Chapter 71: Where Should We Go?
Theodore began recalling the area around their base, thinking about where they might be able to find various metals and iron. He thought about visiting some department stores or building shops.
But, the problem was that Theodore was still not too familiar with the layout of city A, so he was unsure where they should go.
While Theodore’s head was confused, he was surprised by Roderick throwing a thick paper at him. When Theodore was about to protest because he surprised him, Roderick cut his words short.
"That’s a map of the city; the Captain has marked some places we can go to find the items we need," Roderick explained, still with his awkward face.
"It turns out that your preparation is okay, too," Theodore replied, looking happy when he saw the map in his hand.
They walked towards a large truck with an open tailgate. When they saw the truck, Theodore knew that they would use it for this mission. It looks like people will be placed in the back, considering the capacity of passengers who can ride inside is only two or three people.
"How many people are going with us this time?" Theodore thought that he needed to ask Roderick about this.
"There are eight people. Do you think it’s enough?" Roderick looked a little worried about the number of people going this time.
"It seems like there’s no problem with the number." Theodore nodded vaguely, not having any objections to Roderick’s number.
Theodore realized that the others were already waiting for the two of them around the truck. This time, it seemed like they would also have to leave immediately without him first preparing anything.
Theodore also didn’t bring any provisions or food, even though there were plenty of foodstuffs in his house. Roderick didn’t say anything to him when he picked him up. Theodore wanted to go home first.
"Can you let me go to the cafeteria first? You know I haven’t had breakfast yet. If I knew we were leaving right away, I would have at least brought food from home!" Theodore was really complaining at the moment.
Roderick was silent for a while as if thinking about Theodore’s request.
While Theodore himself hoped Roderick would be kind enough to let him go to the cafeteria first, at least he could bring food from the cafeteria for the trip.
After a long silence, Roderick sighed heavily and nodded. "The others and I have taken our rations at the canteen. So you can go there alone. I’ll wait for you here and only give you 10 minutes."
The tip of Theodore’s lip twitched when he heard Roderick only gave him a little time to go to the cafeteria. But Theodore didn’t complain and quickly left.
Fortunately, the distance between where the truck was parked and the cafeteria wasn’t far, so Theodore didn’t have to spend much time traveling. Theodore preferred to take away his breakfast.
Theodore quickly returned to where Roderick and the others were gathered. Only when he was near, there did he see that there was a commotion.
Not wanting to attract attention, Theodore slowly approached them to see what was happening there.
Theodore saw Roderick and Noah as if they were arguing. He frowned, confused about why Noah was here, and he looked very angry at Roderick. Not wanting to be the target of their anger, he intended to hide first until Noah left.
Unfortunately, several other soldiers saw Theodore and called out to him because they had to leave immediately after hearing that Roderick and Noah had turned to him.
"If you want to protest, you can go directly to the Captain. Theodore, you can get on no; we’re leaving soon!" Roderic, annoyed,e immediately ordered Theodore to get into the truck.
Theodore, who didn’t want to deal with Noah, obeyed Roderick’s orders obediently and immediately got into the front of the truck.
"It turns out that guy is pretty scary when he’s angry. What. What did Noah say to make Roderick upset?"? Theodore muttered with a shudder when he saw how Roderick was angry.
Theodore calmly waited in the truck until, finally, a soldier got in, and he seemed to be the one driving it. Then, the last one to get into the car was Roderick, who was still bending his face. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Theodore did not say anything and did not intend to ask either because he realized now was not the right time to ask Roderick about it.
To divert his focus, Theodore looked at the map previously given by Roderick. He wanted to see where they were going this time, hoping they couldn’t stay within the base area. freewebnøvel.com
Theodore looked at the map in his hand and realized their truck had already started heading towards the west gate closest to them.
"Are we going to visit the closest place first?" Theodore turned to Roderick to ask about their destination.
"We’ll check the situation there. Of the 5 places the Captain marked, 4 are not too far from the base; we’ll check them first." Roderick nodded his head in agreement with Theodore’s words.
Theodore didn’t object to words; a place f; a place was indeed better to go to last.
Who knows, they could get a lot of iron near their area, so they wouldn’t have to travel far to a place beyond their reach.
Slowly, their truck arrived in front of the west gate. The soldiers guarding it told them to stop first because they needed time to open the gate.
Many soldiers were guarding the side of the truck as the gate slowly opened. The gatekeeper immediately told us to pass through the gate, and we were accompanied by the soldiers on the side of the truck.
There are many zombies behind the gate, so they must maintain a guard whenever someone comes out of the base.
The same was done around the newly built walls. The average fence surrounding the base was only about half a meter high, and zombies often passed through it, so soldiers were needed to guard the military. They desperately needed iron and metal to speed up their wall construction. They needed to raise their wall again, at least two meters high.
That way, the people sheltering in the base could feel safe and no longer worry about the zombies entering.
Theodore could already guess that they needed a lot of iron and metal to build the walls of this base.
