Chapter 4: Will You Leave Me, Mister?
The kid gave a quick, polite nod, as if he was craving food for days now. "Yes, mister." The boy’s voice remained soothing.
Kael didn’t show any kind of emotion to him and just simply kept the kid back where he was sitting.
He then grabbed some of the wood that was scattered on the floor after he cut the trees. By using that wood, he made a small bonfire.
"I haven’t tried lighting up a fire since the last thousand years now,"
His mana left through his palm and travelled towards the wood. The wood automatically lit on fire when the mana made contact with it.
He then made his way towards the body of the boar and lifted it. He kept it on the wood’s stem as he lifted his hand lightly.
His mana wrapped around his hand, taking the shape of a crimson aura. He lightly swung his finger a few times, and in the next instant, the boar’s body was sliced into several small pieces.
He grabbed small branches of the tree and plunged them into the small, freshly cut pieces, and kept them next to the flame.
The meat had started to cook as his gaze shifted towards the boy who was sitting there patiently.
The boy’s arms were tucked next to his knees.
’Is this kid scared of something? His behavior is slightly off, I don’t know if it’s my gut or the truth.’
The kid noticed that Kael was looking at him, and he suddenly got flustered. "M-Mister... did I do something wrong?"
Kael didn’t say anything and just kept standing there, eyes remaining fixed on the kid. ’Yes, this kid definitely suffered badly in his past.’ freēwebnovel.com
"No, you didn’t do anything wrong, kid."
The boy chuckled lightly, a bright smile appearing on his lips, one warm enough to melt even ice itself. "Hehe."
A light, gentle smile tugged on Kael’s lips, his gaze shifting towards the meat, which had already been perfectly cooked.
He plucked all the sticks out of the ground and kept them slightly far away from the bonfire.
"Kid, come here and eat." His voice remained stoic, but it carried a slight affection within it.
The boy didn’t waste any time and quickly followed Kael’s command. It was as if he didn’t want to do anything that might make him look bad in Kael’s eyes.
Kael directed one medium-sized piece of meat towards him. "Here, take it." freewёbnoνel.com
The boy grabbed it and stood there adorably.
He opened his mouth and was about to take a bite. But Kael stopped him from doing so.
The boy got flustered, his cheeks had started to turn red, and his eyes became watery.
"You don’t have to rush in, it’s hot." He took a small pause and continued. "You might hurt yourself if you do any kind of hurry, so be careful."
The boy looked up at Kael, as he smiled adorably, but looked slightly shy. "Hehe, mister, I’m sorry."
Kael simply patted the head of the kid lightly. "You don’t have to say sorry again and again; no one’s judging you here."
The boy went silent for a while, his gaze turned towards the ground, but after a while, he finally muttered some words, but weakly. "But mister... if I do wrong, then you’ll leave me alone."
Kael’s eyes, which usually looked cold, had finally turned affectionate. He patted the kid once more and said. "No, I’ll not leave you."
A bright, cheerful smile appeared on the kid’s face. "Thank you, mister."
"Now, eat up."
"You’ve been starving for days, right?"
The kid nodded and began eating. He was eating a bit too fast, and the tenderness of the meat got splashed over his clothes, and his face had almost gotten filled.
"Eat slowly, the food isn’t going anywhere."
Kael grabbed a piece of meat and started eating too. "Hmm, it’s not that good... but it’s better than eating nothing for ages." He muttered under his breath.
They both continued eating for a while, and while they ate, no one talked to each other.
After they finished eating, Kael got back up as he looked around himself for a while. Then his gaze shifted towards the kid, who was already looking at him with an innocent look in his eyes.
’I don’t think that this kid wants to leave my side.’
’It’d be better if I keep him with me, or else he might get into the wrong hands.’
Kael leaned in lightly and picked the kid up in his arms. "What’s your name, kid?"
The boy tilted his head lightly, raised his finger as he kept it under his chin, and acted like he was thinking about something. "Umm, mister... I’m Sylas."
"It’s nice to meet you, mister," Sylas said with a bright smile on his face.
A small smile tugged at Kael’s lips as he patted the head of Sylas. "You’ve a nice name, and it’s nice to meet you too, Sylas."
But again, he looked around himself, and a cluster of thoughts started to rampage inside his mind.
’If I’m living with this kid, I need a house at least.’
’Would this place be suitable for making a house?’
’Hmm, there are trees here, and also a lake, and the city is a few hundred meters away.’
’Yes, it’d be nice to make a house in here, and now I have to start working.’ A small sigh left through his mouth as he took another look across the area.
