Chapter 12: Chapter 12: No choice but to fight
A few undead from the group were moving towards them. It didn’t look like they had noticed them — thanks to the creature’s power. However, if they got too close then they might notice them since they could still see them.
Ayala turned towards Riven as she rubbed the back of the creature that she was carrying and asked.
"Any ideas?"
Riven didn’t say a word instead he turned to the last subject that was beside him and mentally commanded.
"Attack the group but come back to me 5 minutes later."
His subject didn’t waste a second instead it lunged towards the group of undead. Although he didn’t want to risk losing the level 10 undead. He had no other choice if he wanted to avoid a major battle with the group of undead.
His gaze lingered on his subject as it charged towards the ground. When his subject was close enough, the group of undead noticed it but they didn’t attack immediately.
All of the undead in the group just kept staring at him; their attention was completely drawn to him. Now was the perfect chance to get to the other side without any undead noticing...
Now getting to the other side as soon as possible was his number one priority in order to maximize the chances of survival of his subjects.
But there was a major problem...
His gaze landed on Ayala whose body was still full of burns caused by the last sandstorm. On her way here, she has moved very slowly. He was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to keep up with his full speed due to her injuries.
Still, he asked just to be sure.
"Can you move at your full speed?"
Ayala shook her head and said.
"Unfo..."
Before she could finish, he slipped one arm beneath Ayala’s knees and the other behind her back before lifting her effortlessly into his arms.
Like the first time she blushed but didn’t say a word. Instead, he saw her hugging the creature even more tightly. It seemed like she had grown used to it...
Riven stared at the creature that she was carrying and asked.
"Its power is still active right?"
Ayala nodded her head. He didn’t respond and lunged straight towards the group of undead whose attention was drawn to his subjects.
He maintained a healthy distance from every single undead but three undead near him stared in their direction. All level 12 and from the looks of it, they had become suspicious.
One of them even started to take a few steps forward. He prepared to lay Ayala on the ground as he mentally prepared for battle since he felt like they were going to be attacked any moment now...
That is when his subject who was standing still finally attacked another undead with his sword. The moment it did all hell broke loose... The entire group of undead descended into chaos.
Every single undead charged towards his subject but most of them slammed into one another because of the poor coordination that they had and fell to the ground on their faces.
This wasn’t all... the bandages wrapped around the body of the undead loosened and came undone. The bandages charged towards his subject making the dark sky appear white.
Due to the sheer density of the bandages, they became tangled with one another and failed to reach their target. Only a few bandages succeeded.
Even then his subject was unharmed because right after being attacked by an undead, he stepped backwards and went into full defense mode. Any bandages that got close were cut down by it.
"Good job."
But not everything was good. Some of the undead that had fallen to the ground were rising up and this time making their way towards his subject very quickly.
Now there weren’t a lot of undead in their way due to most of them lying on the ground after they fell to the ground due to their first frenzy charge towards their subject.
Riven continued running past the group of undead with Ayala on her lap but then he noticed something. The creature that she was carrying started to revert to its original color.
A look of pure horror formed on her face as she tightly gripped the creature.
"Rabbolt! Please not now!"
Before Riven could proceed with what was happening, he heard the sound of his very own footsteps which were supposed to be suppressed by the creature. His heart sank as realization dawned upon him.
"The creature’s power is no longer working..."
Ayala’s voice resounded through his ears, urgency
"Hurry mister! She has run out of mana!"
Before Riven could even reply, the sound of countless footsteps grew louder with every passing second. He turned around and his expression darkened.
Some undeads had noticed them and were charging towards them.
Riven gritted his teeth and halted his steps. He put Ayala on the ground not carefully so she landed with a loud thud and threw sand into the air in the process.
He stared at the incoming undead, brought up his mana reserves, and stared at it.
(Mana Reserve: 200/210)
"Almost full."
This was good knowing that this fight wasn’t going to be far from easy. He established high-quality mental images of two swords.
He channeled mana into his two hands which began to take the form of something. A sword rested on each of his palms a second later.
Without even turning, he said to Ayala.
"Buff me."
Ayala blinked a couple of times
"Buff me! Right now! Otherwise we die."
Ayala didn’t speak, instead put the creature down beside her and stood up. She pointed her palms towards him as her entire body began to glow.
Riven’s body also began to flow as he felt power overflowing in his body. He tightened his grip around his mana sword as he stared at the approaching undead and mumbled.
"No choice but to fight."
The system whispered into his ears.
(You have been buffed!)
(Your strength and healing speed will increase by 3X for the next 3 minutes!)
