Chapter 59: The Head Alpha
Four hours passed, giving the Midnight pack’s warriors time to settle into their new rooms and get familiarized with the Luna pack’s land and people.
It was not hard to get to know each other, for some reason, everyone felt so welcomed as if it is their own home.
The hallways buzzed with friendly chatter, they seemed like some old friends reunited.
There were new friendship bonds formed over hearty meals prepared by the Luna pack’s cooks for the newcomers.
Outside in the courtyard, training areas had been prepared with sparring rings, practice weapons, and targets stuffed with straw.
As the afternoon light began to fade, the wolves gathered outside a seamless mix of Midnight and Luna fighters standing side-by-side.
To any observer, they would appear as one cohesive force - rugged, disciplined warriors united in their purpose.
Only slight differences in clothing and weapon choices hinted at their separate origins.
That difference is what they both need.
More new skills to learn from each side and also the extra number of warriors.
Anyone can easily see the determination blazing in their eyes revealed the truth: Midnight and Luna were now a single, formidable force against any threat.
Anastasia stepped forward, surveying the combined warriors with solemn pride. "Today, we unite our packs and change our way of life," she called out, instantly commanding their attention. "Too long we have been divided, left to fight alone against the constant attacks."
Her chin lifted defiantly. "But no more. From now on, Midnight and Luna stand together - bound by shared blood and an unbreakable vow to destroy those who would take our lands and slaughter our people."
A thunderous roar of approval rose up, wolves raising their weapons high.
When the din quieted, Anastasia’s voice took on a steely edge.
"Let our joining as allies begin, so we may forge ourselves into an unstoppable force against the destruction ravaging our homes. Midnight! Luna! Show me the spirit of the warriors we lead into battle."
With that, the joint training commenced in earnest.
The clashes of wood against steel rang out as wolves sparred with staffs, blades, and mostly bare hands.
Shouts of effort mixed with bellowed critiques from the observing trainers as they identified strengths and shored up weaknesses without bias.
Melding the packs’ distinct fighting styles would be grueling work.
But the foundations were there - trust, mutual respect, and an unshakable will to survive. Let the fires burn ever hotter.
From this crucible, an elite force would emerge, capable of unraveling the darkness threatening to consume them all.
Anastasia’s critical gaze swept over the training courtyard, observing as Midnight and Luna’s warriors wrestled and exchanged blows.
The air was thick with the sounds of flesh striking flesh, animalistic snarls, and the acrid scent of exertion.
"Impressive, isn’t it?" Xavier’s voice sounded beside her.
The Luna pack head alpha wore a satisfied smile as he joined Anastasia in her observation. "I think we are going to be okay. Together, I truly believe we have the power to defeat this threat. I mean look at them. We can do it."
She gave a solemn nod. "You are right."
Seeing her fierce Midnight warriors seamlessly integrate with Luna’s skilled fighters ignited a newfound sense of hope within her.
United and properly conditioned into a single, cohesive force, they would be utterly unstoppable.
Maybe they have a chance to survive and protect their packs from the unknown threat.
Only maybe because fighting something that they don’t quite know is still scary since they have no clue about the limit of forces of the threat.
"Our combined numbers and breadth of abilities make us tough," Anastasia agreed. "But their unwavering determination is the true key."
Her sharp eyes roamed the focused, watching the feral expressions on display as fangs flashed and claws rent flesh. "They grasp the stakes, the need to set aside individual glory for our mutual survival."
Xavier’s approving hum rumbled beside her as he watched the vicious sparring unfold.
"You have bred an incredible discipline in them. I will admit, that I had doubts about amalgamating our packs so suddenly. But they have already exceeded my highest expectations tenfold. All because of you."
A beat passed before a considering look entered Luna’s head alpha’s eyes. "Actually...this gives me an idea."
Intrigued, Anastasia arched an eyebrow "Go on."
"To further combine our warriors and accurately gauge their respective abilities," Xavier began, "why don’t we have them engage in all-out combat trials against one another? One-on-one, no-holds-barred."
His eyes danced with eager scheming as the vision took shape. "Envision it - Midnight’s fiercest traded against Luna’s elites in battles that will push them to their primal limits. We could classify them into ranked tiers based on their ferocity, identify both our most exceptional talents and those requiring improved conditioning."
