Chapter 3: Chapter 3: First Subject

Riven stared at his open palm, he remembered the description of mana manifestation. His mana can take the form of any weapon that he imagines...

So he thought of a spear and willed it to form. He wasn’t expecting it to work but that was all he could think of.

For a moment nothing happened but then he felt mana rushing to his palm and taking the shape of a spear. When it was finished forming, the spear glowed brightly and, not only that, it gave off a sense of dominance.

He felt something inside him had decreased. Then the system whispered.

(Your mana level has dropped by 30

Current Mana Reserve: 170)

Riven stared at it then diverted his attention towards the spear since he knew that to use any ability, it requires mana. So instead he examined the spear for a moment, touched the tip with his finger and blood flowed from his finger. He mumbled.

"It’s sharp and it works."

Riven didn’t expect the spear to form with just a thought. He expected it to fail, but it worked, saving a lot of time.

So he locked his gaze on the girl, her entire body except the head was covered in bandages. The bandages were rapidly closing on her head.

He had to act fast if he wanted to save her so he aimed the spear at the undead and threw it with everything that he had. The undead beside her — the one who had driven its sword into her thigh finally noticed the incoming spear.

The bandages wrapped around its body began to come undone and they rushed towards the spear.

However, the bandages weren’t enough to stop it. His spear tore through the bandages with ease and slammed onto the chest of the other monster, sinking deep into its flesh.

The bandages around her body stopped spreading, and started to loosen. There was no moment, not even a little bit. His eyebrows knit together.

"Is she dead?"

Riven wasn’t sure. He intensely looked at her body but then a grinding howl similar to thousands of grains rubbing against each other resounded through his ears.

He locked his eyes on the undead that his spear had pierced, the bandages wrapped around the area around its mouth were stretching then contracting as grinding howls filled the air.

Even stranger blood didn’t flow from its wound. Instead, he saw sand leaking from the wound and the wind carried it all around the desert. He mumbled.

"They are made of sand."

Otherwise, why would sand leak out from its wounds instead of blood?

But this wasn’t what got his attention... Instead, he saw his spear dissolving into blue energy and sweeping deep into its body. The undead fell to the ground and thrashed around as if in pain.

Blue aura engulfed certain areas of its body mostly concentrated around its chest slowly but steadily spreading across its body. The area where the aura spread to, grew stiff and the movement ceased.

"Interesting..."

His mana had sealing power, was it the effect of his power? He wasn’t sure but it was rather uncommon sealing living beings with so little mana consumption.

As far as he remembered from studying various things about Astrionis, it takes all the mana reserve for most human sealers to seal something away.

If he could seal something with so little mana then maybe this class wasn’t as bad as he thought.

As he was lost in his own thoughts, the girl’s voice echoed throughout the place.

"Watch out!"

Riven turned around, and another undead stood a few inches away from him and its sword was closing in on his chest. Before he could even dodge, the sword pierced his right chest.

The undead twisted his sword as blood flowed from his chest and dropped to the ground. A groan escaped his mouth.

"Ahah..."

His body jerked violently as pain exploded across the wound.

"I can’t... give up."

At least not until he had cured his sister...

So Riven gritted his teeth and he imagined a blade and willed it to form. Mana rushed to his right palm and took the shape of the sword. He felt his mana reserves dropping rapidly.

He didn’t wait and thrust his sword towards the undead’s face but the undead pulled its sword stuck in his chest out. Bloodshot from his chest, he pressed down on his wound with his other hand with all his might.

A second later, the bleeding decreased but by then, the third undead had dodged his attack and created distance between them.

To make matters worse, another undead was charging towards him, the same one that had tried to stop his spear but had failed.

He didn’t panic; instead, he thrusted his mana sword towards the undead charging towards him but the Undead blocked his attack with its own sword.

Left with no choice, he let go of the wound and his bleeding increased but his left hand was freed. Using his left hand, he punched the undead across the chest and it staggered a few steps backwards.

Using this opportunity, he created distance between them and locked his eyes on the third Undead. It was bigger and bulkier than the rest. Its speed and reaction time were also higher than the rest. He mumbled.

"Scan."

Words flashed before his eyes.

(Name: Undead Desert Soldier

Level: 10)

He clenched his fist and cursed.

"Damn it..."

The level was very high, he was confident that he could defeat the other two but this one he wasn’t sure.

As he was lost in his own thoughts, his body glowed with a golden aura for a split second. He felt his muscles becoming stronger, his mind becoming clearer and his bleeding becoming almost non-existent.

The system whispered into his ears.

(You have been buffed!)

(Your strength has increased!)

(Your healing has increased!)

Riven’s eyes widened and his eyes knitted together in surprise.

"What?"

Was this also another ability of his mythical class? He hadn’t seen such an ability in the tablet describing his class. That is when he remembered the word ’buff’.

He could only by buffed by someone but by whom? There was only a single person who could do it and had a reason to do so.

He turned around, the girl who was wrapped in bandages had broken free, her palms were glowing and there was a golden glint in her eyes. The girl locked his eyes on him and shouted.

"I have a support class! The buff will last for five minutes!"

Riven didn’t say a word instead he just nodded, acknowledging her, and lunged towards the weaker undead

As he was charging towards them, a bright blue light exploded from his right blinding his vision. He halted his charge and covered his eyes.

"What the hell is this..."

When the light cleared, he opened his eyes and stared in the direction from which the light came. The undead who was impaled by his spear, was engulfed in a blue aura and was on its knees. Its head was lower, and it stared at him with its hollow eyes.

It’s as if this undead were bowing towards him.

He frowned in confusion. Then the system whispered into his ears again.

(You have sealed an enemy!)

(You have gained 1 sealing powers!)

(You have gained a subject.)
