soft, pearly white glow enveloped the tiny snake.
The pearly white light faded, and in an instant, the tiny snake was gone. In her place sat Yue Yue in her full human form.
But there was a major problem.
Yue Yue hadn’t realized that transforming back and forth so quickly didn’t exactly come with a wardrobe change. As she sat on the soft mat, her skin was as pale as milk, glistening under the tent’s dim lights. She was completely naked.
Unaware of the catastrophe she had just caused, Yue Yue let out a long, satisfied groan. She stretched her arms high above her head, her back arching as she worked out the kinks from being curled in a pocket all day.
"Ah... that feels so much better! Being a snake is so..."
Clatter!
The sound of the lunch box hitting the floor made her snap her eyes open.
Han Soi looked like he had been struck by lightning. His face, usually cold and unreadable, turned a shade of crimson so deep it looked like he was about to overheat.
"Yue... Yue Yue!" he choked out, his voice cracking. He immediately whipped his head away, staring at the tent wall with such intensity it might have caught fire.
"What? Is there a polluted beast?" Yue Yue asked, still blinking innocently. She looked down at herself, followed his previous line of sight, and then...
"Ahh!"
Before she could even scream, a massive, heavy shadow fell over her. Han Soi had lunged forward with his eyes squeezed shut, grabbing his thick military trench coat and throwing it over her like a net. He wrapped it around her so tightly she looked like a giant silk cocoon.
"Don’t!" Han Soi growled, his voice deep, raspy, and dangerously strained. He was breathing like he’d just fought ten S-rank worms at once. "Don’t ever transform like that without warning! Do you understand?"
Yue Yue poked her head out from the oversized collar of the coat, her face burning hot. She realized she was being a bit of a disaster, but seeing the mighty Han Soi so flustered and trembling made her mischievous side wake up. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
She clutched the heavy fabric to her chest and gave him a tiny, sheepish smile. Instead of hiding, she leaned closer to him, her eyes curving like crescent moons.
"Is my husband shy?" she teased, her voice dropping into a playful whisper. She reached out a hand from the sleeve and tugged gently on his clothes. "I’m your wife, aren’t I? Is it so wrong for my husband to see me?"
Han Soi stiffened as if he’d been electrocuted. He finally risked a glance at her, only to see her batting her long lashes at him shamelessly.
"Yue Yue," he warned, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed hard. "We are in a death zone. My men are thirty meters away. This is not the time for... for this!"
"Then when we get back, will you look then?" she whispered, leaning even closer until her nose almost touched his.
Han Soi felt like his brain was melting. He quickly grabbed a piece of meat and stuffed it into her mouth to stop her from talking. "Eat! Just... eat your food and stay in that coat!"
Yue Yue giggled, feeling very satisfied. But her hair was a bit messy, and her cheeks were flushed from the sudden change in temperature.
Han Soi’s breath hitched. Even though they were bonded and he had seen her before, the sight of her appearing so suddenly in this dark, dangerous place made his heart thud painfully against his ribs. She looked like a bright, delicate flower blooming in the middle of a graveyard.
"That’s better," Yue Yue whispered, her voice sounding sweet and clear as she chewed on the piece of meat.
She didn’t wait for him to speak. She reached for the lunchbox, her eyes sparkling. "I was so cramped in there! My legs feel like jelly."
Han Soi immediately moved closer, his large hand supporting her back as if she might fall over. "I told you it would be difficult. You should have stayed at the estate."
"And miss all the adventure? No way," Yue Yue said, popping a piece of savory meat into her mouth. She hummed in satisfaction, the warm food making her feel much better.
She picked up another piece and held it out to Han Soi’s lips. "You eat too. You’ve been fighting nonstop. If you collapse, who’s going to carry me?"
Han Soi looked at the meat, then at her hopeful eyes. He took the bite from her fingers, the familiar, delicious flavor filling his mouth.
He felt a surge of strength that had nothing to do with the food and everything to do with the fact that she was here, caring for him.
Yue Yue ate quickly, her mind already drifting to the black, cracked soil just outside the tent flap.
"Han Soi," she said, wiping her mouth and looking at him with a very "innocent" expression. "Since we’re resting... can I just touch the ground outside? Just for a second? I want to see what ’S-level’ pollution feels like."
Han Soi frowned instantly. "No. It’s toxic. It will burn your skin."
Yue Yue pouted, reaching out to grab his hand. "Please? Just a tiny bit? You’re right here to protect me, aren’t you?"