Anastasia felt a wolfish grin spreading across her features as she contemplated the proposal’s potential benefits.
Singling out their greatest assets early and honing them into an unstoppable vanguard...yes, that could undeniably tilt the scales in their favor.
"A barbarically elegant solution," she purred in approval. "We will offer honors and spoils to the champions that emerge, raise the stakes, and kindle their competitive fires."
Her molten stare cut toward the nearby sparring circle, where an alpha figure traded savage blows and slashing strikes against a trio of adversaries.
Something primitive and forbidden fluttered low in her belly as she watched Liam’s battle-hardened form, admiring the mesmerizing lethality of his feral moves despite herself.
Shoving those inappropriately heated thoughts aside, she refocused on Xavier with marked determination glinting in her eyes.
"Agreed, we should promptly formalize these trial combats while their blood still burns hot from the thrill of joining forces. I will have Philip organize the initiating bouts and--"
Excitement filled the training yard as warriors sparred in their wolf forms, fur flying, and teeth snapping.
Caleb moved among them, carefully writing down each fighter’s name, skills, and areas that needed improvement.
His notes would help rank everyone’s abilities once the intense one-on-one combat trials began.
As if reading Caleb’s mind, Xavier turned to Anastasia with an eager grin. "Why don’t we give a demonstration match before the real contests start? You and me? What do you think?"
Philip chuckled from behind them. Xavier instantly turned to look at him in order to find out the reason why he laughed at his suggestion " Oh, sorry for laughing, I just don’t think this is a good idea. I wouldn’t advise that. Sparring against our alpha? She will have you licking the dirt in no time. And that, can make your warriors see her and see our warriors as a threat. So maybe not. Instead, I will take your place against our alpha."
Xavier’s grin didn’t fade.
As a powerful alpha himself, he relished the challenge of facing such an elite opponent and already knew that he would lose the match.
He just wanted to see how long he could manage to stand against a true blood, basically test his limits.
But now that he thought about what Philip said, it is definitely not a good idea.
A hush fell over the crowd as word spread of the two true bloods’ upcoming fight.
Anastasia felt the instinctive drive to prove her dominance burn within her.
"Very well," she said flatly, removing the jacket that she had one. "Shall we take this to our full wolf forms?"
She loves having one-on-one combats with Philip because she can use all her efforts against him and as a true blood, he would not get badly hurt or even killed.
Without a preamble, she triggered her trueblood transformation.
Bones crunched and reshaped as she morphed into an immense black-coated timber wolf over fifteen feet long.
Her fanged maw opened in a rumbling challenge as she focused on Philip’s shifting shape.
The massive dark auburn wolf that emerged matched her size, hackles raised high as they began circling the makeshift ring.
His own thunderous roar shook the ground as the alphas prepared to clash.
Then, in an explosive burst of primal force, they collided—
Muscle and bone smashed together in a whirlwind of savagery.
Slashing claws and snapping jaws left streaks of crimson as they grappled, only to break apart and crash together again with bestial fury.
It was the preternatural unleashed - two avatars of untamed ferocity driven by their trueblood power.
Their unrelenting violence flowed in an endless struggle for dominance, sheer lethality fueling their transcendent clash.
On and on they battled, sustaining horrific wounds that would cripple normal wolves. But their ferocity only heightened to greater extremes.
Until at last, one final flurry ended with the bitter taste of submission...
Anastasia’s jaws clamped around Philip’s throat, ivory fangs scoring his flesh but mercifully stopping short of the killing blow.
The amber wolf thrashed futilely before finally allowing his body to go limp in surrender.
As the panting Anastasia released him, a thunderous roar of celebration erupted from the crowd.
The disciplined ranks broke into whistles and shouts at the dominating display they’d witnessed.
Philip stalked forward, beaming with pride despite his dusty fur as he shifted back to his human form, making sure to put some shorts on.
He eyed Anastasia’s heaving flanks with clear approval.
"And that, ladies and gentlemen" he stated gruffly, "is why she remains the head Alpha of our pack." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Xavier chuckled at how messy Philip looked then said what made Anastasia’s wolf and Liam who was busy training with warriors freeze " Maybe you should try combat Liam next. I bet he can stand more than Philip."
