Chapter 68: The North Gate

Because he was there, the work on the west gate wall was completed faster, giving Theodore time to pick up Roxanne, who was in the north gate area.

Theodore approached Geoffrey to discuss this as they were about to return to the barracks. As Theodore called Geoffrey, he could see how he jumped in surprise when he heard his voice.

Theodore was still confused when he saw Geoffrey’s reaction. "Why are you so surprised?"

Geoffrey chuckled softly while rubbing the back of his head nervously. "Hahaha... Forget it. What did you call me?" Geoffrey immediately shifted the flow of the conversation.

Remembering what he had come to see Geoffrey for, Theodore unceremoniously said what his purpose was.

"Are you coming to pick up Roxanne?" Theodore was actually unsure what to say to Geoffrey.

Geoffrey’s eyes immediately sparkled when he heard Theodore’s words, even though he had previously wanted to discuss this with Theodore. However, he looked so creepy today that he abandoned his intention to remind him of this.

"I thought you forgot! Of course, I’m coming!" Geoffrey immediately perked up, no longer feeling awkward around Theodore.

"The problem is I don’t know the way there. Do you know it?" It was actually quite embarrassing to admit this to Theodore.

"Don’t worry, I’ve been there several times," Geoffrey replied smugly.

"Then I’ll entrust this trip to you!" Theodore nodded happily. At least they didn’t have to worry about getting lost.

While walking back towards the military car, the two of them had a friendly conversation, unlike before, when it looked like they were arguing. Theodore was too wrapped up in his negative thoughts, making him look scary from the outside.

Theodore himself didn’t realize that, so he was surprised to find Geoffrey’s overreaction when he called out earlier.

It didn’t take long for their military car to leave and return to the barracks. Only this time, Theodore and Geoffrey asked Walter to drop them off halfway because they intended to pick up Roxanne, who was at the north gate.

"I remind you to be careful, Geo. You know it’s dangerous there," Walter spoke seriously to both of them.

"Take it easy, sir! I’m with brother Theo; he’ll protect me," Geoffrey replied, nodding his head in understanding of Walter’s advice.

Walter didn’t want to interfere, so he just nodded his head and let them go on their way.

"I’ll tell the guard to keep your wages. You can ask him when you get back," Walter said before getting back into the car.

"Thank you, sir!" Geoffrey also waved his hand towards the military car that started to move away from them.

Theodore didn’t understand what they were talking about. He entrusted this matter to Geoffrey because he knew the young man knew more about this than he did.

"Do we need to walk far to get to the north gate?" Theodore voiced his curiosity while walking.

"Not far enough, I can tell we’ll be sweating tonight." Geoffrey grinned when he said that.

Realizing that this trip would be extended for them to go through.

It took about 15 minutes of walking for them to reach the area around the north gate. Along the way, Theodore realized that the area there was indeed creepy, dark, and gloomy, which was what he felt.

For some reason, Theodore felt that many eyes were looking at him from the darkness as if someone were stalking their arrival there.

"Looks like they’re still continuing their work," Geoffrey said when he saw that there was still light around the wall.

"We should wait here, don’t disturb them." Theodore invited Geoffrey to wait a little further away from the workers’ area so they would not disturb the working people.

"Alright," Geoffrey replied as Theodore said.

Then, they sat down under a reasonably large tree around the area. Theodore was vigilant at this time as he sensed many lurking in the darkness.

"I’m always uneasy when I come to this place. I admire my sister for being able to work there," Geoffrey said as he rubbed his cold nape.

"Are you really unable to change jobs?" Theodore finally asked.

Geoffrey shook his head, then said, "I’m actually apprehensive about my sister working here."

"You don’t have to worry. We’ll pick him up every night like this, so nothing bad will happen to him." Theodore, standing next to Geoffrey, gently tousled the young man’s hair.

However, the tranquility did not last long because they heard the sound of a car speeding up and approaching the direction where the people were working on the wall.

Theodore immediately turned his gaze toward the commotion, and with the system’s help, he could figure out what was happening there. Unknown people exited the car and made a scene in the middle of the workers working on the wall.

"Damn, someone’s coming to make trouble!" Theodore snorted loudly. He immediately took out his sword and ran towards the commotion.

Geoffrey didn’t flinch. He followed Theodore from behind; he didn’t want his sister to get hurt; protecting his sister was his duty, and he couldn’t stay silent now.

"Geoffrey, take out your weapons and prepare to fight!" Theodore immediately gave his order to Geoffrey, who followed him from behind.

Already ready to jump into the fight, Geoffrey took his spiked baseball bat from his backpack.

Quickly, Theodore arrived at the scene. He immediately took out his Wind Slash skill to repel the foreigners who tried to attack the workers and soldiers on duty there.

Theodore stood in front of the workers at the north gate, positioned his sword in front of his body, and was ready to attack them at any time.

"If you don’t want to die here, you better leave," Theodore warned them as he glared at them.

Instead of being scared, the people who covered their faces with masks laughed at Theodore’s words; they didn’t take his words seriously and continued to laugh at him. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"What could someone like you do to us?"

"Look at the boss! This kid dares to talk to us like that!"

"You’re the one who will die in our hands."

"You lowly workers should thank this young man, I’ll let you go and will only take this boy!

From his words, Theodore realized that the person who spoke last was the leader of this strange mob. He should be careful of him like him.

Theodore would not be able to win over them as he could sense that some of them were power users, and he was also outnumbered, given that the workers and soldiers there would not be enough to fight these people.

Thus, Theodore thought he should bluff to scare them for now so that they could at least escape today.

Without saying much, Theodore moved quickly towards the person closest to him, then swung his sword to behead that person; he deliberately did it to cause a shock effect on them.

"If you don’t want to meet the same fate as this man, leave while I let you go." Theodore’s voice sounded icy at that moment.
