Chapter 407: Chapter 296: The Bizarre Jade Talisman Spiritual Artifact, an Effortless Confrontation

Although it was suppressed, the red mist outside the glass case, which had been about to dissipate, seemed to be pulled by some force, beginning to flow in an orderly manner toward the Jade Token under the glass cover.

Even though the Jade Token was covered by the glass, there were still gaps. The red mist flowed along the glass, then seeped through the cracks.

In an instant, the small glass case was filled with red mist.

This didn’t last long, as the red mist filling the glass case visibly began to fade at a rapid pace.

Upon closer observation, one would discover that the red mist inside the glass case was being swiftly absorbed by the unassuming Jade Token.

Once the red mist was completely absorbed by the Jade Token, a faint red light flashed across its surface. The once-unremarkable token now shone with a brilliant luster, as if it had just been polished.

A pale golden Spiritual Light once again emerged on the Jade Token’s surface, followed swiftly by the restrictive measures Zhao Tianfu had imposed with his Superpower.

The golden threads tried to suppress the Jade Token again, but this time they failed. Having absorbed the red mist, the Jade Token was significantly more powerful and could now resist the threads with ease.

After they struggled for a moment, the Jade Token voluntarily backed down. It retracted its power and grew calm again, its polished sheen fading back to its original, unassuming appearance.

Seeing the Jade Token behave, the golden threads faded away as well.

The quiet laboratory returned to silence, as if nothing had ever happened.

...

Night fell, and the streetlights flickered on one by one. The streets were bustling with traffic as cars sped to and fro.

In Room 601 of Building 3 in the Happiness Garden District, a slender, aproned figure stood in the kitchen, wielding a spatula to stir-fry brilliantly red mushrooms in a wok.

The red mushrooms were almost ready. Su Yue picked up a nearby spice jar and sprinkled a little salt into the wok.

She gave them a few more quick stirs with the spatula, then grabbed a nearby plate and served the stir-fried red mushrooms.

’It smells amazing, but... are these mushrooms really edible?’

After plating the stir-fried red mushrooms, Su Yue leaned in for a sniff.

The enticing aroma of the red mushrooms was enough to make one’s mouth water, but their unsettlingly bright color was hardly reassuring.

Lin Li had been busy in the wilderness all day. He had rushed over right after coming home and showering, and now he was starving.

He sat on the living room sofa watching TV for a bit, but the tempting aroma wafting from the kitchen made it hard for him to sit still.

"Lin Li, the food’s ready! Come and get it!"

His stomach growling, Lin Li shot to his feet at Su Yue’s call and hurried to the dining room.

The sight of a table laden with beautiful and fragrant dishes assaulted the senses of the starving Lin Li.

He swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing. Finally, his gaze fell upon a plate of bright red stir-fried mushrooms.

"Stop staring and sit down to eat!" Su Yue said, emerging from the kitchen with two bowls of rice. She gestured for Lin Li to take a seat as she placed a large bowl in front of him.

Lin Li pulled out a chair, sat down, picked up his chopsticks, and immediately reached for the brightly colored stir-fried mushrooms on the plate before him.

When Su Yue saw this, her pretty, arched brows furrowed. She couldn’t help but try to stop him.

"Lin Li."

"Huh?" Lin Li had just lifted a clump of the stir-fried mushrooms with his chopsticks. He was about to stuff them in his mouth to find out just how delicious these red mushrooms from a Mutant Beast really were.

Hearing Su Yue call his name, he stopped and looked up at her. "What’s up?" he asked, confused.

"Are you really going to eat those mushrooms?" Su Yue asked, her gaze fixed anxiously on the red morsels held in Lin Li’s chopsticks.

"I already told you, they’re not poisonous. Don’t worry. I’ll be perfectly fine if I eat them," Lin Li said.

Then, before Su Yue could say another word, he popped the red mushrooms into his mouth.

The moment Su Yue saw Lin Li eat the mushrooms, she whipped her phone out of her pocket, opened the dialer, and entered the number for an ambulance, ready to make the call at the first sign of trouble.

Lin Li tasted the red mushrooms, and when he saw what Su Yue was doing, he couldn’t help but feel exasperated.

Soon enough, his exasperation was replaced by his delight at the mushrooms’ exquisite flavor.

"Hey, are you okay?" Su Yue asked when she saw a happy expression spread across Lin Li’s face after he ate the mushrooms.

"I’m fine! These red mushrooms are incredibly delicious, better than any I’ve ever had. You have to try some! You won’t be disappointed," Lin Li said with a grin, urging her to try them as well.

Seeing Lin Li perfectly fine and full of life after eating the red mushrooms, Su Yue’s doubts about them being poisonous finally vanished.

Encouraged by Lin Li, Su Yue picked up her chopsticks and tried a few of the red mushrooms herself.

"Huh?!!!"

Su Yue’s eyes lit up after tasting the red mushrooms. Just like Lin Li, she was completely won over by their exquisite flavor.

Seeing the surprised look on Su Yue’s pretty face, Lin Li grinned and said,

"So? I wasn’t lying, was I? The taste is out of this world."

Su Yue hummed in agreement. "You’re right," she said. "These red mushrooms really are delicious... Which stall at the market did you get them from? I’ll go buy some tomorrow."

"..." Lin Li’s smile froze for a second when he heard Su Yue say she was going to buy more at the market tomorrow. He quickly composed himself, thought fast, and said,

"The vendor said he didn’t have many of these and was only selling them for one day. You won’t be able to find them if you go to the market tomorrow..."

"Oh, really? That’s a shame," Su Yue said, believing him. She sounded a little disappointed as she reached out with her chopsticks to grab another bite.

"It’s nothing to be sad about. I knew he was only selling them for one day, so I bought a lot more.

"They’re at my place! I’ll bring some over for you tomorrow," Lin Li said.

"Okay, thanks! How much were they? I’ll send you the money," Su Yue said with a smile.

Lin Li had spent a great deal of time hunting for that strange Mutant Beast in the wilderness of the South District just to get these red mushrooms.

He couldn’t exactly explain all that to Su Yue, so when she asked how much they cost, he just smiled and said,

"Don’t worry about it. They weren’t very expensive, and the vendor gave me a big discount because I bought so many..."

Hearing this, Su Yue said in surprise, "But these mushrooms are so delicious, and you said they’re rare.

"Not only did he sell them for cheap, but he gave you a discount for buying in bulk? He must be a terrible businessman!"

’Uh... yeah, you’re right. There’s no seller that foolish in the world,’ Lin Li thought. He gave a nervous laugh and changed the subject.

"Enough about the mushrooms. You called me earlier and said you had something interesting to show me. What was it?"

Hearing Lin Li ask about it, Su Yue’s attention was successfully diverted from the topic of red mushrooms.

"Let’s eat first. I’ll show it to you after we’re finished."

"Oh." Seeing that Su Yue was being mysterious and wasn’t ready to reveal her secret, Lin Li figured he could wait. He nodded and started digging into the delicious feast before him.
