Chapter 408: Chapter 297: High-End Item, a Lifelike Spiritual Artifact
Su Yue’s cooking rivaled that of a master chef; the dishes she prepared were so delicious that Lin Li was completely powerless to resist.
The five dishes and one soup on the table were wiped clean, with most of it ending up in Lin Li’s stomach.
"Phew..."
Having eaten his fill, Lin Li was a little stuffed. He patted his bulging belly and let out a long breath.
If he hadn’t been busy in the wilderness all day and become ravenously hungry, he probably wouldn’t have been able to finish the entire spread Su Yue had prepared.
"You should cook a little less rice next time. You made so many dishes and a huge pot of rice on top of that. It was a real struggle to finish everything."
A happy smile appeared on Su Yue’s pretty face when she saw that Lin Li had polished off every dish she’d made.
She stood up and started gathering the dishes to take to the kitchen. Hearing Lin Li’s comment, she said with a smile, "I was just worried you wouldn’t have enough to eat!"
’I’m not in the same state I was right after eating the Magical Little Fruit,’ Lin Li thought. ’I don’t have that side effect of a massively increased appetite anymore. Even though I was starving, finishing this whole spread was bound to leave me stuffed...’
After muttering to himself for a moment, Lin Li stood up and helped Su Yue clear the remaining plates from the table, carrying them into the kitchen.
"Um, why don’t you go rest in the living room? I’ll take care of the dishes," Lin Li said, placing the plates in the sink and turning to Su Yue, who was about to put on an apron.
’I mooched a meal off her, so the least I can do is help with the dishes. It wouldn’t feel right to do nothing at all.’
’To be honest, the main reason is that I’d feel too embarrassed to come back for another free meal if I don’t pitch in.’
Seeing that Lin Li was intent on washing all the dishes, Su Yue nodded with a smile and handed him the apron she was holding.
"I don’t need an apron, I’ll just wash them..." Lin Li said, shaking his head as he looked at the feminine apron Su Yue handed him.
"You should put it on. You don’t want to get water splashed all over you and get your clothes dirty. Then you’d just have to do more laundry when you get back. Wouldn’t that be a hassle?" Su Yue coaxed, unfolding the apron to help him put it on.
"Alright, alright, I’ll wear it. I can do it myself..."
As Su Yue stepped forward with the apron, drawing closer, a delicate, sweet fragrance washed over him.
He quickly took a step back, waved his hands, and took the apron from her, putting it on himself.
Su Yue watched him put on the apron she normally wore. A playfully teasing smile graced her lips, and her bright eyes were filled with amusement.
"There, it’s on. You can go now," Lin Li said after putting on the apron, turning to the beaming Su Yue.
"Don’t forget to wash the rice pot, too," Su Yue reminded him. Then, humming a cheerful tune, she left the kitchen with a light sway in her step and headed for the living room.
SPLASH, SPLASH, SPLASH...
The sound of rushing water came from the kitchen sink, punctuated by the occasional clatter of pots and bowls.
* * *
"Recently, Mutant Beasts have occasionally crossed the border into the suburban areas of the Rongcheng South District, entering the safe zone and causing trouble.
Effective immediately, the authorities have dispatched multiple construction crews to the South District. They will be installing razor wire fences along the edge of the safe zone bordering the wilderness to deter any Mutant Beasts that might attempt to cross into the safe zone.
We would like to remind everyone that although these fences are being installed, they are not absolutely foolproof. Therefore, for the time being, it is best to avoid the areas in the South District that border the wilderness..."
On the television, a beautiful news anchor was once again reporting on the Mutant Beast incursions in the South District, reminding the city’s residents to stay away from the areas bordering the wilderness.
Although the content of the report was already old news, having been repeated several times in recent days, viewers felt as if they’d heard it so many times their ears were growing calluses.
Even so, the news anchor repeated the same information over and over, hoping every viewer would take the warning to heart.
The curvaceous Su Yue, dressed in a white T-shirt and denim shorts, was sitting cross-legged on the sofa.
Leaning back against the sofa, she watched the news report on TV, but her attention was really on the sound of dishwashing coming from the kitchen.
When the sound of dishwashing from the kitchen stopped, Su Yue knew Lin Li had finished. She immediately hopped off the sofa and, in her delicate slippers, ran to her bedroom.
After finishing the dishes, Lin Li tied up the kitchen trash bag and placed it by the front door to take out on his way home.
With everything taken care of, he untied the apron, hung it on a hook, and returned to the living room.
"Where’d she run off to?"
Lin Li didn’t see Su Yue upon entering the living room. He glanced toward her bedroom and noticed the light was on.
He sat down on the sofa, reached for a strawberry from the fruit bowl on the coffee table, and popped it into his mouth.
"This strawberry tastes pretty good. My Mysterious Small Island doesn’t have any strawberries. I should buy some seeds later and plant them to achieve strawberry freedom."
While eating strawberries from the fruit bowl, Lin Li started planning to add a new crop to the farmland on his Mysterious Small Island.
After eating a few more strawberries, he pulled out his phone, found an online store that specialized in strawberry seeds, and ordered a bag of what was advertised as a new, optimized variety.
