Chapter 27: Saga 27—Sweet..... Sweet PAYBACK!
Let’s take it back a couple of minutes to when Paul was beating the shit out of Azure Blake. Foolishly, he didn’t pay any attention to Kael based on mana; he was the weakest amongst them, so Paul chose to save him for last.
Kael couldn’t just sit idle and watch his new companions get their asses beaten by some ’ten-foot ugly freaky motherfucker’—his words exactly. He could have run for his life and abandoned them, but ’Even semi-perverts have morals.’ He chose to stay and help his newfound, headache-inducing acquaintances.
The instant Kael took a step forward, his body completely froze. It wasn’t fear, no, no... this was something else entirely, something utterly foreign. Kael tried to move, but his body would not obey him.
’What the hell is going on?’ He grunted, trying to force himself forward. It was as though he was inside his own body, yet someone—or something else—was in control.
[Error..... Error... The host cannot beat this threat.]
[Error.... Error>>> The host isn’t allowed to move another step.]
[The..... The... Admini..... Error...]
[Initiating emergency withdrawal. The host will teleport to the nearest area (Sumbiya Hot Springs).]
[Withdrawal in 10....9.....8...7..6..5..4]
’Hey! Scumbag system... stop this immediately!’ Kael protested. He didn’t want to abandon them, but his system had other plans.
[3...2..1]
’Stop.... Stop..’ He grumbled.
"I said stop... God damnit!" He managed to move his mouth. A translucent teleportation circle appeared beneath him, the white light about to swallow him whole.
[Emergency withdrawal initia—]
[System Error has been subdued for now.]
[Yo! Jerk of a host, you aren’t looking so good.]
"You fucking bastard!" Kael yelped, still unable to move his body.
[Hahaha, the look on your face is still priceless. Uploading to archive.]
[I was a little bit, ehhh..... preoccupied.]
’Preoccupied doing what—’
’You know what, unfreeze me,’ Kael demanded.
[Request has been authorised.]
[Ahem! The ??? System has sensed the host’s desperation—]
’Desperation?’ Kael furrowed a brow.
[The following assists have been enhanced: Location Assist and Teleportation Assist.]
’So, what’s the enhancement, and how can it help even the odds?’ Kael asked.
[You may be annoying, but your instincts are always spot on.]
[Location Assist: This assist is no longer limited to finding the host’s systems. With this assist, the host can find (detect) anything they so wish, with limitations, of course.]
[Teleportation Assist: So long as the location is not more than a thousand miles away, the host can teleport there without any cost.]
’Touché... not bad at all. Also, I wanted to ask, can I use the Teleportation Assist to dodge attacks during fights?’ He inquired.
[Yes..... Why do you ask?]
’You’ll see.’ Kael’s lips curled into a profound smirk.
[So, what’s the plan, my semi-competent host?]
’So you can give me another prompted task... No thanks, buddy.’ Kael was all too familiar with his system’s tricks.
[Tsk! You are no fun.... I promise the reward will be worth it.]
’How about the penalty for failure and the time limit?’ Kael rolled his eyes.
[Do as you wish.]
’That I shall.’ He chuckled.
Kael’s mind drifted back to when Yuki said he saw something, though he hadn’t heard him clearly at the time. He stroked his chin. Then came an idea—an imaginary light bulb literally lit up above his head.
’System, can you help me locate any other anomalies in this forest apart from me, them, and the ugly big guy that’s trying to kill us all?’ He inquired.
[Location Assist has been activated. Scanning for abnormalities within this forest...]
[Three presences have been found, but only one meets the criteria to be called an anomaly based on the corrupt energy signature.]
’Which is?’ Kael leaned toward the floating cerulean screen that resembled a map.
[A biological Mythical-grade artifact. It appears to have been tampered with.]
[I surmise that’s where the strange man, Paul, has been drawing his strength from. It’s also the cause of the forest animals’ mutation via miasma.]
’Hmmm.... I see. Can you take me ther—’
[Evolution Quest: Consume the Mythical-grade biological artifact: The Heart of Ouroboros and acquire the special ability: Absorption.]
[Reward: Two Supreme abilities and 10,000 EXP.]
[Penalty for failure: Lose all senses and die by suffocation.]
[Time limit: Not required.]
’Really?’ Kael wondered whether his system actually wanted him dead. On the flip side, the rewards were genuinely worth it. Plus, he had a big bad to take care of. He didn’t have the luxury of choice.
"Take me to the artifact," Kael muttered.
[Specify...]
"The Heart of Ouroboros." He let out an exhausted sigh.
[Kk.]
Kael vanished in a blur. His mind lapsed into a fleeting daze because of how fast the teleportation occurred.
He stood before a colossal oak with a pulsating, dark, mucky heart embedded within its trunk. A stream of mana flowed from it toward Paul’s direction.
"Let’s see how you fare without your power battery." Kael sneered. He wrapped his hand around the Heart of Ouroboros. It felt wet and slimy. Kael could vividly feel it pulsing within his palm.
He ripped the heart out. Without any form of resistance or interruption, the process was disappointingly quick for Kael.
From the distance, Kael could see Sylvia getting her ass kicked.
’I can’t marry her if she’s dead.’ Kael rubbed a hand against his temples.
"System, take me to Sylvia," Kael yelped, his eyes filled with worry.
[Okay....]
He vanished and reappeared in front of Sylvia. When he turned his head back, the sight of her standing helplessly with bruises all over her body seared itself into his eyes.
Paul charged straight at them, and there wasn’t enough time for Kael to teleport both himself and Sylvia away.
[The host has been awarded 15,000 EXP for being willing to sacrifice his life for the Sword System.]
[The host has leveled up ×10.]
[LVL 50 > 60]
[The host has acquired the Unique Ability: Quitax Barrier: Negates anything or anyone the host deems harmful or detrimental.]
’Just this once, I’ll give it to you... System, you are SUPER DAMN COOL!’ Kael’s lips curled into a smile.
