Chapter 2: Chapter 2: A Woman In The Desert
Riven felt his entire body being reformed. All his senses including his vision, touch, and smell returned. When it did, the first thing he felt was heat.
A heat so severe that he immediately started to sweat. Within a second, his clothes were drenched in sweat and stuck to his skin like glue. He couldn’t see where he was since his vision was very blurry.
But when his vision cleared, he froze — endless sand was in front of him. He turned to his right, then to his left, and then behind him. The only thing he saw was endless sand basking in orange sunlight.
He tilted his head and saw an orange sun directly above his head. The sky was crystal clear with no clouds in sight.
He was not in the bastion he was supposed to be since based on the information he received from the government, the bastion was in a swamp where it rained almost all the time.
This place didn’t match any information that the government provided... It was nothing more than a dessert. Riven’s expression darkened. There was no mention of any desert near the bastion he was supposed to spawn in.
Hell, as far as he remembered, humans had never even discovered a single desert in Astrionis let alone have a desert under their control.
Suddenly realization dawned upon him.
"Wait... that means I am in uncharted territory?"
A shiver ran down his spine... If that was the case he was on his own with no help nearby. He could only rely on his own power to survive.
So he quickly summoned a tablet describing his powers and stared at it.

For a moment the fear of being in uncharted territory disappeared and a quiet gasp escaped Riven’s mouth as he stared at the class rank again.
"Mythical..."
He inhaled deeply and then exhaled... Mythical was the highest rank that a class or anything could reach. With a mythical class, a lot of obstacles would be cleared.
The Guild leader of the Imperium guild was widely believed to possess an epic rank class... Although Riven wasn’t certain, the guild was so powerful that no one could defeat him in a 1V1 battle.
So if the person who was rumored to possess just an epic class was so strong then how much stronger a mythical rank class welder would be?
He wasn’t sure but he was hype to find out. So his gaze didn’t linger on the class for too long; instead, he locked his eyes on his skills. The moment his eyes fell on them, his enthusiasm disappeared, replaced by a look of disappointment.
"Only this?"
The Seal of Loyalty granted his mana the property to seal living beings and mana manifestation the ability to shape his mana into any weapon he could imagine.
The skills were very underwhelming for a mythical class since these abilities weren’t groundbreaking... a lot of people had them and were much more powerful.
There was also something else that got his attention. It was the sealing power — in its place there should be exp. Exp was required to level up since he had sealing power in its place, would he have gained sealing power instead to level up?
If that was the case, he didn’t know how to acquire it. Exp could be gained by killing someone higher than his own level but he had no idea how to acquire sealing power.
As he was lost in his own thoughts, he heard a scream not an inhumane one but a humane one from behind him. He turned around, and there was no one behind him.
"It’s probably a mistake."
Then the scream echoed across the desert once again. This time with intensity far greater than anything that he had heard. For a moment, he didn’t know what to do but a moment later he rushed towards the source of the sound.
Not because of worry instead because of curiosity.
A heartbeat later, he came to an abrupt stop. A beautiful woman with long hair, wearing a light armor, was running ahead. She limped, stumbled, and fell, only to struggle back to her feet and continue running.
There really was another person in this uncharted territory but from the looks of it she wasn’t ok... Her armor was battered, her body drenched and face covered in blood.
It looked like that something had attacked her but what? He wasn’t sure but it seemed like she was here before him. Maybe, he could get some information from her.
Just as he was about to rush towards her, he spotted three humanoid creatures following her. Their bodies were covered in dirty bandages, they wore rusty armour and had swords in their right hand.
When his eyes landed on them, a few words flashed before him.
(Name: Undead Desert Soldiers
Level: 3)
Riven didn’t charge immediately and thought to himself.
"These are monsters."
Creatures who weren’t intelligent living beings and had special powers were called monsters and the system only reveals the level and name of monsters whose level was not too high than his own.
So these creatures were certainly monsters. The woman was being hunted but he was confused why she wasn’t fighting back with her power.
"Maybe her class is weak."
He kept staring at her thinking whether to help her. Was it worth saving a stranger by risking his own life?
Riven wasn’t sure so he did nothing.
Suddenly the woman tripped and fell. She tried to get up but before she could, one of the monsters got up to her, and it drove its sword into her thigh.
She screamed so loudly that it made him remember the worst day of his life. The day he saw his parents being torn limb from limb as their screams filled the air.
But no one came to help...
If he didn’t save her, wouldn’t he become the same thing that he hated the most... a coward like the members of the Supremacy Guild?
Riven shook his head and mumbled.
"This isn’t the same..."
The members of the guild had a responsibility to save them but he had no obligations to save her. She was just a stranger to him... just a stranger.
Suddenly, the bandages on the Undead’s body began to come undone and charge towards her. It wrapped tightly around her body until half of her body was covered in it.
She tried to yank her body free but it failed. As she tried, she screamed a lot more softly.
"Someone... help."
Riven gritted his teeth and mumbled.
"Screw this."
