Chapter 136: Chapter 136: I Am the Mother

"Finally," Han Qiaone breathed, his voice trembling with a terrifying greed. "The true bloodline of the Winged Serpent. Give him to me."

He took a heavy step forward, his SSS-rank aura exploding outward, making the temple servants in the hallway collapse to their knees. He looked at the child as if it was the most precious existence in the world.

Yue Yue’s hope died instantly. She felt the predatory gaze of the old man and realized Han Soi was right.

The man looks like he wanted to devour her son, and his fake happiness is all because it seems her son was powerful, but what if her son was just a normal child? Would he start despising him?

Just by looking at him, she felt disgusted. No wonder Han Soi has never had a good opinion of this man. He was nothing like her father, who was so caring towards her.

Han Qiaone did not wait for an invitation. His eyes were fixed on the tiny black snake in Yue Yue’s arms, and his greed overrode any sense of manners.

He strode forward, his large, calloused hand reaching out to snatch the child directly from her.

"The blood of my clan belongs in my hands," he said, his fingers inches away from the cub.

Yue Yue gasped and tried to shrink back, but she was too slow against an SSS-rank warrior. However, before Han Qiaone’s hand could touch her, a blur of white and gold robes moved.

In a flash, Yue Yue felt a strong arm wrap around her waist and pull her backward. She stumbled against a firm chest, smelling the scent of incense and old parchment.

Feng Yansheng had stepped in, pulling her securely into his embrace and shielding her from the old man’s reach.

Han Qiaone froze. His hand was still hanging in midair. He looked at the High Priest holding his son’s female so closely, and his eyes widened.

He could easily read this situation; the high priest is interested in his son’s female. Has she also won the heart of the high priest?

Immediately, Han Qiaone’s expression shifted. He tried to force a respectful smile, his tone turning oily and flattering.

"My bad, High Priest! Forgive my rudeness. I was simply overcome with emotion at seeing my grandson. Surely, the most powerful man in the world understands the importance of bloodline."

Feng Yansheng didn’t smile back. His eyes were cold, and his voice was like a blade of ice cutting through the room.

"How dare you step forward?" Feng Yansheng asked. The air in the room grew heavy, making it hard for anyone to breathe. "You barge into my most sacred place, break my doors, and attempt to lay hands on a female under my protection. Do you think your status as a Clan Master means anything within these walls?"

Han Qiaone’s smile twitched. "High Priest, you misunderstand. This is a matter of the Winged Serpent Clan. The child..."

"The child is currently a guest of the Temple," Feng Yansheng interrupted, his grip on Yue Yue’s waist tightening possessively.

"And the mother is someone you have no right to touch. If you take one more step, I will consider it an act of war against the Temple. Do you wish to see if your ’iron fist’ can stop the wrath of the heavens?"

Han Soi stepped up beside them, his eyes burning with hatred for his father. "He’s right, Father. You aren’t in the Serpent State. You have no authority here. Touch her, and I’ll help the priest bury you."

Han Qiaone looked from the High Priest to his own son, his face turning a dark shade of purple. He was used to being the most powerful person in any room, but here, he was surrounded by monsters. He looked at the little snake chirping in Yue Yue’s arms and gritted his teeth.

"You are protecting a thief, High Priest," Han Qiaone hissed, dropping the fake flattery. "She is keeping the future of my clan away from its rightful home."

"I am the mother!" Yue Yue shouted from behind Feng Yansheng’s shoulder, her voice shaking but brave. "He is my son! He is not a tool for your clan!"

Feng Yansheng looked down at her and then back at the old man. "You heard her. Now, get out before I lose my patience. I dislike having my floors dirtied by people who don’t know their place."

The little black snake felt the heavy, suffocating aura of the old man. His huge violet eyes widened in fear, and he let out a tiny, distressed hiss before shrinking back into Yue Yue’s chest, trying to hide his small body beneath her hair.

Han Qiaone watched the movement, his fingers literally itching with the urge to grab the cub. He could feel it...the potential of the bloodline.

Finally, his clan had a successor who could surpass everyone.

But as he looked at the cold gaze of Feng Yansheng and the murderous expression on his son’s face, Han Qiaone forced himself to stop.

He realized he was rushing too much. If he tried to snatch the child now, he would be crushed by the combined power of the High Priest and Han Soi.

He took a deep breath, his eyes shifting as he processed the scene. His gaze moved from the High Priest’s protective arm around Yue Yue to Han Soi’s possessive stance. A flash of delight crossed his face.

So, he thought, my son is sharing a female with the High Priest of the temple?

In his mind, it was a massive political win. If his son was tied to the High Priest through the same female, the Winged Serpent Clan’s status would soar to heights never seen before.

His son’s luck was truly heaven-defying.

Suddenly, the aggressive monster transformed into a patient, loving elder.

Han Qiaone lowered his hand and stepped back, his face smoothing into a calmness.

"Forgive me," he said, his voice now steady and gentlemanly. "I was simply overwhelmed by the sight of such a magnificent grandson. It seems I let my excitement get the better of my manners."

He looked at Han Soi with a fake, proud smile. "Since the child has just been born, I will not disturb his peace. I will retreat to the guest house and wait for a more appropriate time to visit."

Han Soi didn’t buy the act for a second. "Just leave, Father."

Han Qiaone bowed slightly toward the High Priest. "High Priest, I apologize for the doors. I shall send the finest craftsmen from the Serpent State to repair them immediately."

As he turned to walk out, a dark, confident smirk played on his lips. He wasn’t worried anymore. freeweɓnøvel.com

He looked at Yue Yue’s stomach and then back at the baby. He hoped his son would produce even more grandchildren like this one.

In his mind, it didn’t matter where they stayed for now. Whether it was the Temple or the Land Empire, they all had the same roots.

Eventually, he thought as he stepped out into the hallway, they will have to return to the Winged Serpent Clan. The blood always calls them home. I just have to wait for the right moment to pull the leash.
