Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Crusade
Just as she was lost in thought, Tristan Tanner suddenly walked up beside her. "We still haven’t caught a few of them," he said in a low voice. "They probably heard what was happening and went into hiding. It’ll take some time to round them up. I’ve already posted a warrant online, so someone should provide a lead soon."
"Officer Tanner, you’re incredibly efficient. No wonder Mr. Quincy recommended I come to you," Claire Sinclair marveled.
Tristan Tanner shrugged it off. "Catching criminals is my duty. If I’m too slow, they’ll get away, so I have to be quick. Is there anything else, Reporter Sinclair? If not, you can head back."
Claire Sinclair nodded. "When I get back, the first thing I’ll do is write an editorial to advocate for Yvonne Judd and steer the public narrative back on track. After that, I’ll need the police to release the truth. We’ll have to coordinate our efforts to put a stop to the flood of rumors online as quickly as possible."
"I thought you just came to me for an inside scoop. You’re not like other reporters."
"I’m no different. I’m just doing my job. Thank you for your hard work, Officer Tanner."
Tristan Tanner gave a slight nod. "Let me walk you out."
"That’s not necessary, you go on with your work. We can get in touch by phone if anything comes up."
"Alright." But Tristan Tanner still walked her to the door.
Claire Sinclair stopped by Quincy Manor first, intending to show Adrian Quincy a few peculiar photos she had taken that day.
When she got to his office, Adrian Quincy was just finishing a call. She walked right in and handed him the camera.
"Mr. Quincy, these are photos I took at the Collier residence. I’m not sure if they can be used as evidence against them."
Adrian Quincy casually flipped through a few of the photos. "We can’t move on him yet," he said in a low voice. "It would tip them off."
"Huh?" Claire Sinclair didn’t quite understand.
Adrian Quincy said with a meaningful tone, "The Collier Family is just one piece of the puzzle. If we close the net now, we’ll scare off some bigger fish. Let’s just say I have a plan."
"Alright then. I’ll stay out of it and just stick to writing my stories." As she spoke, Claire Sinclair placed his ID badge back on the desk and turned to leave.
Adrian Quincy reached out and caught her arm. "Claire, Hector Collier is extremely vengeful. Be careful."
"Okay." Claire Sinclair wasn’t afraid of retaliation. ’With him around, there’s nothing to fear.’
After leaving Quincy Manor, Claire Sinclair headed back to the Astoria Daily Press.
It was already past quitting time, but a few people were still in the office working overtime, Henry Hartwell among them.
Claire Sinclair opened a document and drafted the title for her editorial: *Yesterday, Were You an Executioner?*
The article began by quoting some of the vile comments circulating online, implicitly indicating it was written in defense of Yvonne Judd. It went on to criticize netizens for jumping to conclusions and spreading misinformation. For the conclusion, she referenced the arrest warrant posted by the Aethelgard Central Police Department’s official account as a warning that justice is inescapable, urging people not to become accomplices to criminals or the invisible executioners who kill with words.
After she finished writing, Claire Sinclair felt a little unsure of herself, so she sent it to Henry Hartwell for his opinion first.
After reading it, Henry Hartwell didn’t say much, just told her to go ahead and post it.
The result was that by that evening, Claire Sinclair’s personal social media account was completely flooded. The traffic was so heavy it even crashed the platform for ten minutes. Netizens organized themselves to attack her, and the insults were relentless.
"So you’re trying to defend a homewrecker?"
"I don’t get it. Why would you defend a homewrecker who destroyed a family? Are you an idiot?"
