Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Don’t Leave Me Behind
Yue Yue realized that he was actually planning to abandon her here.
The moment that thought crossed her mind, her expression completely changed. The little bit of calm she had been forcing herself to hold onto shattered instantly. Her lips trembled, and her eyes slowly filled with fear.
No. She was not going to stay here alone.
Even if that bastard was not here anymore, even if nothing seemed wrong on the surface, she would never feel safe in this place. This area was strange, unfamiliar and filled with hostility. The silence was too loud. And most importantly...he would not be here.
The thought alone made her chest tighten painfully.
Before he could turn away, before he could take even one step forward, she immediately reached out and grabbed his hand tightly, as if he might disappear the very next second.
"No," she said quickly, her voice shaking. "Take me with you."
He froze.
"Wherever you go, I’ll go too," she continued desperately. "I’ll just stay beside you. I won’t cause any trouble. I promise."
She shook her head again and again, gripping his hand even harder. "I don’t want to stay here without you."
She really was terrified.
When she lifted her head to look at him, her eyes were red, glassy, and filled with unshed tears. The pitiful look on her face struck him straight in the heart. His chest clenched painfully, as if someone had squeezed it with both hands.
His grip loosened slightly.
"No, no... don’t cry," he said hurriedly, panic creeping into his voice. "Please don’t cry."
He raised his other hand, gently wiping at the corner of her eyes. "You have to understand. I can’t take you there."
She sniffed, her voice trembling. "Why?"
"That place is very dangerous," he said seriously. "You might not be safe."
"But you’ve seen it yourself," she argued stubbornly. "Nothing has happened to me so far. I can survive pollution zone, don’t you know that?"
She lifted her chin slightly, as if reminding him of something important. "Didn’t we also meet in a polluted zone? Look at me. I survived. I didn’t cause any trouble."
Her voice softened again. "So let me go with you. I won’t slow you down. I swear."
He shook his head immediately. "No. That was only an A-level zone."
His expression turned grave. "This is an S-level zone. And it might even be higher."
Her breath hitched.
"We’ve only analyzed the outer area," he continued. "Once we go inside, we don’t know what we’ll encounter. This is the first time anyone is entering this zone."
His grip tightened unconsciously. "I don’t want to take you into something so unknown."
If something happened to her...What would he do then?
That thought alone made his scalp tingle. But she refused to back down.
"No," she said firmly, shaking her head. "I’m not staying."
She suddenly took a step back, her expression turning unusually stern. "If you don’t take me with you, then I’ll go myself."
His eyes widened. "What?"
"I’ll follow you," she repeated stubbornly. "You can’t abandon me here."
There was something dangerous in her tone now. Not anger...but fear...deep and uncontrollable fear.
She had a very bad feeling.
A feeling she couldn’t explain.
It was as if, if they got separated, they would never meet again.
She didn’t know why that thought appeared in her mind, but it terrified her. So terrified that she stepped closer and suddenly pressed her face against his hand. His entire body stiffened.
Looking at her like this made him feel suffocated. He had never said no to her before...never.
This was the first time. And yet, he still didn’t want to take her.
Because the place was too dangerous.
Suddenly, she pulled back, almost slipping from his grasp.
He panicked and tried to hold her steady, but before he could speak, she looked up at him and blurted out, her voice breaking...
"If you don’t take me... maybe when you come back, I won’t be here anymore."
He froze completely.
Even she didn’t know why she said it. The words slipped out on their own. But the moment she said them, her heart trembled violently.
What if it was true?
What if, when he returned, she really wouldn’t be here?
All her missions were related to villains. If she stayed behind alone, the system might assign her somewhere else. A different place. A different Villain.
What if she couldn’t come back? She didn’t want that. She didn’t want to leave him.
Hot tears finally spilled from her eyes, rolling down her cheeks as she stared at him silently.
He couldn’t take it anymore. Suddenly, he pulled her into his arms tightly.
"Don’t cry," he said hoarsely. "I’ll take you with me...Yue are not allowed to say something like this...never."
Her body stiffened in shock.
"You can’’t abandon me," he continued, patting her back gently.
Before she could even react, he lifted her up and hug her tightly.
She didn’t struggle at all. Instead, she immediately wrapped her arms around his shoulder, clinging to him tightly. freeweɓnøvel.com
"You are such a bully," she muttered, half-crying, half-angry. "Marrying me on the first day and then trying to abandon me right after. Have you no shame?"
She lightly shook him as she spoke.
He felt unbearably guilty.
"No," he said softly. "I would never abandon you. You are my only life."
She sniffed and glared at him. "Liar. You were going to leave without me."
Her voice cracked. "Don’t you know I already depend on you?"
She paused, then whispered, not realizing how much truth her words carried, "If something happens to you while you’re gone..."
She suddenly stopped.
Then she frowned thoughtfully. "You’re worried someone might see me, right? Or that they won’t allow a female to enter?"
Before he could answer, her body suddenly shimmered.
In the next second, she transformed into her snake form.
Han Soi stared as a small, beautiful snake...no larger than his palm...appeared and immediately wrapped itself around his shoulder. Her eyes glowed faintly as she hissed softly at him.
"I’ll hide in your pocket," she said proudly. "Then you can take me."
His heart fluttered. She was so adorable and precious.
He sighed helplessly and nodded. "Fine. But you must stay safe."
"Don’t come out of my pocket," he warned seriously.
Carefully, he placed her inside his pocket. Then he took out another small device and slipped it beside her.
"If you feel danger," he said quietly, "use this."
"It’s a protective shield," he explained. "It will cover you completely."
His voice softened. "Even if an attack comes toward me... it will protect you."
She curled around the device silently.
She didn’t know why she acted like that earlier, but deep down, she knew she wasn’t wrong.
If Han Soi had really left her here alone...
The system would have taken her somewhere else.
And she didn’t want to go anywhere.
She only wanted to stay with him.
