Chapter 22: Bribe?

Kael walked towards the priest, gaze remaining fixated on Sylas. He didn’t say anything and just simply directed his hand towards Sylas.

The priest’s eyes shut close with fear, his body kept trembling as he covered his face with his other hand.

He remained in that position for a while until he noticed that the weight of Sylas was no longer in his arms.

His eyes slowly opened, only to find that Sylas was no longer there. His gaze shifted forward toward Kael, who was now holding Sylas gently in his arms. One of his hands rested on the boy’s head, softly patting him in an attempt to comfort him.

Kael looked at Sylas for a few seconds before muttering. "It’s good that he’s sleeping, or else it would have been quite a dire situation for me to handle." freёwebnovel.com

"I can’t exactly have my kid watching me beat people up." A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

His head turned towards the door from where he came, studied it for a while as a thought came to his mind. ’I have rescued Sylas; it’s time to head out now.’

He started walking toward the exit, but before he could even reach it, the priest’s frightened voice rang out behind him. "H-Hey, you can’t just take that."

Kael froze, his head turned towards the priest as he looked down at him for a while. Then, without uttering anything, he started walking towards him.

His usual calm demeanour remained intact, but his voice carried the unusual coldness. "Continue."

"And make sure you choose your answer carefully, because it will determine whether you live or die."

The priest staggered backwards and pushed himself a few feet away from Kael. He looked at Kael, as the memory of that strange hallucination lingered in front of his eyes.

He gulped and continued as he pointed his finger at Sylas. "T-that child is blessed with luck... he’s a ’blessed one’."

Kael’s brows furrowed, gaze turned towards Sylas. ’The Blessed One? I knew this child’s fate was unusual the moment I met him, but I never imagined he was blessed by fortune itself.’

Out of nowhere, a smile tugged on the corner of his lips as he muttered, almost a whisper. "Such a strange child."

His gaze shifted toward the priest once more. The smile vanished from his face as though it had never been there to begin with.

"It will be my decision whether I take him or not. You have no right to meddle in my affairs."

The moment Kael said that, his mana shot out through his body and wrapped itself around him entirely.

The priest’s body started to tremble even more fiercely, his grip tightened onto the beads resting inside his hands. "Oh, great goddess, please protect the holy servant of yours." His voice low.

The priest continued, meeting Kael’s gaze without backing down. "Listen, my child... You cannot take that boy away. The Goddess needs him. To stand in the way of her will is to defy a divine decree."

Without saying anything, Kael closed his eyes for a second. ’He’s talking about that idiotic stuff once again.’

Kael raised his hand, his fingers curling into the position of a flick as crimson mana gathered around them.

"Give me a reason compelling enough to change my mind," he said coldly, directing his hand toward the priest. "Otherwise, you’re wise enough to know what happens next."

The priest raised a bead adorned with the star-shaped symbol of the Goddess. Holding it forward, he gently swung it from side to side. "A compelling reason? What’s more compelling than that of a decree of the goddess itself?" His voice felt hurried.

"You’re wasting your words, and currently you only possess a limited number of them."

The priest suddenly went quiet, sweat rolled down his cheeks, and he dropped onto the floor. He quickly wiped it off his face, eyes widened as he looked completely zoned out.

’What am I supposed to do? This man just killed a seven-star mana knight without breaking a sweat. If I don’t give him an answer he finds satisfactory... he’ll definitely kill me next.’

Then a sudden realisation hit him, and a smile appeared on his face. ’I can bribe this man... there’s no person in this entire world who’ll dare deny the money.’

His gaze trailed Kael from top to bottom, noticing the clothes he was wearing. ’Even the clothes he’s wearing look shabby, and quite worn... the bribe will definitely work.’

He took a step forward and directed one hand towards Kael. "I’ll make the ’black order’ pay you quite a hefty sum of money if you leave that kid behind."

The priest closed his eyes and shrugged a little. "Though you can always have another child. As for you, that amount of money is more than enough to let you live comfortably for the rest of your life."

Kael looked at him for a few seconds, then his eyes shifted towards Sylas. A strange but soothing smile appeared on Kael’s lips.

The priest noticed the faint smile that crossed Kael’s lips; a sense of relief passed over him as he let out a sigh.

He calmly walked towards Kael and wiped the sweat off his face. "You made the right choice, young man."

Then he witnessed a reaction he had never expected. Crimson mana erupted from Kael’s body and spread throughout the room, carrying an overwhelming pressure. The force was so immense that the priest was driven to his knees, unable to remain standing.

The priest’s body began to tremble once again, and his heartbeat reached a threshold that was humanly impossible to surpass. Every muscle inside his body screamed in agony.

"You dislike living?" Kael said.
